This concept was something I discovered after many years of extracting teeth. There were times where I found my elevator to be more effective than others and once I caught on to why it was, it's been a game-changer! I hope this helps you out too.
A couple points to consider:
1. Never be afraid to use forceps. Elevating teeth out looks cool, but it's not necessary in most cases when you can apply a forcep.
2. Always be careful of the adjacent tooth so you're not placing stress on it or luxating it as well.
3. Start on the mesiobuccal to get the tooth moving, then slowly advance deeper on the root and more lingual along the mesial surface.
4. Over time you'll start to develop a feel for when you're in the right spot. Once you are, you can lever the tooth up and out of the socket by using the bone as a fulcrum.
