    The Springwood Conservation park was directly opposite my home of 20 years.
    Had many a walk on the numerous tracks👍.
    Thanks for posting Rob.

    The red bridge you walked over used to be the old highway bridge. It was used in the opening scenes of the movie Fortress back in 1992. The dogs used where the Beenleigh police dogs.

    A Great walk.
    Been to that park long time ago...
    Your right about the question of old original growth...short answer, if no large gums, large iron bark trees, it's fairly recent

    • @ninjamoves3642
      @ninjamoves3642 ปีที่แล้ว

      the only old growth are the deepest gullies in Springbrook

      The soil in the Brisbane region is largely shale, so the largest trees were once found near areas closer to the South Coast with higher rainfall and in closer proximity to previous existing volcanic activity. Maybe not so much now but up the end of Hotham Creeks and Pimpama Rivers near enough to the base of large mountain ranges you would find sub-tropical rainforest with larger trees as opposed to what is found near the coastal mangrove areas around the bay.

    I was living in Beenleigh in the 80's before the new trains come out and they moved train stations, I still go back to Beenleigh regularly.

    loggers usually target the largest trees in the area because its most economical but they'd leave the tree if it wasn't straight enough or started branching too close to the ground.

    Wow, I used to live on Plateau Drive and the house backed onto the conservation park. I had 2 encounters with massive carpet pythons in my yard from the park. I used to roller skate at the reservoir as a teenager. Brought back lots of memories 😊

    • @walkaboutwithrob

    Did you ever find the answer to 10:58 in regards to how to tell old bush growth and new bush growth? I hike in Venman Bushland and Brisbane Koala Bushlands all the time and have always wondered this. I suspect the Brisbane Koala Bushlands was logged as the only large thick trees are gnarled iron barks

  • @gordonbarker5844
    @gordonbarker5844 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As you were talking about old /new growth you walked past at least two very old cut stumps, so I think it's been logged.

    i gather you must have done many of your walks during the COVID time? Just going by the lack of traffic or people around (& winter?) Or not....
    I think I've been there (several years back) 😊

    • @walkaboutwithrob
      @walkaboutwithrob  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Wendy E J I tend to do my walks on Sundays, mainly because there are usually less people about. I did some walks during covid, though not many from memory. Most were done either before or after it (or at the tail-end of it).

    Nice trip to stretch the legs, passing by Wellwood should have dropped in for a yoga or Pilates class. Proactive to check your heart, My blood pressure was up when I donated blood at Red Cross Springwood so bought a home BP machine to keep a check. My measures were all good, I think the sex questions on the donation form and the long wait must have caused the rise. Healthy outdoor walking, however in my case constantly pounding the pathways causes joint issues hence the classes of yoga and Pilates.

    • @walkaboutwithrob
      @walkaboutwithrob  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Wendy Fry Just a short walk, was such a beautiful day. Have never done yoga or pilates though I understand there are great benefits from both. My jogging and walking seems to keep me trim and limber. On the form I filled in for my heart test, next to the sex question I just wrote "yes please".
