Allowing Everything To Be as It Is (Excerpt)

  • adyashanti.org - Is it possible to “allow everything to be as it is,” even when you are in the midst of suffering? Adyashanti discusses this foundational teaching and how it is often overlooked because it sounds so simple. While this teaching appears to be straightforward, to actually embody it takes humility and the curiosity to discover what it truly means.
Excerpted from the May 13, 2020 Broadcast, “An Intimate Connection with the Essential”:
    bit.ly/3iU4GFd
    Quotes from this Video:
“Almost every form of human suffering has a strong element of you being disconnected from something that feels important.”
“At the end of the day, 95% of our suffering is optional. It is caused, in large part, by our resistance to what is-either pushing against something or grabbing hold and identifying with something.”
“My interpretation of ‘be still’ is ‘allow everything to be as it already is.’”
“When you allow everything to be as it is, all of a sudden there is this profound and beautiful intimacy with everything.”
“When we are allowing everything to be as it is, there is nothing that is fracturing our experience into preferable or not preferable, into ‘I want this’ or ‘I want that.’ All at once, our experience just unifies.”

When I was a child my grandmother would tell me "Be still". 40 years later, down my spiritual path, I'm finally beginning to understand what she really meant.

The habit of resisting the present moment is so strong we need to 'renew' our decision to 'Allow everything to be as it is' ... every few moments. One moment you may have it, then resistance comes back in, then you must allow it to be as it is once again, then resistance comes back in. Etc, etc. . It's really something which can be developed through practice, but practice based on relinquishing resistance rather than any sort of will-power.

This was very eyeopening and powerful teaching for me. I have really tried to reach this acceptance " to let everything be at it is" and not worry about my illness. I discovered that the more I worry the more my worrying feeling grows and sometimes ends up in a panic and I feel even worse. Listening to this teaching really drag be "back" to the earth so to say. In the end when Adyashanti said, "Just stop". I really stopped and I felt stillness I haven't felt in a long time. Thank you from the deepest of my heart.

When I allow, then within it I find my mind trying to manipulate. If I get comfortable with something I was fighting, my mind comes in and says, “if I get comfortable and accept this, THEN it’ll change”. So I watch my mind trying to change it by not trying to change it. Then I watch my mind getting mad at myself for all the manipulation and for not being farther along on the path. Grrrr.

i think it basically means - - to understand that control is an illusion. You can't control your universe and "make it better"...so chill out, let go and enjoy the show!. What you look at as a "bad event" might be good for you in the long run, In fact it alsmot always is so let go and let things happen as they come to you. Observe the show and chill out.. You don't see it but you are where you're supposed to be. Stay present and just look, hear and breathe.

When I attempt to truly allow things to be as they are I meet a lot of fear. There is a tremendous fear that if I allow things to be as they are then nothing will change for the better. Or that I won’t take any action to change things, like go to protests or clean my room, or bathe. Part of me knows this probably won’t happen, but still there is SO much fear.

If you haven't already, please read "Letting Go" by Dr David R. Hawkins to learn how to deal with this fear. He had helped me tremendously with the same thing. I was not able to accept the present moment because of that fear and many other attachments, and since I followed his advice I am peacful and happy with whatever life brings. Read the book and see for yourself. Much love!

That it didn’t open enough, say enough, do well enough, be well enough, remain calm enough, remain understanding enough, love enough, write truthfully enough. It’s a powerful perspective to boil down the supposedly self betterment motivation behind these perspectives , and see the ruthless prowess speaking underlying , you are not enough, you did not meet the moment 🌺

I watch this from another view, fully aware that its my ego that desires change, but unable to stop it. When I let go, I see the lineage of suffering handed down from moment to moment and see no fault, no blame, nothing besides cause and effect playing out. It still brings up pain, but there isn't that forceful anger and desire to change behind it. Everyday brings grace in forms I cannot expect, and your video was just that.

What about trying to not allow things like the Holocaust, other forms of abuse/violence? Accept the reality but act to change/stop injustices?

Disconnection with reality is the problem. Reality is what god actually is.

I would have to say when that happens, the meaning of courage occurs. And, it's not under discussion anymore.
    I'm just saying!!

Allowing those scared parts of you that are terrified not to be able to allow things as it is, that's the tricky part. Once you can do that and keep allowing the panic to not fuck it up to be as it is.. I'm afraid right now.

Hi, has anyone here overcome trauma from childhood bullying? It has followed me into my adulthood where I've allowed people to manipulate, abuse, or mistreat me in romantic relationships. I'm aware that the rejection from childhood has stuck with me but I don't know how to rid this energy from my body. I'd love some help and kindness❤
