Without doubt I find the best way to learn a new song is to watch someone like Joe Murphy on TH-cam demonstrating the song. I find this far better than trying to learn from a tab or by ear. Thanks Joe - you one of the best
Hey thank you very much for your kind words. Also thank you for taking the time to comment. If you ever run out of lessons here I also have a patreon page, with lots more material www.patreon.com/joesguitarlessons 👍
I've been playing for nearly 60 years, never bothered to learn this. I love the version Johnny Cash recorded towards the end of his life. Well, I can play it too now. Bono, Johnny Cash and me, together at last. Ta, Joe, brilliant lesson.
Yeah I am familiar with all those arrangements I really like Johnny Cash and have covered some of his other songs here like “hurt” and whilst I think of it I also like “I won’t back down” I might have to put that up here sometime 👍
Definitely… when it comes to some of the little nuances, you stay within the spirit of the song, but you have to get that feel from yourself, otherwise it doesn’t have feel.
I was born in the 50's and grew up with the Beatles in the 60's. As you were talking your dialect reminded me much of the Beatles. Afterward I discovered you were also from Liverpool. Anyway, great lesson.
Happened upon this tutorial in 2020! I was fortunate enough to have seen U2 live at a sold out Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan back in the late 1980’s during their Joshua Tree tour. Been wanting to learn this one...thanks for sharing your talent Joe👍
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. just in case you are interested i have a patreon page where i have lots of exclusive content. here is link www.patreon.com/joesguitarlessons
Joe I've been playing the guitar on and off 15 years I wish you were telling me this then you are a great teacher you make it look simple and that's what we want . I will keep on strumming you have put the fire back into my belly thanks m8 .
I was looking for this song to learn so my daughter and I could have a sing a long this summer....you are so laid back and genuine in your teaching style. Thanks so much for the embellishments and tutorial.
Justin, I can't thank you enough for how you've helped me in the last 5 months. I bought a guitar and started playin for the first time on April 19th. You should hear me now. You've unlocked a new passion in me and I sing and play along to several songs you taught online...You're great and your way of teaching makes it easier and more pleasurable to learn
Hey Ali, that’s fantastic to hear. Really glad to hear that you are doing very well indeed. Just in case you are interested I have a Patreon page where I have lots of exclusive material, here is a link, would be great to have you on board www.patreon.com/joesguitarlessons
I just want to say, thank you so much for every one of your videos where you say find your own style of strumming and playing, as someone who is completely new and picked up the guitar for the first time in my life, it kinda is one of those tips I feel like is a sort of breakthrough where I feel like I can just hear a song and then sort of feel it out sometimes
Hello my friend..I know this is a comment on a video from a few years back..I am 64 and haven't played since I was in my twenties, when I guit to do things that seemed more important, like running after women and sinning..I've settled down and I picked the 6 strings back up, my fingers don't work like they did, I have small hands, so it's really hard. My strumming is bad, but I've been playing now for 6 months. This is a nice video and I am watching your others and subscribed. I appreciate it very much, thanks for your help, I will get there!!!
Nice one, very clear guide, I agree about the strumming, when you listen to the song and you have the chords down, it's just a matter of finding your own way and that does come with practice.
Joe just like to thank you your lessons have really helped me along my journey and to know people like you who are willing to take the time to share and teach their knowledge is simply amazing. Again thanks so much for the help.
@@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons Hope so Joe, massive game tomorrow. Take care fella, and good look with your brilliant project, its helping loads of people. YNWA
Well said Joe, there's loads of different strum patterns out there and they do my head in trying to remember them all. Like you say if you know the song well and play it enough you will find your own rhythm.
Thank you Joe, I love that song, first time I came across your channel. Your teaching style is simple to the point and I will be jamming out that song on my Baritone Ukelele. It works magically for it. Thank you once again.
Thanks a lot for your guitar lesson, very useful and enjoyable. Now that I've decided to brush up my playing skills, and start all over again, after a long time... So you are helping in a possitive way... Thanks twice.
Hey Joe... I am excited to have subscribed to your amazing guitar course. It pains me to not be able to donate or send a monetary gift as I'm unemployed and going through tough times mentally. I would like to send a heartfelt compliment to you in the absence of a cash gift. People such as yourselves are a true blessing for us lovers of great music, and you definitely deliver. I would like you to know your lessons have been a true blessing to help me strum through some tough times and can't help but imagine all the people who may be in a similar situation. You are very much appreciated, and I thank you so much for what you have offered me in your courses. I hope you understand my situation and hope you receive this message well as it is intended. That was probably the best guitar lesson I've watched on TH-cam Joe. You worded it so it's so easy to understand and the chord diagrams were so useful. Thanks very much Joe, cannot wait until morning to get the old guitar out, don't think neighbours would appreciate it now at this hour.....especially with my playing !......many thanks Joe.
GARY KNIGHT never wait until morning best few beers at night. There was a storm her in Ireland the power went out everywere I took up my best friend and played her all night with a candle and some cold beers. John Denver was right what a friend to have on a cold and lonely night.
Wonderful lesson, thank you for that, now having the chance to start learning this beautiful song! And the accords aside shows so cleary how to play it, great job!!!

I couldn’t agree with you more about the strumming in fact I will be spending some time speaking about that in some future video it’s a very bad idea to get into down up down down up down thanks for taking the time to comment and good luck
