“British” Canadians can’t drink, I’ve been there..

    • @adambeckdesign

@@VictorLugosi Lol, not in comparison to Brits! I moved to the UK over 5 years ago and I remember coming in with the attitude of, "ha, now I get to show these islanders how to really drink!"
Long story short ... they needed no help and I was put in my place. That's not to say that we Canucks don't know how, but we're certainly not on the same level. In Toronto, at least, we definitely drink on Friday and Saturday. BBQs, weekend getaways, on the beach, we're not without our booze. Perhaps even after work during the week we'll sneak in a beer. Maybe two.
This is all entry level compared to Britain, lol. In my first month of work I found out any time is a good time for a pint. Out for lunch with the colleagues? Well, that's a pint! After work with the boss? There's no way you're walking out without at least 2. If the boss isn't there, you're looking at 3-5. Basically, any day and any occassion is the perfect time for a pint.
In Canada, you would never roll in to work hungover and have a conversation with your boss about said hangover. You would regret your choices, soldier through, and avoid any mention of alcohol. In the UK, not only will your boss not judge you for drinking the previous night, they'll probably counter with a recent night out of their own.
Fine, most of the popular draught beers you find in pubs are in the 3-4.5% range ... but that still adds up after 4+. With most pubs shutting around 10pm, as well, that's a lot of booze in a short amount of time.
TLDR: Brits can and do drink! A lot! It's not a sport. It's not a rite of passage or a boast. It's just a thing that is done. And who can blame them? Once you've grown accustomed to the welcoming coziness of a good pub, it's hard to go back to social life prior.

Thrills gum was my favourite as a kid. The Sakura Maple Syrup is a Grade A, Colour 2 syrup which means it has a dark rich flavour and deeper colour than a Grade A Colour 1 syrup (which is more golden in colour and is the maple syrup most familiar to people). Grade A1 maple was probably used in the maple cream cookies. Thank you for sampling and commenting, your comments are always thoughtful and enjoyable. Stay well and be happy.

I've personally witnessed a moose running at full speed in the culvert next to the highway that outlines the city. They grow to be absolute giants, & do pose a serious risk if they suddenly appear on the road. Most of the time you'd be traveling at speeds anywhere from 100-120 km/hr when they suddenly appear. But they are magnificent animals, & always a pleasure to see

If you liked the Canada Dry, you should try Vernor’s Ginger Ale. Mostly found in the Great Lakes region. Especially in Michigan.

LOL. Just love your reaction to Thrills gum. If you like our snacks, you should come visit us when the pandemic is over. There’s so much good stuff to eat in Montreal that cannot be shipped overseas!

I never see hickory sticks around anymore, nobody really buys them here. I don't care for them because the small sticks are too inconvenient to eat.
Glad you guys enjoyed the snacks from my country. Very interesting to watch 😊🇨🇦 have yet to see someone who doesnt like coffee crisp

Theyre good at bbqs. Make a nice juicy burger, add some ketchup/mustard/more bbq sauce etc and then put a layer on top. Reminds me of when i was a kid. :-/

A very nice assortment of canadian treats. Dare maple cream cookies are a regular treat in our home. The thrills gum is made in my home city lol if you chew the gum and think of a flavour like banana or orange it will start to taste like that item. Just a little trick my grade 7 teacher did to us students a long time ago!

I am no where near Canada in Southwest America, but I know I have had some of those treats as a kid in the '70s-80s. Probably something one of my relatives who like to travel brought back I would assume. I know for sure I had the wagon wheels, because I used to think it was a funny name as a kid. I used to love syrup as a kid, but these days I love the flavor of pancakes without syrup... and it makes them easier to eat too. :)

The maple syrup in glass bottles is not as good as the one in metal cans. Fun to see you try Canadian snacks though, thank you.

Oh and the Hickery Sticks, those are really good in a sandwich!

Great video guys 👍 wagon wheels have jam in Australia. I remember they used to taste better when I was a kid, I think Arnott's uses more sugar and less fat in their biscuits these days.

It doesn't have the delicate rose water taste like turkish delights. It really tastes like a strong scented bar of soap. I love it, and always carry one in my purse.

I'm an American but I LOVE poutine... there is a place in the San Francisco Bay Area run by a Canadian expat from Montreal that makes good poutine. I'm looking forward to your poutine video!
Making the gravy and fries should be no problem... but cheese curds may be difficult to find in Japan. Even a specialty store like National Azabu (my go-to place for American groceries in Tokyo when I lived in Yokohama) might have some acceptable white cheeses but probably not curds.

Yay! I am Canadian! I'm in Ottawa, ON. Seems like they've sent some good stuff! I spy a Steam Whistle can! Excellent!
Steam Whistle really is made in downtown Toronto. I'm so glad Satoshi likes it (beer connoisseur 😉). Ontario's microbrew beer scene has just exploded over the last decade. Satoshi would love it.
Edit: HAHAHA! OMG I can't believe they sent you Thrills!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 We used to get them in little packs at Halloween. Awful. The only reason anyone eats them is to confirm that they indeed are as bad as one remembers. HAHA!
Now I'm going to really have to try to find Canadian things for you guys... This person really did an excellent job of sending Canadian snacks.
