    I used to sail from langkawi to koh lipe in the late 80s early 90s and it was an amazing place. There were a few bungalows on the north east beach and not even a bar or restaurant to speak of, it was paradise. The locals were so friendly and the fishermen built long tail boats on the beach without a power tool in site. One of the best places I have ever visited. Boy it looks like it’s changed a lot since I lived out there, still I can’t wait to go back next year to check out all the changes

      Sounds so interesting and different. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful memory. The island is still an underwater paradise, but not sure you will like the rest of the tourist development.

      Thanks, Marieta! People tend to share only the great aspects of a place. Koh Lipe is really beautiful, but there were some negatives as well. I did not feel it would be authentic not to mention them.

      @brothersman524 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@KrisWustrow Hi Kris
      I actually stayed in Koh Phi Phi for 3 nights, then went from there to Koh Lanta but only stayed for 1 night although I did have a chance to see a few beaches. From there, I went to Koh Lipe and stayed 3 nights there stopping at Koh Kradan, Koh Ngai and Koh Muk - the speedboat ride from Koh Lanta to Koh Lipe was quite bumpy but I would choose Koh Lipe over Koh Lanta even though Koh Lanta is nice. Koh Lipe does live up to its name as being the Maldives of Thailand

    The best place to stay is Pooh Bar and Resort. It's on the walking street and was the first bar here in the 90s. It's amongst old trees and very relaxing, and quiet. You can't hear any boats, dogs, cats, or roosters! Deluxe room is only 2200 with breakfast. Pooh and Soi are lovely people and really give the local touch. And it's super-handy to both beaches, the 7-eleven, the walking street. Sunrise beach is a 5 minute walk away

    Update may 2024. I saw a few dogs but no packs and no barking. There was very little trash on the beach when i hot there, but a few days ago the tides changed because we are going into the wet season and it was awful. It all happened between my morning walk and about 1 or 2 in afternoon
    I highly recommend this island. It is one of my favorites for diving and snorkeling. Most beautiful water i have seen anywhere in Thailand do far 0:08

      @@reefwiz99 It's a fair question.. We read rumors online as well and were a bit apprehensive.
      From my experience, I found the island extremely friendly and welcoming. People went above and beyond to help us out. We had issues with our filming equipment and the community pulled together to assist us. I felt safe and silly for being afraid of this island. There are currently no tourists on Коh Тао and no big parties. The island is quiet. We only snorkeled, but the quality of the water is exceptional. I see why this is a great diving location. @ Travel Stories editor -- So, I'll be at Koh Phi Phi in November; after that I'll have 3 nights to ferry to either: (a) Koh Lipe, or (b) Koh Lanta, or (c) Koh Ngai. Which do you think?

    • @TravelRoads
      @TravelRoads  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kris!
      There are no direct ferries right now running between the islands (covid + no tourists), so commuting might take longer than you expect or you might have to hire a private longtail boat (expensive). Koh Lanta is the easiest transfer from Koh PhiPhi and makes the most sense for 3 nights. If you like snorkeling/diving, take a day trip to Koh Ha or Koh Rock (they have 2-3 departures a week from Koh Lanta- it's worth it! The water visibility is incredible).
      Koh Lipe is more exotic than Koh Lanta, but it's going to take you a full day of travel to get there and a full day to get out, so not worth it.
      Koh Ngai is very small. If the weather is bad, there will be nothing for you to do (+ it's expensive and difficult to get to).
      Koh Lanta is a big island and you will have plenty to discover for 3 nights. The island has many beaches to choose from.
      I hope this helps. ❤

    I've lived in Thailand 15 years. Granted, I'm more sensitive than most to barking dogs...but this is one of things that ruins many places for me. Dogs that aren't owned by anyone, but who are fed scraps by whoever. Many revert to their wolf nature (their dna is 99.9% wolf, after all), howling at night, vying for dominance in their packs.... I've heard some say they are not a problem there, but just seeing, and hearing, that one on the walking street makes me think Lipe is not for me. Plus, I'm just tired of 'Thailand for tourists,' which it looks like this definitely has become. Too bad.

    • @TravelRoads
      @TravelRoads  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a lot of dogs on Koh Lipe and they move around in packs. Most of them are pretty big and love barking at farangs. This has happened to us on other islands as well. It's just that Koh Lipe is very small- and the dogs are everywhere. If you're sensitive to barking dogs, I would recommend Koh Kradan- great water visibility, zero dogs. :D
