      Yes the cars changed a lot over the years with various little bits and bobs it’s not until when they are in bits that you notice it all. The colour is lovely I really is.

    A good bit of work ahead of you, but you’re up to it mate. I actually got off my arse and did a bit myself. Welded the boot floor in today, after your great instruction and some tips from fitzees fabrication, it went really well. Upped the wire feed and made so much difference to the weld quality too. Thanks and keep up the great work.

      Hey that’s good that you got out there and got some more work done on the little thing little bits at a time and you will soon get there for sure.

    I've been restoring a clubman for a few months now and have yet to form any sort of attachment to it, but your comment at 6:40 "That this little car really deserves some love" has made me see it in a new light. Cheers

    I love the fact you go after minis that need help! It’s definitely inspiring to me and it seems a little less daunting to do the same but as a “longer term project” can’t wait to see the transformation and seeing another mini back on the road!

    Wasn't really a fan of the Sportspack look, IMO it was a step too far on the arches and alloys thing. Having said that though I'm looking forward to seeing this being done and how much of the front end is left before you start the rebuilding process. Happy birthday for tomorrow youngster, have a great day mate.

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes for me I am on fence with the later cars as you can tell from my personal cars I like the older look of a mini and the retro styling etc but this will be interesting and definitely something different. The later look was very Rover for sure. Thanks I don’t feel young anymore 😂

    • @graemew7001
      @graemew7001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimpsonsClassics Na 30 is still very young, especially when you're looking back as a 50 year old 😂. My Mini focus tend to stop at anything with bigger than 12" wheels, tbh if the 7.5 inch brake set up performs well then I'm more inclined to the 10's. Anyway mate I'm not spoiling your birthday, I'm off scouring the internet for R50/R53 Mini's as I finally landed a job this week with the NHS so hopefully I can stop dreaming about Mini ownership when I get my start date 😂.

    You think that steel is thin, try a 1970’s one. I had a 4 year old mini in the seventies that was falling apart including the bonnet brace cross member that remain fastened down but the bonnet flew up at 70 mph.

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have always had good luck with those or year of mini. But it definitely varies on the year of mini for sure

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! I just recently got a 1996 Rover Minifair in British racing green. Its a beautiful car with virtually no rust at all as it was in a garage the past 15 years. The car was crashed a long time ago and the last owner replaced the front end with a carbon fibre bonnet and fibreglass wings and front panel. The thing I don't like is the rally style clips that show on the outside of the bonnet to hold it down. I want an original bonnet for it but the thing is I'll have to completely replace the front end because there is nothing to latch the new bonnet onto. I'd love your opinion on this and do you think its worth all the hassle ? Can you still get original wings, Bonnet etc... or are they spurious ? Thanks, Adrian

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like you have a rare rust free mini which is definitely a good thing, as for the front of your car you can fit a standard bonnet with the fibre glass wings etc just as long as you have the brackets for the bonnet hinges on the bulkhead of the car still. If not there is loads of other options of securing your bonnet down, with other clips etc. Hope this helps if not you can go with a whole new metal front end welded on etc and have a factory look.

    • @adriano8729
      @adriano8729 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SimpsonsClassics Thanks very much for your reply. I don't have bonnet hinges either, I'd imagine I could buy some but the thing that concerns me is there's only a fibreglass strip across the front panel I suppose realistically it needs a metal frame to latch down onto. Glad I found your channel really enjoying it!

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice set of minilites. Is the spare (if there is one) a minilite as well?

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No the spare is a standard steel the 13” wheels don’t fit in the wheel well of the car due to the fuel tank being bigger.

    • @Veni_Vidi_Vortice
      @Veni_Vidi_Vortice 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimpsonsClassics Yeah, I didn't think they would be able to fit one of those big beasts into the limited boot space available. Lovely wheels though.
