    Hi! I think this was a great tutorial! Thank you! I do have a question I have a smaller canvas but it doesn’t have that panel in the middle. I already made one and all my resin went to the middle, it doesn’t look bad but I want to do better on my next one. How would I prevent the sagging without that panel in the middle?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Silvia. Glad you like the video.
      I know people that pour resin inside the back of the canvas. Personally, resin is too expensive to do this every time I want to work on a large canvas. The other part of that when pouring resin it warms up the resin on the back and the potential for the canvas to sag is still there.

    What if I want to only put one coat of resin on my canvas, do I still need to put that board in the back to keep it from boeing in the center????

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I recommend supporting the canvas whenever possible. The slightest indication of the canvas being “loose” will case pooling and will result in the edges of the canvas without a good round over of resin which is disappointing to have happen.

    Hodid you treat the sides of the canvas...did you just let the epoxy drip over? Thank you! Great video...

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Maggie. Since I had spray painted the sides of the canvas I did allow the resin to flow over the edges. That is why I use the painters tape on the back or underside edge helps to make for a easy clean up of the drips and I demonstrate that in a bunch of my other videos.
      Glad you liked the video 😁

  • @rharari29

    your videos are GREAT!! You mentioned you once applied a thin coat of resin on canvas and you got a reaction on the second coat ; what exactly happened? would that happen if you sanded it before 2nd coat? Also I've seen some artists put a thin coat on the back of the canvas first ; have you tried that? Thank you for the great tutorials, I watched thousands of videos, all good but yours are the best!

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Regina. The reaction I spoke of when applying a second coat was that I had remove my support panel after first layer and poured second layer without support panel in place. In that case while working the second layer and applying heat to create effects it warmed everything up and so the middle of the canvas began to sag 😢allowing the resin to run and pool in the low spot. This would happen if resin was used on the back of the canvas also. For me, having a reusable panel is much more cost effective then using my precious resin supply 😁
      Thank you very much for your kind words and support. It is truly appreciated 💜

    Hi there. How would you do that on an all canvas. Like let's say a 8x10 canvas? I have seen other people put cardboard boxes. The problem with me is making the epoxy even. Do I have to put little cups under the four corners of the frame or do I put them under the corners but it's touching the cardboard box? If that makes sense.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a limit to the weight that the canvas can safely support. The largest I have done is 30" x 48". I recommend artist panel for very large projects because the wood will not flex like canvas.

      I do not know the final size of cut luan. It must fit in between the frame work. I have put it under a poured canvas that sagged in the center so that I could pour a second layer and not have it sag but I remember it was a challenge.

      Hi Belinda👋🏻 My go to resins are The Epoxy Resin Store's "Clear Epoxy Resin" is a great general use resin and at a price that is easy on the pocketbook. For a high viscosity resin and heat resistant resin (for on my coasters or tabletops) I use Counter Culture DIY "Original Artist Resin". Both brands have provided me with discounts to pass on to my viewers so look for those in the details of the videos. 😁

On Michaels Level 3 gallery wrapped canvas the frame holding the fabric measures 1 3/8". Multiply that by 2 = 2 6/8". Now add 1/8" of inch to allow for clearance to get the board inside the back for a total of 2 7/8" to subtract from the canvas size of 30x 30". For the inside support? What size wood backing board would you need for a 36x48 canvas?

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will need to measure your canvas as brands can vary. I have support panels for 36"x48" but because of structure of canvas frame on the back I made it out of 2 pieces of thin plywood and then support the center of those 2. It works.

    • @BeckiCooper
      @BeckiCooper 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be done. Try using supports under canvas frame (in my videos I show that I use recycled yogurt cups with tape "donuts" like feet), then go about using supports under the wood and level them out with paint sticks. If you start seeing the wood panel edges pushing up on the top side of your canvas you went to far. Hope that makes sense.

      Resin is expensive. Reusing a board is a better option for that reason. Also, resin will warm and become soft allowing it to pool and bend on a canvas.

  • @leelastoma5809
    @leelastoma5809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not leave wood sheet permanently ? Resin could crack even after cured as Canvas sags even more over time.

    • @MoonkusserArt
      @MoonkusserArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wood adds weight. Canvas is fused to the resin and once hanging on the wall gravity is not pushing on the center that would create the sag when pouring.
