Gujarat was lucky that it was situated between mumbai and Karachi, two major port cities. There were lots of kutchi Gujarati people used to go to Karachi for businesses as it’s very near to the kutch area. By the way current gujarat and mumbai was part of the Bombay presidency that time. And Mohammad Ali Jinnah was also Gujarati.😀 and Jinnah ‘s grand father was Gujarati Hindu. Jinnah was the first generation of Muslim converts.
Karachi is still home to many Gujaratis who migrated after partition to Pakistan. Most big businesses and banks in karachi were set up by Gujarati Muslims post partition. They are around 1-2 million people from Gujarat living in karachi . Before independence too gujaratis were here and the term “Jai Jai garvi Gujarat” was coined in Karachi over 100 years back

They ruined the beauty of this beautiful 🤩 place. People used to complain for the tanga wheels lantern smoke of burning 🔥 oil. Where are those people where is that love for our city. Karachi
Pre partition Karachi was a very small town. After partition the migrants had to be settled. Population rise to millions. A young country with barely any infrastructure, karachi had to cater. Sadly if you compare karachi to lahore you’ll be shocked. Same amount of years but lahore and most other cities did incredibly well. Sadly Sindh inherited the Bhuttos and since then they made sure Sindh did not improve. It was the typical wadera mentality. These big landlords did not want modernisation so they could keep people poor hungry and too weak to protest. Karachi is also home to millions of Muslims who migrated from middle India. Clash of power and space followed for decades. The present IK government was not elected in sindh so do not have the jurisdiction. But that will soon change in the next decade as hopefully the stronghold of the the present sindh government loosens as their head Zardari ages. Already one can see massive weakening due to social media.
Pakistan was indeed ahead of India in many aspects and not just cricket :) An obsession went horrible and continues to haunt! This obsession took away all that Good that was built in the country for good. But yes there needs to be a purpose for some groups to rule. If there is no purpose then those groups lose importance ( True on both sides India and Pakistan) Hope the newer generation comes forward and gives more purpose to the actual nation building, employment, literacy and being self reliant. No unfortunately the shitty ppp sindh gov destroyed it and there isnt any inter city railway system aswell,the KCR(karachi circular railways) was operational until 1999.karachi doesnt even have a proper bus service, though there are 1950s buses which travel from place to place and is very cheap but the buses are soo worn out. Karachi is and has always been the backbone of pakistan, but it has always been neglected unfortunately,lahore,islamabad,rawalpindi,peshawer, all these cities also have their own proper bus metro dystems but karachi, the business capital city of pakistan doesnt hve it,all the provinces have health cards for their people but sindh,the province in which karachi is situated doesnt have, we karachites still love our motherly nation Pakistan, but unfortunately we always get neglected as sindh gov is made by ppp which is a very corrupt party, ppp never wins seats in karachi but wins seats from interipr sindh due to which they get control of karachi and have destroyed my beloved city karachi.Even after all these karachi is still pne of the richest and largest cities in asia,imagine if some development wouldve been taken place,karachi couldve been the Paris of pakistan
@@kid_assassinyt9 Trams cannot be run in a city like Karachi which has such huge traffic.In Mumbai too trams were discontinued in 1967 due to traffic .The width of the roads hasn't increased for more than 100 years PPP government was right in discontinuing trams.Trams do run in Calcutta but with huge traffic mess.

It is still multicultural and multi-ethnic with no ethnicity with a clear majority. It start going downhill when the capital was moved to Islamabad and Karachi handed over to Sindh. The political party in the provincial govt had no political leverage in the city so it used the city just as a cash cow, with pure negligence in infrastructure and draconian quota laws. The rise of violent MQM, militancy and what not was a boiling lava that burst due to that negligence. Overpopulation population with unregulated migrations from all over Pakistan and Afghanistan also fucked the city up. It can still do better if it's separated from Sindh

Metropole was an amazing hotel. Decades we enjoyed going there. Across it the Service club. Walsh it was a beautiful. Columbus hotel was also fun. Used to go the Beach Luxery . One of my neighbours is from that city. His name is Ahmed Musa. Musa doesn't sound as he says but it sounds mew-sa. I tried to help him to spell it again as Moosa. He dismissed it immediately, saying he never heard of this kind of spelling. These immigrants don't understand how painful it's for us & they never understand what is anglicisation. I'm just surprised to see it here 02:05 - a shop with this name & it's in 1964! People of that time still knew how to anglicise their names but now it's all gone. No offence, we hardly can pronounce their names. It's torture for us. Those names are all in Spanish, not in English. BTW, I'm more than amazed to see all those old moments & thanking you a very big one. I'm hungry for those old pictures & always think if I could go back to those old days & capture moments! Before partition picture makes my heart break. Time when all communities lived together and contributed to progress of each others.Some of them resembles old Bombay and no wonder Karachi and Bombay were called sister cities. People used to use ships to travel between these 2 cities and many of them would have born in one of these cities and died in the other. Politicians on both sides with pea sized brains destroyed it for rest of them.

The change began with prohibition introduced by Bhutto in 1977. Then Gen. Zia ruled 11 years. Ethnicity, Sectarianism and law and order problems began. Pre partition Karachi was a very small town. After partition the migrants had to be settled. Population rise to millions. A young country with barely any infrastructure, karachi had to cater. Sadly if you compare karachi to lahore you’ll be shocked. Same amount of years but lahore and most other cities did incredibly well. Sadly Sindh inherited the Bhuttos and since then they made sure Sindh did not improve. It was the typical wadera mentality. These big landlords did not want modernisation so they could keep people poor hungry and too weak to protest. Karachi is also home to millions of Muslims who migrated from middle India. Clash of power and space followed for decades. The present IK government was not elected in sindh so do not have the jurisdiction. But that will soon change in the next decade as hopefully the stronghold of the the present sindh government loosens as their head Zardari ages. Already one can see massive weakening due to social media.

No unfortunately the shitty ppp sindh gov destroyed it and there isnt any inter city railway system aswell,the KCR(karachi circular railways) was operational until 1999.karachi doesnt even have a proper bus service, though there are 1950s buses which travel from place to place and is very cheap but the buses are soo worn out.

@@kid_assassinyt9 Trams cannot be run in a city like Karachi which has such huge traffic.In Mumbai too trams were discontinued in 1967 due to traffic .The width of the roads hasn't increased for more than 100 years PPP government was right in discontinuing trams.Trams do run in Calcutta but with huge traffic mess.

Karachi was once bubbling city along with Bombay in good old times. But Karachi had lost its multi cultural and multi ethnicity way back.
It is still multicultural and multi-ethnic with no ethnicity with a clear majority. It start going downhill when the capital was moved to Islamabad and Karachi handed over to Sindh. The political party in the provincial govt had no political leverage in the city so it used the city just as a cash cow, with pure negligence in infrastructure and draconian quota laws. The rise of violent MQM, militancy and what not was a boiling lava that burst due to that negligence.
Overpopulation population with unregulated migrations from all over Pakistan and Afghanistan also fucked the city up. It can still do better if it's separated from Sindh

Metropole was an amazing hotel. Decades we enjoyed going there. Across it the Service club. Walsh it was a beautiful. Columbus hotel was also fun. Used to go the Beach Luxery . One of my neighbours is from that city. His name is Ahmed Musa. Musa doesn't sound as he says but it sounds mew-sa. I tried to help him to spell it again as Moosa. He dismissed it immediately, saying he never heard of this kind of spelling. These immigrants don't understand how painful it's for us & they never understand what is anglicisation. I'm just surprised to see it here 02:05 - a shop with this name & it's in 1964! People of that time still knew how to anglicise their names but now it's all gone. No offence, we hardly can pronounce their names. It's torture for us. Those names are all in Spanish, not in English. BTW, I'm more than amazed to see all those old moments & thanking you a very big one. I'm hungry for those old pictures & always think if I could go back to those old days & capture moments! Before partition picture makes my heart break. Time when all communities lived together and contributed to progress of each others.Some of them resembles old Bombay and no wonder Karachi and Bombay were called sister cities. People used to use ships to travel between these 2 cities and many of them would have born in one of these cities and died in the other. Politicians on both sides with pea sized brains destroyed it for rest of them.

The pictures cover Karachi from 1930 to early 1970. At partition in 1947, Karachi, capital of Sindh, became capital of Pakistan. There was visa free travel between India and Pakistan and many travelled by sea between Bombay and Karachi on a popular ship, was the Saraswati.
Karachi was well cared for till General Ayub shifted the capital to Islamabad in 1960.
Many of the iconic buildings, hotels, institutions were built by the Parsi community who still live here and continue to use two fire temples here. Karachi is dotted with many hindu temples and Churches still used for worship. In the 1960s and early 1970s Karachi was a swinging city. The change began with prohibition introduced by Bhutto in 1977. Then Gen. Zia ruled 11 years. Ethnicity, Sectarianism and law and order problems began. Hopefully, Karachi will regain some of its past dynamism in years to come. 6.35pm.
