I just imagined how hillarious it would be to play a set of anime openings on piano at some super formal event. It's good music so you'll get an applause, but they'll never know... (especially if you slow it down)
As a pianist I disagree. I appreciate this music and anime piano pieces but technically they are very different than music played at formal events. Those with an ear for it would likely be able to realize the difference. But it would be cool to hear this piece at an event though

If anything would allow the audience to notice something 'off' about it, it would be the melodic patterns and rhythms that set jpop aside from western pop (I believe this is due to language, but that is an extensive topic). Even still, you'd have to play the music in a way that matches the original song, and creative freedom - especially in events - is something that is very often taken advantage of. It simply isn't likely to happen, unless the formal events you're speaking of are for classical, jazz, romantic etc. specifically. If someone hired you to play, say, for a wedding event, unless they had a specific song request, you could very easily perform quite a few 'anime songs', albeit with a some creative freedom, to match the atmosphere, without anyone noticing.
