Melancholic and yet brought back some wonderful memories. I grew up in Pakistan and spent 1973-1983 in Karachi. It was a vibrant city. I have lived in the U.S since 1983 and I went back after an almost 30 year hiatus and was shocked to see what has happened to that country! I felt like a foreigner who could understand and speak the language yet did not really belong in that milieu. "Arabization" has taken a serious toll of Pakistan, sadly.

Might want to compare the population difference of the country between the time you lived there and what it is now. Overpopulation has ruined Pakistan.

@@نادرالیراحمان Yes you are absolutely correct. Overpopulation has indeed been the ruin of the country. A country slightly bigger than the state of Texas has 220 million and the whole of the US has about 350 million people.

@@pipipupu5104 there is unnecessary terrorism that Pakistan has got involved into, that is why our image is tarnished in the world, otherwise there is nothing exceptionally strict in Pakistani law. The law is same as back then. We even still do not follow Sharia law, which is bad because this country came into existence on foundation of Islam.

Hi, Bombay of India was also on the same lines like Karachi. This city was admired by Jawaharlal Nehru. Inspite of Delhi becoming the capital Bombay grew whereas Karachi has degraded.

May be only ten to 20 percent of Karachites now have roots from 60/70s. Rest of the population are new comers and have no sense of owning or belonging to Karach. These pictures are more like a European city touch. Having traveled to half of the world and growing in Karachi in Mir Taqi mir’s word “ Karachi which was a chosen city of the world “It was a magnet for talent from all over subcontinent and beyond. From 50s to 80s there developed a unique talented community which excelled in every field. Karachi could have developed much more than Dubai if it was allowed. Karachi was intentionally destroyed by Federal government/ Punjab and turned into worlds biggest “Goth” slums of the world by Pakistan people’s party. They didn’t realize then by destroying Karachi they destroyed Pakistan.!!!

I was born in Lahore end of 1946, lived in Karachi since 1947 except for stints abroad about 10 years. The 1950s, 60s and early 70s were great. Karachi was a multi cultural city of many religious faith. We all lived, mixed and celebrated together. I grew up visiting many places in this film. Its not Arabisation. From just after mid 1970s, Karachi suffered ethnic and sectarian strife and gun culture. The population explosion and large amounts of money made from various ventures led to the property boom. Beautiful carved gizri stone buildings were demolished and replaced with cement eyesore. Corruption everywhere. No sense of history, tradition, heritage. It's a scrambled egg. Small world, @Ranjittyagi9354. Admiral Choudri was married to my Dad's first cousin Rafia.

During the 23 years when East Pakistan (Bangladesh) was part of Pakistan, 70% of the budget money was allocated towards the development of West Pakistan, which had only 45% of the total Pakistani population.
The West Pakistani politicians would famously say that the development and defense of East Pakistan lie in West Pakistan. So, yes, the growth and economic development of West Pakistan (Pakistan) was at the expense of East Pakistan (Bangladesh). In fact, when East Pakistan was separated from West Pakistan, the average West Pakistanis were 72% richer than the average East Pakistanis (Bangladeshis).
Moreover, during the war, the West Pakistanis not only destroyed most of Bangladesh and committed genocide, mass rape, and killed the brightest sons of Bangladesh, but they also took all the assets, including embassies, military hardware, forex reserves, and more.
When you hear from Pakistani politicians about how great Pakistan's economy was during the 1960s, they don't tell you about the economic exploitation that took place in East Pakistan to fuel their economic growth.
Now, in 2023, Pakistan doesn't have a country to exploit anymore or anybody to provide them with any more free money. So, you see them going around the world with their begging bowls.

karachi ko systematically barbad kiya gaya. iska infrastructure tabah kiya gaya. karachi mei bahar se log kam kernay aye wo normal hai log gaon se shehar rozi kamanay atay hain magar shehar ki planning hi nahi ki gayi low cost housing banayo jati. kiya kerna hai kahan kaisay. behangam tareeqay se sheher ko phelnay diya gaya. civic idaray rushwat ki waja se tabah huay. tax ka kuch paisa hi sheher ki taraqqi pe laga detay. sab ne apni jeben bharin aur sheher ko lawaris chor diya gaya. churyan to dana chug ke ur jayen gi yahan bhoosa hi bachay ga. inna lillahi wa inna ilehi rajeoon.
