Mercedes Benz W220 (S500 and S430) Headlight Low Beam Bulb Replacement

This video shows how to replace both low beam headlight bulbs on a Mercedes S500 (W220). The driver side bulb is very easy to replace. The passenger side bulb; however, is not. But, by moving the two windshield and coolant reservoirs slightly to the side, you can create ample room to work. The bulbs are from Amazon - 2 pieces for $30 - cheapest anywhere, with a 24 month warranty. I used the 4300K bulbs to replace the stock light color (warmer), but depending on your preference, you can get 6000K or even 8000K bulbs for the same price. One last thing, replace both bulbs even if only one goes out. That is to maintain consistency of intensity and color. Also, chances are the second one will also go out soon if replaced before at the same time. Subscribe to my channel if you like this video. Thx.

Hi Masood, The Amazon Comfirmed Fix states the bulb you recommended does not fix a 2004 S500 4Matic. They suggest a D2S. Not sure what the difference is.

Hey what’s up how is it going bro! Quick question. My driver side low beam bulb was out. Same style as yours. I replaced it today it was indeed a bad bulb, and the low beam still does not work with new bulb installed, but the high beam does on the driver side? Installed new bulb on passenger side too and it works fine. I can hear it “click” when I engage to the high beams particularly the driver side. All other lights work except the driver side low beam. Could it be my ballast maybe? It looks like yours red but it’s bigger and more square shaped and says lock/open on it. I have a 04 w220. Any insight would be appreciated before I start throwing money at parts haha. Thanks man!

Hi, switch low beam bulbs between the driver and passenger sides. If you cannot isolate the problem that way then it could be a connection issue or bad ballast.

@@masood-tv thank you for responding! I did indeed swap the bulbs, the bulbs are fine. I got a new igniter to see if that was the culprit but unfortunately that did not resolve the issue. I just received a new ballast as well so first thing tomorrow morning I will install it under the driver side headlight assembly. I’ll keep you updated! 🤞

@@masood-tvupdate thought I’d share, I ended up getting a used OEM hid headlight assembly and installed it and it solved my issues thankfully. Have a wonderful day!

Some say I need D2s some D2r I'm confused which HID I need. Even mercedes manual handbook not saying exactly. Amazon say D2s not fit another website says it fit.

can you put an led light bulb in a 2004 s500? the factory bulbs are just way too dim and looking to upgrade

Hello NY Acoustics, yes, there are plenty of kits available in the market to upgrade your headlights. Please search Google.

If you use replacement kit, then yes, but it is not always the best solution, especially when the kit does not contain reflectors (mirrors) and lenses and if you will not polish or replace front plexiglass covers. I would rather solve reflectors and lenses together with replacing of the xenon bulbs with new one - the result is guaranteed and you will still have authentic car with really good lights (good xenons are better than bad leds)

Any links to them bulbs I need those and because there’re so many options I can’t figure out what the original bulbs were. Mine it’s a 2006 S430. Anyone could point me in the right direction I’d appreciate it thanks.

So the projector socket is the low beam? that would explain quite a bit... then the high beam center and far inside the driving lights ? well ill be dipped in shit...
