  • The first video in our series covering the restoration / overhaul of a genuine Porsche 911 964 RS from 1992. We will be tackling the bodywork, the engine, gearbox, suspension, wheels and interior trim visiting some of the UK's leading specialists along the way. 911virgin are one of the UK's leading independent Porsche specialists who buy and sell Porsches from the mid 1970s through to the current day.

    I look forward to watching these videos, especially the body work as I have a few rust patches appearing on my 964 which will need attention soon plus a load of oil leaks although every garage I go to wants to rebuild the engine. It runs great just needs leaks fixed !

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bodywork always grows when you start sorting it out so be prepared....
      As for the engine I'm going to side with the people you've spoken to I'm afraid. Just because an engine is running doesn't mean a rebuild isn't due. In fact if you wait until it goes bang the it probably isn't worth rebuilding at all. The oil leaks will be coming from barrel base gaskets and crankcase through bolt seals predominantly. Once you've stripped the engine to do these you're going to do piston rings, valve guides, timing chains / tensioners and so on possibly a bit more.
      In some ways 964 / 993 oil leaks preserve the engines because it is a sign to non mechanically clued up people that work is required. Often a 3.2 Carrera engine is in the near room to death but people don't realise because it isn't spilling oil.
      We will be doing a couple of episodes covering the engine and gearbox so lots of opportunity to learn about what the problems are and how the engine is put together.

      @@911virgin8 thanks for your reply, I will one day get the body work done and the engine out as I would love the car to be sorted. As always its having the budget to do it. I will prioritise the body work as there is some surface bubbling around the front wing where it meets the bumper and a crack on the spoiler. Also the drivers door has over opened as some point causing the door to be slightly bent outwards.
      I will watch the RS series of videos with interest in the hope mine will be sorted out in due course. Cheers Henry.

    Years ago, I was taken around Goodwood in one of these ( white w/ reg; F1OWS If it's still around). Racing an M3 E30 on slicks. Absolutely awesome and probably the fastest I've ever been around the track. The M3 came back and after about a minute the brakes were properly smoking, which drew a crowd.

    • @911virgin8
      @911virgin8  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The great thing about Porsche is they are a track derived car for the road meaning the engineers know every detail that needs attention. Something like the BMW always used to destroy their rear diff when driven in anger on track. Even the brakes, the rear brakes on a Porsche would be on a par with the front brakes of most other "equal" cars.

    Hi great video looking forward to rest of the series. On windscreen washer bottle the normal 964 has one of those in the front as intensive washer system and an additional larger washer tank in wheel arch so i dont think that front bottle is anything specific to rs. It just has the larger reservoir deleted in rs and keeps intensive washer bottle.

What are your thoughts, factory fresh, concourse, or patina and function for the restore? Bushings, some may be very hard now, OEM or aftermarket? Road comfort and all year tyres, 17” Michelin Pilot Sport 2 or the new kid Pilot Sport 4. Exciting! This series will be a universal 964rs go to for an everyday useable car. Subscribed.
