I have the 08 night rod. It's the only Harley I every wanted and it's a blast to ride. I bought it used with 6,000 miles on it and can't get enough of it
there is a little hand tightening screw thing under the throttle area that is probably accidentally tightened a little too much to account for the throttle stickiness. Also, the "gas tank" is indeed not supposed to move like that.
im on my 2nd vrod and i just cant get enough of the rods.the power band you mention between 5 and 6k rpm is absolutely true,it does surge at that range. Its super nimble on turns and after 5 hours riding, you're not beat up cuz the bike is so light.Loooove the over head cams! Great review!
Thank you for this video. I finally found a Harley I actually really like. A Nightrod that just needs mid-controls or even better, rearsets, with a seat a few inches higher, and a lightweight, missile shaped quarter fairing, with a JL Speaker Adaptive lean-angle headlight.
I've had my 2013 VROD for 2 years. Love it. Traded a GSX-R750 to get it. Left Dallas and rode it to California a month or so ago to move. Even 1300 miles was fine on the bike. It's awesome! Glad you loved it.
Dude, awesome honest review of a v-rod, I test rode a couple & had the same reaction. All of these new models are way out of my price range but there's plenty of v-rods out there super cheap. May sell my Sportser & get one after watching this vid, loved your reaction to the power!
Great review! I test rode a Night Rod in 2014, and felt the exact same way about it! It took me three years to get my money straight, and I picked up a brand new 2016 Night Rod show room Modelin vivid black, leftover with no miles on it, andi absolutely love my bike to this day! I agree, the wxhausr is a little quiet, except it comes in handy. Late night rides when I'm getting home 3 o'clock in the morning, so I don't think I'll change it.
I have the 2016 Night Rod in vivid Black. I just got back from taking it for a spin. I had limited time so I only rode about a few miles, plus traffic was congested. I’ll go back out later so I can take it on the freeway. That’s where it was born to ride. My throttle doesn’t stick; that one you’re testing probably needs adjusting. You’re RIGHT: once I test rode it, I HAD TO HAVE IT!!!
I wanted one for years , finally got a 2015 nightrod. It has added sentimental value being from Kc. And builiding the NKC assembly plant where they were made. Plus l worked there again twice in my Union Carpenters career and they were developing the bike at that time. The bikes way cool and is my favorite of six Harleys l have owned over thirty years
the throttle being sticky that's a simple loosening up the bolt that's at the bottom of the clamp around the throttle housing. it is designed to do that for maintenance purposes.
Great review, simple and to the point. I was considering the Victory Hammer, but after seeing this video and the one you made of the Victory, it made it clear to me that the V-Rod is the way to go. I appreciate the review my brother, be good.
I had an 06 Vrod streetrod. Felt like a small bike compared to the Hammer I traded it for. I can see the appeal to sportbike riders but for me I prefer the TQ down low more than the HP up way higher in the rpm like in the Vrod. The difference in power is negligible with a few cheap upgrades to the Victory motor plus you benefit from gobs of TQ. Great review.
Airbox cover wasn't installed correctly, that's the reason for it being loose. Dealer's fault. Two pins in cover fit into mounts in frame. Dzus fastener at back of cover hold the rear of it in place. The throttle sticking was likely due to the "throttle lock" adjusted too tightly. Easy to adjust, "star shaped" knob underneath the throttle. Either a dealer tech fuck up or an earlier test rider adjusted that way. Sometimes used as a substitute for a cruise control. And if you really want to ride a V-Rod that handles, find an '06 or '07 VRSCR Street Rod. The red-headed step-child of the V-Rod line. Cycle World called it "one of the best-kept secrets in motorcycling." www.cycleworld.com/2012/11/20/harley-davidson-vrscr-street-rod-best-used-bikes/
I figured the tank cover was just an error... and it's good to hear that the throttle doesn't necessarily have to be sticky like that. Great comment, thanks for the insight!
I was gunna say, at the beginning, it didn't look like the airbox cover was on correctly. Shifted to the left. You can see the right frame exposed. Good thing that cover didn't come flying off.
Hey guys, I’m new to this HD world so I have my drivers license and all but because of the taxes we pay for automobiles (almost double the price you would get any car in USA) it’s really a stupid investment in my opinion so I decided to go for a bike instead. I won’t be able to buy one just yet, still got to save some money. I really really love HD in terms of design, culture and fan base like the HD gangs etc. My favourite design so far was this particular Night Rod Special. I hope the discontinued Rod model you guys were talking wasn’t this one... I really really want to get one of these beasts
Great review man, I have an '08 Nightster and I'm considering a Night Rod. How does the ride quality compare between the two? And did you feel any more hunched over on the Night Rod than you would on a Sporty or Nighster?
+Tony The Truck Guy thanks! I've never been on the nightster.. but I did test an iron 883 and roadster 1200. Compared to both the nightrod is much more comfortable and much bigger feeling. Ride quality was very good.. it's an awesome bike!
I did, nothing compared to a vrod. No power cruiser can touch the vrods heels, except the vmax. And the vmax feels more like a sportbike, far away from being a real cruiser
Something is broken on gas tank cover, I have a 2013 Nightrod and everything is rock solid. Amazing bike... and my other scoot is a CB1000r. I'm not a freakin Harley guy
They don't sell to the Harley V-Twin traditionalist ,and I also heard that Harley doesn't make money on them with repairs and service, cause the Engine is just so well made, no one ever needs service, unlike to TC-103's that blow up their Cam-Chain tensioners , or at least use to Blow up.

Something to do with emission laws in Europe, thats why. In Australia and Europe they are best selling HD ever. Dont forget this model bike stopped HD from bankruptcy.
00:30 that guy on a red sportster went out on a test ride but the bike died on him :( not a good dealership to be buying bikes from. 00:53 that air box is not secured on the bike - that's a shit dealership to be buying bikes from guys !!! This has to be the worse Harley dealership in the USA.
1400IntruderVS agreed. I think the victory hammer is better compared to the HD breakout. I'm testing one tomorrow so I'll keep that in mind. As for Vrod, I tested the Ducati X Diavel S. HD and Ducati didn't have exactly the same goal for the bikes, but the X Diavel S is hands down the most insane "cruiser" ever.
Damn it dude. I own a hammer s. I’m about to go to a FZ09 and then I see this and I’m like well shit what to do. Eh nah FZ09 still. Right? But damn that is a sweet Harley. And I hate Harleys. That thing fucking rolls out though. Damn.
Andrew Alcorn it does have a lot more torque, even tho he doesnt mention it. The hammer may not be as fast but its sooo much more fun to drive with all that torque down low. When I look at the vrod i say, wheres the torque.
your reaction to the plastic thing moving around at the beginning had me cracking up XD
This is one of the best evaluations of the Night Rod I’ve ever seen. It just happens I have a 2016 Night Rod Special.

Is your V rod more fun than the Gsx r ? Im just curious. ( 07 vrod owner )

I sold my 883 iron sportster. And bought the same model as he drove.
Great review! I test rode a Night Rod in 2014, and felt the exact same way about it! Proud of you bro i was the 4th subscriber on your channel now look at you doing so well :)
Love all your videos bro please keep posting more :)
Good review... I felt the same; that's why I own one. If you put some performance pipes and retune the bike... it really wakes it up. Very fast.
I have the 2016 Night Rod in vivid Black. I just got back from taking it for a spin. I had limited time so I only rode about a few miles, plus traffic was congested. one of the most beautiful motorcycles I've seen and I like this kind of Moto
I wanted one for years , finally got a 2015 nightrod. It has added sentimental value being from Kc. And builiding the NKC assembly plant where they were made. Would love to see a review of the M109R and hear your thoughts on how it compares to this beast. Thumbs up the heck outta this if you guys agree!
the throttle being sticky that's a simple loosening up the bolt that's at the bottom of the clamp around the throttle housing. it is designed to do that for maintenance purposes.
Great review, very informative and well done, thanks.

Another excellent review! Would love to hear your thoughts on the Victory Octane
Thanks! I'll do what I can to get out on the Octane. Might be a bit tough with the recent Victory news, though
I think that'd be a better comparison to the v-rod than the Hammer
Dream cruiser!
I was gunna say, at the beginning, it didn't look like the airbox cover was on correctly. Shifted to the left. You can see the right frame exposed. Good thing that cover didn't come flying off.
Excellent review bro. Loved it. Will there be no v-rod line next year? Is it true?
+MUHAMMAD YOUSAF thanks! I've been told by several Harley salespeople that the Vrod is indeed discontinued and a replacement is not yet clear

Nice motorcycle and road man!
You should test the victory octane
Please try out a gen2 Vmax
0:31 damn Harley LOL. 08 Nightrod owner here.

Try a Victory Octane.
I did, nothing compared to a vrod. No power cruiser can touch the vrods heels, except the vmax. And the vmax feels more like a sportbike, far away from being a real cruiser
Look how refined it sounds ! ! !
Where can I find this exact same bike and how much is it???
Something is broken on gas tank cover, I have a 2013 Nightrod and everything is rock solid. Amazing bike... and my other scoot is a CB1000r. I'm not a freakin Harley guy
Does the radiator system in the V Rod cool the whole engine or just the heads like the twin cooled M8's?
Try a Victory Octane out
They don't sell to the Harley V-Twin traditionalist ,and I also heard that Harley doesn't make money on them with repairs and service, cause the Engine is just so well made, no one ever needs service, unlike to TC-103's that blow up their Cam-Chain tensioners , or at least use to Blow up.
I suppose a Porsche partnership will do that to a motor
BeaglePower G For Me this and Vrod Muscle lost some of its character due to a modern engine, sound is like from my sv1000 rather than a proper v twin.
yeah but its way faster than the air cooled shit
I think a diavel would blow your mind
+David Soto tested one and you're exactly right lol
Great review, really considering getting this from a used dealer cause they are pretty pricey new :)
Why are they stopping the V-Rod line after this year?
OmniHeIix what they are canceling vrod/nightrod...I thought this bike sells, better looking than the other Harley
Because it’s fast and reliable
Something to do with emission laws in Europe, thats why. In Australia and Europe they are best selling HD ever. Dont forget this model bike stopped HD from bankruptcy.
Nice bike !
Did you just passed a school bus and two solid yellow lines haha
Throttle sticking was also an error.
00:30 that guy on a red sportster went out on a test ride but the bike died on him :( not a good dealership to be buying bikes from.
00:53 that air box is not secured on the bike - that's a shit dealership to be buying bikes from guys !!!

Octane is closer to the V-Rod
1400IntruderVS agreed. I think the victory hammer is better compared to the HD breakout. I'm testing one tomorrow so I'll keep that in mind.

This goober said the Hammer is underpowered 😂😂
Damn it dude. I own a hammer s. I’m about to go to a FZ09 and then I see this and I’m like well shit what to do. Eh nah FZ09 still. Right? But damn that is a sweet Harley. And I hate Harleys. That thing fucking rolls out though. Damn.
its just like the Vulcan S.
Are you serious?? Lol! Not even close! I own a V Rod Muscle. A Vulcan S rider will be left seeing my 200 mm Michelin Scorcher in a matter of seconds.
I ment in a since that its too quiet. I didn't know there was laws past against noise pollution.
Oh ok. I had a Street 750 before. That compares to the Vulcan S
I want to see a review of the Vulcan S in comparison to the ninja 650.
Try a Suzuki Boulevard M109R
thought hammers where suppose to smoke these things???
Andrew Alcorn thought it was supposed to at least be close. Not at all.
Andrew Alcorn it does have a lot more torque, even tho he doesnt mention it. The hammer may not be as fast but its sooo much more fun to drive with all that torque down low. When I look at the vrod i say, wheres the torque.
What a weird shit is going on with this particular bike. The throttle and the aluminum cap..
I had kz 440 1981 sound exacly the same ! Poahahaha !!!
