I think it's because he is in the live lounge, he can't walk around that much. In these performances they just stand and sing.
In other shows that he performed it even his own concert it's way more energetic.

It's much more energetic in concerts I think. Harry always gives the most when he has a crowd. He covered the song every show during his last tour, so maybe you could check out a performance from there?

If you want to see the energy, you should watch his concert videos. This song was on the setlist of his first tour and this one was one of the most energetic performances of the shows. It's one of my favs to watch it live actually.
Harry was a little sick when this was recorded. He included this song in his set list on his first tour and watching him perform it live in concert is incredible. He also performed it live with Fleetwood Mac at the Music Cares Person of the Year ceremony in 2018 which is on You Tube - check that performance out. Harry loves Fleetwood Mac!

Well it’s in a setting like this I really enjoy his vocals. And his voice suits this song.
He brings out showman Harry on his concerts and the audience brings out the energy. Which is fun to watch but for the vocals I prefer this much calmer setting with no screaming fans. And it was for radio so for listening even if they filmed it.
I'm old enough to remember Fleetwood Mac releasing this, loved the way Harry covered it and he bought a whole new generation to appreciate FM, you should listen to their album Rumours, classed as one of the best albums ever, it is still at number 36 in the UK top 100 albums after 915 weeks, that's staying power. you must remember that Radio1 Live Lounge is as it says Live to the radio, only shows on TH-cam later, a film would use the Studio recorded version, if you listen to FM sing it live it is more like Harry's, I have listened to this loads off times and never got that impression of Harry been zoned out, on the day artists do 2 of their own songs and 1 cover, Harry and 1D have done some brilliant Live Lounge sessions🥰
We are like fine wine getting better with age. Great album. Harry's performances with Stevie Nick's are spectacular. He is so respectful of her and her music. This performance as well as his others are all sensational. Suffi, you should react to Harry's studio performance of Sledgehammer on the Howard Stern show. Howard was amazed at his performance.
You are forgetting, or unaware, this is live radio that also happens to be videoed. The concentration has to be on the sound, not performance. Any breaths or bum notes would be heard across the country. There will always have to be difference in performance when sound is top priority.

guardians of the galaxy vol 1 and 2 were the soul reason i started listening to english songs in the first place more than a year ago.... have come a long way since then, with about 800 english songs in my playlist including songs from harry and fleetwood mac... this was one of the first few songs that i loved
you gotta watch the concert version if you want energy. when he’s in front of a crowd is when you’ll see that energy

I knew all about Fleetwood Mac and this song way before. Harry is really good friends with Stevie and Mick. He's performed with Fleetwood Mac and Stevie a few times, including this song. Both of them have gone to Harry's concerts. Stevie also performed with Harry for both of his album release party/concerts. Harry inducted Stevie (for her 2nd time) into the Rock & Roll Hall of fame and then performed with her after. Stevie and a bunch of her friends came over to Harry's and he played the album for them before it came out. This is the 'Live Lounge" on Radio One. They are live on the radio. There is no audience, it's just the band in the room by themselves. I think they were just trying to have the best sound they could for people listening. Have you ever seen him perform this live? I have, it's a whole other thing and wild.
well, this is BBC. it’s for radio. and it’s their program, Live Lounge. artists that come to the program will perform their songs and maybe 1 or 2 covers. so it was aired live across the UK I think. and this program just happens to be recorded on video so they can put it on youtube for people to see it. you should check other performances from other artists in Live Lounge as well. they’re normally good 😊
p.s One Direction also did it and they even performed it with orchestra 😁

I grew up with Fleetwood Mac so I know the Chain.
I love Fleetwood Mac so I've heard it before & sang it before. I love the tone on Harry's voice
I think the important thing about Harry is he draws his energy from an audience, so he's pretty much always going to be more reserved performing in a studio setting. Also, this performance was broadcast live over the radio and it was the first time he'd performed it publicly, so I think he was probably more nervous about singing well and making a super polished version over having fun with it like he would at a concert

I honestly love this performance ever since the first time I've seen it, but never realized until watching this reaction that his energy is a little chill here. I highly recommend that you watch his live performances like at his concerts performing this! I think you will enjoy it more being you can actually feel the passion he has when he covers these songs :)

So I’ve read where Harry was sick. He suffers from allergies and guess it turns into bronchitis. Back in 1D days it seemed to be worse with their non stop scheduled and always seemed he had stuffed nose sneezing coughing etc. A lot of concert footage it seemed had gum or lozenges in his mouth often and drank hot things at the side of the stage.
That being said, go watch any of his live performances of the song from his first tour!
He is high energy on stage live. I’m hoping he adds it to his set tonight or tomorrow night at the Forum. I think it’s a crowd pleaser. He did medicine the first night. Thinking he is going to throw a new/old song in while in LA

I grew up to this song so both Guardians of the Galaxy and Harry Styles are my heroes for re-intruding it to such wide audiences :)
Harry turns the energy levels for maximum when it's a live concert, he's pretty chilled in real life and aparently - in live sessions. He's a bit shy and almost introverted (which doesn't sits well in my head, I don't think he really is an acutal introvert, might be somewhere in the middle). Most of his acoustic live sessions are like that and I love it tbh. The only online concert he did so far is iHeart jingle ball session in December 2020, he had the same energy there. I think what gets him going is crowd energy, there's that exchange that makes his concerts magical.
But imo this is one of the best performances, you might just have the bad day for reactions I guess, but I still appreciate your dedication!
the chain is his comfort song and this version was just for the sound record so not much energy needed, if u watch the one when he is performing it live then its a whole different story its probably the most energetic and charismatic thing (excluding kiwi obvioulsy)

I actually got to know about this song when Harry covered it during his first solo tour and later in the movie.
I would say that when he performed it on stage during his first tour where it was on his set list he was more into it and had a lot more energy. This was just in the live lounge and it only for the radio so nobody watches it until later when the recorded video is released. Also he can’t really move that much here or make too much unnecessary sounds such as moving or adding extra parts in since it on radio.
I knew this song from before thanks to my dad. He cant move around in a lounge which is why he has so much energy and hype at concerts. U should check out his version of lizzo- juice in a lounge.

i'm a 2003' baby and i was rised listening to the fleetwood mac and i knew a lot of their songs word by word by the time i didnt even knew english (i am polish and our teaching system is not so great) weird is that my parents dont even know what that band is and even dont know who is stevie nicks??? also the fact that not everyone around me was listening to this growing up is sooo weird to me

and I agree he seems more focused on just singing, and doesn't make it as much of a show as his usual performances are, but he still sounds amazing and the song is legendary so I'm enjoying it all the way

But the band The Killers was slated to play the day of this performance except they
were detained in Florida and Harry and his band were called and asked to fill in at the
last minute. I think Harry and his band did a fantastic job.

I think that, according to my Swiss cheese memory, that this is his first “official BBC” performance and was a bit nervous. He wasn’t best chums yet with Stevie and was kinda afraid he f up the song, so he played safe. What do you think?

Of course it's happer, it's Harry :) And I have enough energy from him in this performance tbh, so I don't agree on this one)) However, it's a live lounge session, not a live concert)) there's not much place to run around if you don't want to ruin the set xDDD plus sometimes this bbc radio 1 live lounge thing messes up the sound mixing (not always, but sometimes it sounds a bit bland). The concert versions do have deeper base part if that is what you meant but I like this most of all others, it has something special for me personally.
And also, yes, Harry is a huge Fleetwood Mac and Stevie Nickes fan but the funny thing is, Stevie is Harry's fan too)) She supports him a lot and they had a few live performances together, my faves are Landslide live in Troubadour in 2017 and Stop Dragging my heart around live at Rock-n-Roll all of fame in 2019. Iconic performances imo, you should check it out :)

I’m still playing catch up with all of your content I’ve missed while out of town so of course I’m late seeing this. You’re right, this one doesn’t have the most energy to it and I don’t know if you watch many bbc live lounge performances but you could stick Metallica in bbc ll and they’d just stand there and sing and not move much, etc. That’s something that has just always been that way in the ll. Like, you’d swear they have a policy that says performers must remain calm while in the Live Lounge, lol. When he did this song on his previous tour, it was so bad ass, I mean, “almost” as energetic as Kiwi. I’ll see if I have a good version of it from last tour, if I do, I’ll send it to you or there may be a good one on here, idk, anyway, I’ll find one that’s good quality so you can see just how lit it was live.
