This story is so beautiful. When the boy lost his all hope and filled his pockets with stones, he saw the fish on the rock and threw the fish back into the water. But the fish jumped again to the rock and the boy took the fish and turned back to the home. Basically they saved each other's lives. They loved each other and had good time, until the fish getting bigger and discovered by other people. The fish saw other fishes are killed and scared of that. Then the boy set the fish free in the ocean. But after that, when he sailed, he followed the fish and they got together again. The boy and the fish have a special relationship. They both had hard times and felt lonely but they found each other. And they still have each other.

THIS comment!! I totally agree with all you've written. After some time and ways apart, they finally found each other again. Before they got together again, they were still near each other (in the ocean and maybe in contact in rl) but living on their own

Fun fact, when asked about the fish in an interview (shortly after the release) Harry said that it was "traveling" and on a "gap year" and that they're "taking some time apart". So i'm certain it's actually referencing someone he really appreciates and they didn't separate, they just needed time. At the end of the video I see it as Harry wanting to take some time for himself, to find out what he really wants. But the song gives us a clue of what he actually wants, he loves that person and will do anything to get them back :) so by leaving eroda, he can finally find them on his own terms, now in a good mental place, and start over. At least that's my opinion!

The island of Eroda is a small fishing village called St Abbs in Scotland. Harry is a big old meanie in that way he doesn’t really ever tell us who or what his songs are about. It’s his choice. I take this video as however much you love something or someone, you have to do the right thing by them. In this case, he does what’s best for the fish, he lets it go after doing what he could to keep the fish and a happy medium for both of them to be happy for as long as possible.
I’m pretty sure on the news it showed that there was a new fish species discovered and the fish finally had fish out there like them
Basically they had a huge budget for this video! Haha! Filmed in Scotland, different locations. But essentially Harry created an island called “Eroda” as you saw which I’m sure you know is “Adore” spelled backwards. He’s always had this slightly mysterious, metaphorical sense about him but I think it just makes him that much more interesting and intriguing. You’re going to get so many theories about this video and what it means so I’ll just tell ya to take it however you feel comfortable taking it but your summary of the video was pretty much spot on. I love this video for its depth. The symbols are beautiful: both wanted to commit suicide but they found and saved each other, as he uses in the end, the pain of the past as wind for his sailboat, so many things. It is incredible that it did not win the Grammy for best video.

Love your analysis! It is spot on! The gosh outgrew his environment and had to leave. If you think of this as a band metaphor, Zayn left 1D and Harry had to follow his love, then the 3 left on the island were not happy. But he followed his heart. The GOLD fish is Zayn. Zayn and Harry BOTH have a song named GOLDEN.

The fish, I believe, is Louis. It’s interesting because it seems the video is based on the child’s book called “Louis the Fish.” Harry said in an interview that the fish was on a gap year and that they are taking some time apart and he referred to the fish as a “he”. I think Louis was really upset that the band went on a hiatus and had a falling out with Harry about it, at first there was resentment because Harry was the one who wanted the break. Harry adored Louis, but they grew apart because Louis was uncomfortable with the whole Larry Stylinson thing. Harry, on the other hand wanted to be able to show his love in public but couldn’t. It became too much, and so Harry lost his smile. H also wanted to be able to make decisions about his life on his own and didn’t want to depend on Louis ( both were a Habit for each other btw Listen to Louis’ song by the same name), or anyone else in the band. Watch the Zane Lowe interview with Harry. He was growing up but would always adore Louis and the band. I feel the song is about his ex girlfriend, Camille, BUT the video is about H and his reassurance to Louis that they will one day be together as a band, after they take some time to grow as individual people. Notice at the end that the boy is in the boat following the fish and keeping an eye on him. In the song “She” by Harry, there is a line that says “he takes a boat out , imagines just sailing away…without telling his mates…wouldn’t know what to say.” This is Harry wanting to go off on his own…for whatever reason. It almost sounds like he’s giving up on something he loves and just wants to disappear because he’s so unhappy . It’s quite sad. But thankfully, H got his smile back. Louis, too, in his Walls video made reference to Harry and the band. Thanking someone for what they did to them even though it was bittersweet. I just think the two had a very complicated intense relationship that even they didn’t quite understand . It is a beautiful friendship/love that will always be there no matter what. No one can deny the adoration the two shared together. A mutual respect.

I think this video is a textbook example of Harry saying everything by saying nothing. No fingers pointed, but almost everyone catches the story like you: he had this person in his life, but that person grew too big and had to leave. That made Harry realize that in order to grow he also had to leave and find his own way. It really is as simple as that.
The song is probably the best single piece in Fine Line the album. I'm so happy you did first Lights Up and then this: I feel they are part of the same story, have similar themes, and both are my favourites from Fine Line. I'm really enjoying your reactions!

Harry really out there creating an entire island and scenario for a music video. Anyways I'm still waiting for this to be a movie (if only lol).
The video has such a deep meaning, as you said there are so many ways to interpret it, which is great bc in interviews Harry always says that there's more than one way to interpret songs. That's why he never explains anything about his writing process, he thinks everyone should find their own interpretations of songs. So the same goes for music videos. That's something I really admire about him bc art in general shouldn't be explained or forced on someone.
"Loneliness is an ocean full of travellers trying to find their place in the word" is a quote I kinda wanna write and put in a frame, not gonna lie.
Anyways, it was actually grammy nominated for the 'best music video' category. Sadly he didn't win, but there were a lot of great MVs nominated for that category so anyone deserved to win. And he did win a grammy for Watermelon Sugar anyway, I'm very proud of him and everything he's accomplished.
I love the sound of this song, I'm happy it got the recognition it deserved. Great reaction, as usual :)

loved your interpretation of the symbolism in the mv but I think it didn't allow you to pay enough attention to the lyrics separately. yes there are multiple theories but harry won't ever confirm any one because leaving it mysterious and open to other people opinions is what he likes. the lyrics really focus on a relationship. he is basically saying that the other person doesn't need to do anything or say that they love him. he is so in love with them that he just wants to adore them and he would do anything for them. also the first lyric "walk in your rainbow paradise" just says a lot

Fun fact. Harry and Louis used to live together at a place called Princess Park. Each band member had their own apartment but Harry and Louis wanted to live together, so they shared one . Harry also used to make tacos for Louis. Notice Harry in the Adore You video sharing tacos with the fish. In Louis’ song, “Habit”, there’s a line that he says that relates to H. He sings “different ages, different stages, come so far from Princess Park…I’ll always need you , in front of me, in front of me. You’re the habit that I can’t break.” Wow. Louis knows his fans read into everything, so this is a bold statement. We all know they lived together at Princess Park and that Harry did all the cooking. If you are so bothered by rumours, why offer this up. You know how fans will react. Louis even said while writing that the fans would know which songs were about the band. Louis also just did a show last year where he walks out on stage with a big H on his shirt. I’m sure he must have known how that would come off. If not, the universe is a big Larry.

I just found out about your reactions. But this one.. Maybe I'm the only one that thinks that but I always took the message of this video (along with the lyrics) that 'There are more fish on the sea' 😁 like, he adores it so much that he puts so much effort not thinking about what the fish needs. I think it's very good representation of what adoration can do. You just become blind to other people's needs. And just do it by yourself. And when you get free, you see that there's a lot to love like that. A lot of other fish in the sea.

My comment is only for Larries so if you are not a Larry that's ok and I respect your opinion and I want you to respect mine.
So we all know about the Louis the fish book and a lot of it's similar scenes with this music video. This extended version is about a boy that that is born different from other people and it's bothering him ( and we all know that Harry has openly dated a boy at school and there is pictures available) well that's something different from other people and after he joined the band he couldn't be himself but he found someone just like him different . Our Louis (the fish is also golden by the way;)
They grow up with each other and lived with each other
Harry once told he makes tacos for him and Louis which is in
the music video
He once said about Louis that he is a kind of person that harry only wants to sit and admire.
Also the dancing part is so similar with once that they danced together.
At the end the fish sees other fish that are in the ocean with each other and the ones that are not are getting killed so he gets scared and needs to go among the ones in the ocean so Harry frees him to go and try find his way because he is hurting himself.
And Harry once said about this fish that HE is on a gap year and hope HE will come back safe( you can find that on TH-cam)
And we all know the walls album being about travelling the world trying to move on but not being successful

the way this song was announced is so amusing! he's sooo creative!! he started giving adverts for eroda tourism and people would tweet all weird "peculiar" things about how they went on a ship on an odd numbered day and no one should do that or how they wear one gold earring, and there was no sign that these things were related to harry or in any way to his music. we all connected dots and it was so chaotic because some were like something big is going to happen omg omg whereas other people were like nah y'all are thinking too much. After loads of such chaos, we finally got the teaser for this mv! haha he really loves to see us lose our shit! also eroda, the name of the island, is just adore backwards!

Harry said in an interview, that the fish is a HE and that they (Harry and the Fish) don´t see each other for a long time because the fish is going on a journey.
(It might be interesting, that this music video is based on a childrens book called "Louis - The Fish". A couple of scenes in the music video are exact copies from the book. That´s why a lot of people think the fish represents Louis Tomlinson and by journey, Harry ment, Louis was going on tour, which, by the time the interview was made, was true.)

I think the news on the tv showed that more fish of that fish’s specie are now in the ocean, so the fish wasn’t alone anymore.
So it’s like both were lonely and at a dark place at the same time, they helped each other and became close, but then it was time to grow and find your own people.

He said that people in Eroda go by middle names and that the fishes name is William. Most of us have an idea as to who the fish is as we know someone in his life with the middle name William.
As far as I know, Harry only spoke about fish once during an interview. "The fish is traveling right now. He's on a gap year. And he hopefully come back safe. We're taking a little time apart." Let me share my thoughts on this mv...basically i am not forcing anyone to belive in my theory ...its just mine...you can either skip it or just read.
So basically i was directioner for almost 11 years now,being in this fandom was the best choice i ever made in my whole life and i will be until last breath.so coming to adore you music.Yes i am a larrie(antis its your time to skip this comment).so as this video starts its explaingning being a light coming always when harry smiles,he want to mask that and slowly he forget to smile,but at that time he met a fish which was going through almost same journey,he began to take care off it ,spend time with it and he got his smile back..when fish was growing up he started to give his own space,but never let to leave its side.even people look with shock,he doesnt cared about it..but when he known that,it cant be stuck in a box and should be free to ocean..he leaves it..but after that people make him so close,they started to respect him without avoiding.but eventually he also sails to sea..so this is the mv idea

ERODA is like 1D , and the fish you all know (it could also refer to all the members tho not just one as , they had each other going through the same struggle but had to part ways eventually like the fish) - , so after they had to part ways , Harry had to leave Eroda aka 1D and take some time off to discover who he is?! and as he said in the interview that the fish is "travelling" and "on a gap" "taking some time apart" , he went to travel himself aka "Hiatus" - but one day he will come back to the Island of Eroda aka 1D and meet the fish back !!!!!
