I bought this scooter new in 1961 from Sears in my home town when I was 16 years of age. I put 4,000 miles on it and had many fun times with it. I later on traded it for a used VW beetle which turned out to be nothing but trouble. I should have kept the scooter. Its a keeper if you are fortunate to find one.
I had one of these when I was 12 YO, in 1972. Rode it off-road (of course). The handle bar shift required two-hand operation. I ran great until the engine locked up and that was it. I loved that thing.
I rescued a 1962 Allstate Compact that had been sitting in an old garage for quite a while. It came with a box full of parts and the illusive engine shroud, flywheel shroud, carburetor, and carburetor boot are all there. The model number is almost identical to the one in your 810.94 380. I got a title with it that has a VIN that matches the engine case. I also have the hard to find headlight shroud you mention. It's got that same 60 mph speedo, showing 5,290 miles on it. It's actually got some pretty cool patina. Looks like it made it's way through quite a few states too, with old decals from Indiana, Kansas, Illinois, West Virginia still showing on the left side of the body. I can turn the engine by hand and it sounds like it has compression. How good that is, I couldn't tell you. The kick starter seems to engage whenever it wants to. I'm going to sell it as a lot, or in pieces. I can send some pictures, if there's any interest here. Feel free to message me.
It's a Puch DS60. My parents got a used '61 model for us 2 kids in '68. I had it on the road in 1970 through '77, and again in 2009 through to the present.
The fan-intake is upside down.. - see the curve down on the left side.!! - it is suppose to face against kick-start shaft... and when it rains, the water will piss inn on the ignition
We had one, Dad got this from Sears brand new about 1968 or 69. Always had trouble with those cables breaking and the twist shifter and hand brake and gas cables. Always at the Sears store ordering parts. I would drive this to school when I could. I wish he had brought a Honda, better made bikes.
This was my first motorized vehicle. I passed it on to younger brothers where it lived on to have its fenders chopped, the muffler removed (racy sound, right?), etc. I wish I still had it. We called our collection of Sears motorcycles "Pooks," except when they broke down, then we called them "Pukes." Those were the days.
Altough here in the Netherlands, we have all sorts of Puch models, i have never seen this one before. There are some parts that are familiar, like the tank and the engine. These parts are also used on the Puch M50. The Puch M50 were and still are very popular here in Holland, TH-cam is full of maintenance tips. The Dutch version has only 49.9 cc, if you go above 49,9 cc it's a motorcycle by law and you have to have a license to drive it.
I remember dreaming of these before I was old enough to have a license. I spent lots of time riding my Western Flyer bicycle but I dreamed of things like this Puch. I would tear the pages out of the previous year Sears catalog and save them like I would save brochures of scooter and motorcycle. When I was finally old enough to get my license at age 16 in 1967, I bought a new Honda S65 with money that I made from delivering newspapers. Great memories.
such a cool little scooter! that thing is AWESOME! would love to have one to put in the back of my allstate single wheel trailer that I pull with my VW! Dug out of the TRASH! dude that is so awesome!
Quite some things are missing it's a Puch DS50 with a seat for one person (usually they are 2 seaters) and in colors that i have only seen on the Allstate Mopeds but never here in Austria. Maybe it's from 1967 because of the kickstarter. The kickstarters always changed over a period of time.
Haha, beautiful! I have the headlight surround as well as the tail light and more. My bike is missing the engine and one shock is broken but Maybe be I can fix it... I’m looking at modding/converting it into an ebike since I have several of these but a hybrid is my optimal goal, and 33-49cc engine. Should be done by spring 2021 since I just bought the bike for $300 Canadian with 4hp motor & clutch. Thanks for the showing, looking forward to more!
As a little kid I remember seeing these in the Sears Allstate section in the 1950's. They had a hard time keeping boys like me from climbing on them and pretending to speed down the road, ha ha.
Ok, we got a coil on ebay and it runs well. now I need an exhaust system and a kick started return spring. Any Ideas where to look for this stuff? thanks John
I found a used factory muffler with the dual tips on E bay for mine. If you already have the headpipe it would be real easy just to make some slip on muffler thing work. I may have an extra kick start return spring. I will need to look. If I dont' I bet you could find one of those too, something universal
I used to drool over those back in the day , it was just way to much money for me with my paper route income . Growing up poor may build character and a sense of value , but you have to go without to pay for it . TheReaper!
I have never heard of nor seen one of these cuties before. Sears and Puch... an unlikely mating to my way of thinking, but there you go! I like 'Pooch' for it's nickname! LOL
There's one for sale in Spokane, WA Craigslist.com under motorcycles, it's complete, needs new rubber stuff been in storage for 45 years. Runs according to add.
hello everybody , i am looking for a Quacker it's some sort of horn there is a small youtube film of an Allstate 60 cc red puch MC 60 or the Sears Cheyenne where it is placed on the handlebar , please let me know if anyone can get me one . greetings from the Netherlands
I got the scooter running, and my buddy does not want it. He wants a newer more reliable moped or scooter that he can use with his motor home. Is anyone looking to trade for a newer model? This one is mostly complete. missing exhaust, needs some cables and work to make it ride-able. it starts and drives down the road, I don't know how the gears work so we did not shift. He is looking to sell or trade for a reliable moped if anyone is interested
The friend I have been working on this for has decided that it is not what he is looking for. He wants a moped he can use around campsites from his motor home. If anyone is interested in trading this for a later model moped, he will field offers. I did get it running and it drove down the road. I did not shift it, because I wasn;t sure how, and the cable is sketchy. It seem to be very complete, except for the mufler. You can contact me a jonaq@aol.com

I'm sure these ones were ridden hard off road too

R C Nelson Surprisingly not many exist any more , likely being used up and ending up like yours. That's the way things go

I think that it was special made for the U.S.
Called I think the DS 50 and 60 in Europe.

Great. I'm into Vespas, but like any scooters. Thanks for the vid.

Sounds like it came from a long line of chain saws .... Fun machines !

Can any of you 1961 Puch owners tell me the exact size of those tires?
Thanks
3-12
PS. Can you tell me exactly what size tire and a link would be awesome!
I just got one running today. It's complete and came with the service manual. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have the front fender and light casing
I can help with parts. Let me know what you need and I will see if it's in the box. Just listed for sale an as-new example of this scooter.
Those engines have needle bearing Transmissions very tough I'm sure you will get 3rd gear by adjustment you can make a fan shroud out of sheet metal
I am working on the same scooter, and it is missing the external coil. Do you know of a source or part number for it?
thanks
john
It's a 6 volt coil common to this era of scooters, I may have a spare used one. I do not know part #, sorry.
I have some parts from two of those, my uncles had them when they were new.
Hi buddy I've just bought one of these . Have you found a decent parts supplier?
Have you ever handled a Rokon? 2 wheel drive. Slow I guess. Never seen or heard of them in Scotland.
Erg leuke film ik heb een kikker bek of wel een boswachter Puch.
