If i am not mistaken, Aatrox is the only being we know about in the League of legends lore that was able to kill a celestial god. He actually killed Pantheon, the celestial aspect of war. The one who suvirved this battle was Atreus (The mortal host for this aspect) but Pantheon was ereased from existence.

@@atreus3006 Apparently, it was "to truly establish Viego as a threat". Which imo would have been fine, if they had at least made his prestige skin (Ascended Pantheon) canon to compensate for it. The premise of Ascended Panth is that Atreus (after Viego's revival of the Pantheon) was able to find a way to overpower the aspect from within this time, and temporarily take the entirety of the aspects power for himself. But, all prestige skins are non-canon "What if...?" scenarios according to Riot. :/
so here on my country Aatrox has a line when he talk to the Twilight Aspect that he say: Aspect of Twilight... NOW U DIE! and i dont see that on the video. On the english version of the game u dont have that quote?
It's worth mentioning that the Aspect of twilight that trapped Aatrox and the Darkin wasn't Zoe, it was the aspect of twilight before Zoe who we don't know about. This makes interactions between Darkin and Zoe all misunderstandings
Well, technically not. Just as Pantheon was an Aspect possessing a Mortal, Zoe is the same. He sees the God possessing the Mortal, not the Mortal betwixt him and the God.

And necrit said that aterus becoming pantheon was different than normal because the aspects normally give the power to the vessel to use and tell them what to do but the pantheon took aterus body from him and controlled him and he was inside him which was different than how it's normally done which was why pantheon could be killed back then. I myself don't know if aatrox killed any other big entities other than pantheon
You should definetly read "the cage". Its a short story of how Aatrox feels in his sword. He basically gets tortured, suffocates and all that for all eternity if he doesn´t consume flesh to build his body. Thats why he´s trying so hard not to get pulled back into his sword. And I think the reason he speaks in 3rd person is because he is terrified of being alone. He spend thousands of years alone in darkness so him talking to himself is like trying to stay sane (which he obviously isn´t). Thats also the reason why he screams so much. He tries to anger the ones around him but he also desperately tries to be heard. And his voiceline "NOTHING CAN KILL ME" always makes me think about how many things he has tried to be able to say that.
Imagine being put into a cocoon shaped strangely, you can fit into it, barely, and then it's vacuumed sealed around you, locking your body in a horribly uncomfortable position while also squeezing you painfully. You cannot expand your chest to take in air, you feel the pain of suffocation but cannot die. The world is muffled and distant, you cannot see, hear or feel anything except your own body, hear your heart pounding and your own sounds of pain. If you focus all of your attention, if you can through the horror you are enduring, you're able to shape flesh into a rudimentary body to hold your prison. While it holds you, the world is slightly less distant. You hear sounds, like noises from the other side of a town. You feel wind, like a tiny puff of air through the crack in a door. You can see, like looking through the bottom of beer bottles. But even this minor respite is being stolen from you, the meat won't stop falling apart, you can't maintain your focus for too long. Truly, absolute hell. Zoe is the Devil.

I also think a part of it is, listen to these quotes. These are affirmations. He's quite literally trying to convince himself that he's doing the right thing, the thing that will save him. I am the darkness I am oblivion etc. Hell, the To war Aatrox quote is almost an evil motivational self pep-talk.

A few notes: For one, the reason the Aspects imprisoned Aatrox and the other Darkin is cause they actually couldn't defeat them, the Aspects weren't strong enough to do so, it's why the Aspect of Twilight before Zoe gave the knowledge of how to imprison them to mortals and then Pantheon gathered armies to give them the chance to do so. I think if the Aspects had the power to actually stop the Darkin they would have, they just couldn't, it's why Aatrox even in his diminished form was able to destroy Pantheon when challenged directly. Another, part of the reason Aatrox is having more problems with finding a host then his two known brethren isn't cause they've been lucky, it's cause he's simply too powerful. His overbearing power and shear force of will is too much for a mortal body to contain, it's why he refers to even the stronger mortals within the LoL roster as his next vessels, because he knows he'll always have to look for more. And also, Aatrox is actually the king of roasting other champions, he does even better and more frequently then Camille. You should check out his "Interactions" video to see them all, they range from just savage to actually very humorous lol The rumor is that the voice actor for Aatrox had so much fun with him that when asked if he'd like to do some bonus interactions towards other champions he jumped at the chance and the lore team just went crazy with them, resulting in Aatrox being the best roaster xD But, I hope you watched the rest of his login screen as the video here cuts off right as it switches gears, to honestly the best part lol Though wanted to say good reactions to him, he's without a doubt one of the best written and voice acted champions in the entire game and I love seeing people get into the details. You're absolutely right too, in that he's very evil, one of the greatest evils on the face of Runeterra and powerful enough to be a serious threat for anyone other then the likes of Aurelion Sol, but at the same time his story is incredibly sad and I can't help but feel for him. Not enough to forgive him and what he's done and will do, but I always think the villains you can empathize with or feel sorry for make for the most compelling ones. I hope to see you checking out his champion interactions in the future, but nonetheless keep it up!
aatrox kills his hosts not because he is powerful because he tries to make them look like his old self none of the other darkin do that and aspects stopped so many darkins but there is too many they humanized some of them they killed some of them and they trapped some of them now only trapped ones remain and yet there is too many of them too (12 in lor number of aspect is lower then that and some of them are stronger then aspects) but yes aatrox is and was one of the biggest threats to runeterra yet he was stopped in his prime times and he even had a bigger army then now he has nothing and now there is bigger threats like belveth i dont think he will ever be like viego (event and stuff not in power level )
@@Agent-KD6-3.7 For one, all of the Darkin do the same thing, morphing the bodies of their victims and the more powerful they are the complete it is. Varus comes across as more human specifically cause he IS more human, but even Rhaast does the same to Kayn if he wins the struggle, he takes some of his powers solely cause Rhaast wasn't as strong as the other remaining Darkin and spent such a long time fighting for control that he retains some of Kayn. The Aspects also tricked ALL Darkin, none of them were "humanized" or defeated straight up, the sealing the Aspect of Twilight taught the mortals either teapped the more powerful Darkin or destroyed the weaker ones, there's no in betweens. Also most of the remaining Darkin are stronger then the Aspects, not all Aspects were made to fight and the ones that are still rely on mortals to "house" them. They are inhenrently weaker then most other "god tier" beings on Runeterra. Aatrox was also stopped "in his prime" due to a trick, so the power of his forces doesn't actually matter at the time, and we know thanks to LoR that Aatrox is still strong enough to actually destroy Runetera if he isn't stopped. Bel'Veth is a much lower threat then he is, and Viego is a complete push over compared to even her, but that's likely why he got his own event, he's essentially weak enough to be stopped without needing to rely on the god-tier characters to stop him. Aatrox is simply too powerful, I don't think we'll ever get an event revolving around him in LoL cause of that.

I saw a very interesting comment on one post regarding Aatrox' quotes which i feel like make him that much more tragic. The comment was talking about how Aatrox often addresses himself in plural which could be a result of him being imprisoned, and thus alone, for so long, bringing him comfort when doing so. There are also a couple of quotes where you could almost hear him start to cry, like in 20:29 and 27:49 where his voice begins to break

Amazing video! I highly recommend the short-story "TWIN DAWNS". It is one of my favorites and is about Aurelion Sol. Every time I read it gives me goosebumps.
21:58 you probably figured it out later but just clarifying, the ascended that turned into darkins were darkins before being entrapped, they were essentially scapegoated and thrown to fight they void and the void corrupted them in return, they could be kept in check for a while by their emperor at the time azir but after his death, the aimless darkins went on a rampage and ruined the world,which is why they got trapped in their weapons by the aspects and uncorrupted ascended.
while trapped in the sword he feels like he is suffocating or drowning, starving. yet he cannot die, he is basically in eternal torture. after centuries of living hell, he couldnt take it anymore, he just wishes for it to end even if it means the end of everything. my favorite champion for sure, he just so epic violent but very sad at the same time, hearing him in game say that he marchs for death, though he wishes it was his own sends chills to my spine. such a great character
It'll be good if you reacted to Mordekaiser. He's one of the more influential people in lore, same as the Darkin in that regard. The Shadow Isle and Viego are jokes to him, and he created the immortal bastion, the centre of Noxus. Although now he's more of a myth to Noxians, seeing ruins of his statue throughout the city, a fable to scare kids. He's a fantastic character, I'm a little annoyed they aren't doing anything with him atm, but he's an event level threat - more so than Viego I'd argue.
They have done some extra work to the lore as of late, now tying Annie of all people to Morde, through Tibbers - which is apparently a powerful demon that deals in fire. Main thing I take away from this is that Morde’s old ally’s are still at play.
Not only the annie thing, but relatated the LB and Rell stories. They all about how the Black Rose desperatly need something to defeat him, as he is slowing building a army and will return

I'm falling in love in the effort and way you do these videos. You take the time to learn more in the wiki and even found yourself wandering through links all the way to Pantheon haha One thing I think the biography doesn't make clear enough, is that the darkin were actually corrupted by the void because of the war. Not all of them, but most. But initially they were kept at bay when they started to hear those voices. Either Nasus, Azir, or other Ascended brethren would help those touched by the void to resist. But then, Xerath betrayed Azir, killed him, Nasus trapped Xerath and his brother Renekton in a tomb, the empire fell and now it was Nasus alone with the job of keeping all the ascended touched by the void of becoming corrupted, at some point it was too much and Nasus fled and hide. With no one to lead them into the right path, those corrupted ascended fell into the void and listened to the voices, becoming the darkin. At some point the darkin discovered blood magic, useful to becoming even powerful the more they killed. They even taught blood magic to a prisoner they had for fun, a Camavor dude, who thanks to the darkin became one of the most powerful beings in Noxus, who also helped to defeat mordekaiser, and also uncle to Viego; Vladimir. There were a lot of darkin at those times in the darkin war, not only the three we know. The thing you say about Tryndamere, and as you saw in the interactions, Aatrox slaughtered Tryndamere's (he is Ashe's boy, I love how Freljord's three clans have inverted the role with the women being the leaders and each clan having one buffy boy as a right hand ahaha) warriors and led him to die, but he managed to survive and now he can also use blood magic without the side effects of being an evil warlord. So that may be why Aatrox has some respect for him as a vessel. Aatrox actually killed Pantheon, the aspect of war, the celestial known as the warrior. But Atreus, the man who was the vessel didn't die, that's why "Pantheon died but not really" haha. And Atreus also has some recent against the aspects on how they use humans to do their chores. So you currently have a Darkin, a former aspect vessel, and a cosmic dragon (Aurelion Sol) against the celestials. Yeah, celestials although really beautiful looking cosmic beings, they have some questionable things. Also, Mount Targon is where aspects get their vessels, anyone who endure the venture and manages to reach the summit, gets welcomed as a worthy vessel. Long time ago, as a preventive measure against the void, some targonians went east and founded a city and created a device to mimic the power of the aspects possesing humans, this device was the sundisc and this method was called the ascension. So yeah, shurima was founded by targonians and the ascended are an alternate version of climbing mount targon, though you get to keep your will instead of being used by an aspect, and also change form into an animal most of the time! (Aatrox changed into an angel, he was the most beautiful of ascended, he may be a representation of Lucifer now that I think of it). I love how we get more empathy in Aatrox than in Jhin, not because he is less evil or something, but because you can understand why he is evil and how he became that. Also he really likes to speak in such manner, I think he quotes a lot of Shakespeare and Nietzsche, such a classy evil fallen angel :D Not all darkins were sealed, some were killed, it is said that only 5 remain, and we only know 3 of them (Varus being 3 in one so in total they're five doesn't count, I think it was only a joke). Oh man, I dream of the day when the League Cinematic Universe (btw, in 2020 they hired staff for live action tv shows and also for live action movies!!!) brings an endgame like movie where all previously introduced characters team up to face either Aatrox, Morde, Viego, Xerath or the Void and the watchers themselves! Maybe the best to do next would be either Azir or Aurelion Sol for the connections to this story. Or, if you want to change the way to champion reactions, you can use the interactive map, select a region, check out all the content and general description of that region, and proceed to react to each champion from that region. You definitely need to do Pantheon after this one! It'll follow on nicely with the story, but also be a change of pace from the evil characters. :) One thing to remember, is that the stories of the characters are most often written from a their own perspective. As far as Aatrox was concerned, before his imprisonment in the blade, he was doing his "noble duty" to a fault even after the fall of Shurima. However, many of the Ascended/Darkin were turning to blood magic and other morally questionable sources of power as means of protecting their territory from each other, and gaining more. Aatrox was no exception, but his centuries of imprisonment (which he describes as being eternally "As if I had stopped mid-breath, and then held my lungs cruelly waiting.") have definitely made his view evolve from, "Whatever I did, it did not deserve THIS" to, viewing his imprisonment as a pure injustice.

As an Aatrox main, I appreciate this video lol (its Seb from twitch btw) I recommend checking out Skin Spotlights as they have every interaction and go pretty in depth on the lines, like some champions have lines when talking to champs from certain regions or special types of champions, etc. I also suggest Nunu and Willump for one of these videos, when you get to them at least. The reason varus dosnt talk back is because when he was made the "darkin" were not established yet, so he has no retort and one A in his name, it just wasn't a thing and then the re-connect varus into the lore by adding him to be one of the darkin ( this was introduced with the music video of varus )
Also, btw. Aatrox is crying in his animated splash art. Zoom in on his eye. That ain’t dust… He’s slaughtering all these people, looking like a demon- a monster; a world ender; a reality destroyer. But he doesn’t enjoy it… he has to. The Cage is too much for him to bear- it’s been a millennia of him not being able to breathe (he constantly feels like he’s on the brink of death from suffocation… but he can’t die… So imagine that feeling for 1000 years) or move, or do *anything.* Just *darkness.* Darkness is all he sees and feels inside the sword. Just crushing, unending, perpetual darkness.
Some people don’t like Aatrox’s dialog because they thought he was too loud and brash. But in reality, if you think about it hard. The reason he roasts and the reason he is loud, is to fight against the crushing silence inside his blade. Think like if you where inside that prison. Endless darkness with nothing to feel or hear, left with only your thoughts, you think you are screaming but you can’t hear it. Sensory deprivation is second to madness, and he was already insane after fighting the void. So he insults and screams to hide his depression and sadness, and his ultimate fear of one day either going back into that prison forever or remaining immortal forever.
I'm impressed by your level of sympathy, it's highlighted the desperate humanity trapped within that blade for me. Never thought I'd relate to a darkin
@@tompatompssonyes because that wasn't him kinda, it was but his mind was already corrupted, they are talking about when he was an ascended who were made to save the world, he was one of the heroes, but they were corrupted by the void which then led to blood magic and chaos. It's not the darkin's fault. They chose to be the good guys and save others, to be the soldiers on the front line, the void is just infectious and fighting on the front line doesn't work all that well.
With Aatrox's theme, not only can you just hear and feel the anger, but it gave me like, this sense of impending doom. As if I could see him marching, sword in hand, making his way towards me menacingly across the field. He is a really intriguing character.
Fun fact; there are more than 3 darkins; a lot are not yet revealed; BUT we've recently got a reveal for the plans regarding the NEXT darkin champion; i believe; i'm not sure; but i THINK there's 5 darkins. In the lore there might've been more that has ceased to exist somehow; but there's 5 darkins confirmed to exist within the world
And i also noticed: in the video of his voicelines; look at his eyes.. it's like tears are burning from his eyes; he is no longer able to let out any form of emotion of grief. He's been hurt for so long that the rage he has within him only burns up his tears
Regarding their ego; i truly believe that their loyalty to what they served was life itself. The responsibility and humbleness that comes with becoming a being that in of itself "protects" life around it. A purpose to defend what they believe in and become an image that others can look up to; that whole thing is essentially part of who they've become; they are, in fact, no longer human; but they are still aware that they once used to be human. So in a sense; even though becoming literal immortal gods in a sense; they're still humans within. Ascension doesn't neccessarily taint the human mind; aspects however is a whole different story. The ascended become a form above themselves; they "evolve". But aspects are HOSTS to celestial beings. Their minds and bodies are literally taken over by the celestials; that's why the shuriman ascended are human gods all the time and remain "human". So i would beg to differ that there's not that much "Ego" compared to what the aspects have. Because to the aspects; humans are only mortals and nothing more; they're below them; so they "use" the humans as hosts to alter the world's balance. It's a different kind of regime entirely. Because; as far as i know; they made the darkin immortal by sealing their conciousness into different weapons right? Are we right to conclude that the ascended aren't immortal? I mean Azir who was the ascended emperor died aswell from assassination. So even tohugh they were regarded gods; they weren't completely immortal to some degree. Hence their humble standpoint towards life & their loyalty no?
it is only now in the aftermath; through the imprisonment & neglect/betrayal that he looked down on the "foolish mortals" who succumbed to their fear of the ascended (the fallen). There was no diplomacy in the actions taken towards the fallen either; it was a ultimatum, not even that; a forced means to control the "imperfect" gods. Because the celestials are extremely territorial in a sense. They believe that they are the true gods of the realm they reside in. To think that other "gods" are a threat to their regime is a act of resistance ; or more so, a act of rebellion towards their "supreme" existance.
Fun fact, if you look at aatrox animation where you heard his voice lines, you can see directly under his head someone still alive under the wood trying to hide from him ;) doubt it worked out for them.
Aatrox is really so interesting the background and history, the current motivations, ideals and actions. The design is so great too! The way he roasts the other darkins (and heroes, there's more i think) were so funny too 😭
Sylas and Aatrox are my favorite characters when you consider all the things you mentioned. Id give Aatrox the edge though since he has this sort of final boss and antichrist aspect, the quote "I am not your enemy, I am THE enemy" is my favorite voice line in league.
Aatrox you got partially right. He does feel like he is forced into being this monster, but not because he doesn't know his purpose, but because he wants his purpose to end once and for all. Because he is trapped inside his weapon, he is physically incapable of dying no matter what. The way we see him currently is him having taken over a host body and used blood magic to try and recreate his old form (Which excessively wears his host bodies out, making the takeovers only temporary). His goal in all this is to try and create a catastrophe so absolute and so universal that it will end the very concept of existance, and thus his life as well, because he's come to the conclusion that the only way to kill an immortal is to erase their very ability to exist. And while he is pursueing suicide via universal implosion, he makes himself as big a threat as he can in order to hopefully meet someone or face something that can kill him before he destroys all life.
Him stating that hes no mortal and that nothing can kill him isnt a flex or an insult, its an outrage provoked by his opponent reminding him that there really isnt an easy way out for him with their pitiful attempts
You've quickly become my favorite channel to enjoy League of Legends lore/character content. Like many others I hope you keep it up as well! Personally I'm a big fan of the Pantheon and Swain voicelines, and I love their stories too. Yone has some awesome voicelines as well, and Aurelion Sol is really somethingtoo. Honestly there's so many interesting champions with cool voicelines.

"why did the aspects do this?" because they are cruel. Pantheon is right in that regard, gods dont acre about mortal life, they just acre about their strength and power. yes, the darkin waged dangerous wars and needed to be stopped, but their punishment was so horrifically cruel it's heartbreaking. In aatrox's color story "the cage" he describes the sensation of being trapped in the sword without a host to wield it. it's as if breathing in and holding that breath infinitely. as if straining your muscles but never letting go. it's not just being asleep or waiting in a room, it's torture.
I'd highly recommend recording your reaction while reading Aatrox's short story ''The Cage'', it is one of my favorite stories in league and it perfectly depics the suffering he is still going through that led him on that path. I identified myself with the story in many levels since it shows us how depressed Aatrox is, how dying is the single only thing he wanted for centuries and not even that he is allowed
Also, it is very undestantable for Aatrox to hate humanity considering they were the ones to bring the void in and start his corruption in the first place, the whole story is depicted in the short story called ''Where Icathia Once Stood''
in 29:00, if he really do kill everything after his body dies no one will be able to take his sword and make him re-incarnate since there is no one alive to do that.(sorry for the bad english, im from Brazil)
I think what he meant by death was about the void taking over runeterra because if he killed all mortals, The void would win and freely take over runeterra because once that happens all existence, memories, life and every matter in the universe will cease to exist Aatrox would probably knew about that since he fought against the void
Its almost that, the thing with darkins is that when a human holds the weapon they are sealed into the darkin takes control over that humano body. So if there are no humans alive he will be stuck into an eternal slumber.
His motivation is so sad. I wonder if he was trying to kill anyone, just to spawn a revengful person, that would kill him, but then realized that's he is just too strong. He killed men and gods and nobody seem to have power to stop him and that makes his story even more tragic. He is so desperate to die and with every victory he just becomes even more desperate.
22:05 They were kind of monsters, waging massive wars that were devastating populations. Having Aatrox trying to end the world is much less of an issue, I do agree the plan was flawed though.

There is a theory that Nagakeborous, the God of Motion living in the waves of Bligewater might be able to kill Aatrox by judging him not worthy - since he is unable to move in several ways, figuratively and literally. He's unable to move on. Failing her judgement would mean death. However ... I strongly doubt Aatrox would allow himself to lose to a god. He killed Pantheon already, his pride would not allow it.
The "Home" line is a pentakill line... when he kill every champion in the enemy team dealing the killing blow himself. so a silent montain of corpses is "Home" i guess.
There is a short story about what it's like being stuck in a weapon, he is always drowning but can never drown, he tries to catch breath but is unable. It is like spending infinity just dying but never getting there.
When he starts saying that 18:54 he is the doom the oblivion. He is reminding to him selfe hes purpose that is total oposit of what he WAS. And you can hear it in hes voice ( i know i am gonna get sorted because of this by, Aa Players) that he is scared.

Also form the battle of Icathia, the voice of the void constantly whispers to him. This is also part of why he wants silence so much and why he want the noise and screams of the battle to cover up the whispers.

There was many darkin besides Aatrox, Varus and Rhaast, but those Darkin did died (The Aspect of Twilight used the Chalicar to do it, but it can only be done once, therefore, Aatrox and the others would have to be imprisoned, as they didn't have other medium to kill them) and Aatrox also has an interaction with many others champions (like Garen and etc) but with Shen, who uses an spiritual Blade, he says "An Spiritual Blade Master Shen? Test it against me."
The reson varus and raast can have stable host is they are seem to have a bit more patience. Also While raast needs to battle for control. If someone tries to pick up aatrox (the blade) there are instantly taken over. Also they other darken seem to be fine with one host while aatrox is trying to remake what he once was. my faviorte line is: "A God....reduced to a prisoner." The voicecrack on this line, sounds like he wants to cry, like he is shaken by the idea how far he once was and only a prisoner. Aatrox dosent know, if by killing everything he will die. But he is already sooo hopeless that its more then worth it to try. Rhaast, Aatrox and Varus all have the same problem. They need a host, Rhaast was only unfortune enough to be picked up by some one who can ressist him ( for now), As far as i know, Aartox is the most powerful out of them and therefore his Hosts decay imediatly and cant be ressisted. Honestly, I see tragic characters and evil characters as two different things. And I think that he has the unspoken goal of his hope that eventually, if he causes enough problems, that he will find someone or something that can actually kill him.
He can not be "killed". The most near thing is erased from existence. And for that, he need a human with sufficient forse of will to submit him (if you don't know, when a human is able to controll a darkin weapon, instantly kill the spirit, and yes, Kayn too). Aatrox has probably one of the most depressing stories in LoL IMO. Would love to see you react to Necrits lore video (the full story one)! If I recall correctly, he's trying to end the world in order to die/be at peace.
Fun fact: There are four known darkin that have survived to present day. Three of them are playable, and each one of them are themed from the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Aatrox being War as he goes into battles to end basically everything. Varus being pestilence as one of his in game abilities is called “Blighted Quiver.” Kayn/Rhaast being death, but death in league is never simple. Harking back to Kindred, Kayn and Rhaast is having a struggle wherein the winner takes over the host. If Kayne wins, he becomes almost a specter, traveling through shadows to take down their prey when they least expect it in the most efficient way possible. If Rhaast wins, he almost becomes like Aatrox wherein he is more savage and brutal when killing his prey. It is speculated that the fourth darkin is female because in one of Varus’ comics, he’s gone into Shurima to find his “sister.”

After the great War btw shurima and the void aatrox and the other darkin who were warriors blessed by the light of the gods of shurima has turned insane after looking at their ally die during that battle. Fun fact jax is the only survivor of his people after the void attacked now he's looking to someone who could be his student to teach him the martial art of what's left of his people
Celestials are higher beings that doesn't have the same viewpoint as mortals. While it does not justify their actions their entire plot is sealing or stopping The Void's advance. They enslave Aurelion because he can close the void rifts, they founded Shurima by giving them the Sun Disc to stop The Void in Icathia. They communicate with Nami's tribe through the Aspect of the Moon's host to trade special stones that are used to empower the crown that enslave Aurelion while also simultaneously giving them a stone that helps their tribe seal Void rifts under the ocean (although since Diana moved to Ionia for still unknown reason, Nami couldn't get the stone that would seal the rift close to their tribe). The Watchers in the Freljord have no signs of Celestial involvement since Lissandra seems to be able to take care of them, and there's also 3-5 demigods that guards it (interesting to just mention that further north than Freljord is a huge arctic like place where the creatures in the cards; She Who Wanders, and They Who Endure settled. They're pretty damn cool just to not mention). So yeah, the have been kinda desperate to stop The Void ever since they were created from the first breath of creation that they've been doing a lot of involvement that unfortunately resulted to something like Aatrox.
you can also tell he is doing one of the most common depression tactics of hiding from his feelings and trying really hard to distract himself with anything else tho in his case its murder and battle.
I think about this often and this video is old now but. They trapped them at the absolute worst time. The ascended were literally having a meeting about reforming shurima when the majority of them were first trapped. Aatrox, Rhaast, Varus. They were essentially hunted until they were trapped by the people of shurima that they once protected, if not outsiders and strangers. It's stupid sad.
Of all three darkins we know - I like Rhaast the most. Aatrox is a depresso who needs a therapy with hugs. You actually may check Aatrox's story called "The Cage". Gives you a glimpse on how it felt being trapped. Gives me chills. And Rhaast is just...enjoying being an avatar of death and his interactions with Kayn are just amazing. Hoping forward to you giving these two some attention too ^^"
Riot is really good at making tragic things, and they really enjoy world ending threats. The Void wanting to wipe out all existence, the Darkin basically wanting the same, Mordekaiser wanting to expand his death realm, Viego and the harrowing, Aurelion Sol coming for revenge. Then there's the smaller tragedies, like Annie, Amumu, Diana and Leona being torn apart, the new character Nilah and her whole story, etc etc ad nuaseam. I worry about the writers at Riot tbh, lol.

If i am not mistaken, Aatrox is the only being we know about in the League of legends lore that was able to kill a celestial god. He actually killed Pantheon, the celestial aspect of war. The one who suvirved this battle was Atreus (The mortal host for this aspect) but Pantheon was ereased from existence.

The premise of Ascended Panth is that Atreus (after Viego's revival of the Pantheon) was able to find a way to overpower the aspect from within this time, and temporarily take the entirety of the aspects power for himself. But, all prestige skins are non-canon "What if...?" scenarios according to Riot. :/

You should definetly read "the cage". Its a short story of how Aatrox feels in his sword. He basically gets tortured, suffocates and all that for all eternity if he doesn´t consume flesh to build his body. Thats why he´s trying so hard not to get pulled back into his sword. And I think the reason he speaks in 3rd person is because he is terrified of being alone. He spend thousands of years alone in darkness so him talking to himself is like trying to stay sane (which he obviously isn´t). Thats also the reason why he screams so much. He tries to anger the ones around him but he also desperately tries to be heard. And his voiceline "NOTHING CAN KILL ME" always makes me think about how many things he has tried to be able to say that.
Imagine being put into a cocoon shaped strangely, you can fit into it, barely, and then it's vacuumed sealed around you, locking your body in a horribly uncomfortable position while also squeezing you painfully.
You cannot expand your chest to take in air, you feel the pain of suffocation but cannot die.
The world is muffled and distant, you cannot see, hear or feel anything except your own body, hear your heart pounding and your own sounds of pain.
If you focus all of your attention, if you can through the horror you are enduring, you're able to shape flesh into a rudimentary body to hold your prison. While it holds you, the world is slightly less distant.

A few notes:
For one, the reason the Aspects imprisoned Aatrox and the other Darkin is cause they actually couldn't defeat them, the Aspects weren't strong enough to do so, it's why the Aspect of Twilight before Zoe gave the knowledge of how to imprison them to mortals and then Pantheon gathered armies to give them the chance to do so. I think if the Aspects had the power to actually stop the Darkin they would have, they just couldn't, it's why Aatrox even in his diminished form was able to destroy Pantheon when challenged directly.
Another, part of the reason Aatrox is having more problems with finding a host then his two known brethren isn't cause they've been lucky, it's cause he's simply too powerful. His overbearing power and shear force of will is too much for a mortal body to contain, it's why he refers to even the stronger mortals within the LoL roster as his next vessels, because he knows he'll always have to look for more.
And also, Aatrox is actually the king of roasting other champions, he does even better and more frequently then Camille. You should check out his "Interactions" video to see them all, they range from just savage to actually very humorous lol The rumor is that the voice actor for Aatrox had so much fun with him that when asked if he'd like to do some bonus interactions towards other champions he jumped at the chance and the lore team just went crazy with them, resulting in Aatrox being the best roaster xD

Though wanted to say good reactions to him, he's without a doubt one of the best written and voice acted champions in the entire game and I love seeing people get into the details. You're absolutely right too, in that he's very evil, one of the greatest evils on the face of Runeterra and powerful enough to be a serious threat for anyone other then the likes of Aurelion Sol, but at the same time his story is incredibly sad and I can't help but feel for him. Not enough to forgive him and what he's done and will do, but I always think the villains you can empathize with or feel sorry for make for the most compelling ones. I hope to see you checking out his champion interactions in the future, but nonetheless keep it up!

About the aspects killing Darkins. They actually did, at least those they could beat.
aatrox kills his hosts not because he is powerful because he tries to make them look like his old self none of the other darkin do that and aspects stopped so many darkins but there is too many they humanized some of them they killed some of them and they trapped some of them now only trapped ones remain and yet there is too many of them too (12 in lor number of aspect is lower then that and some of them are stronger then aspects) but yes aatrox is and was one of the biggest threats to runeterra yet he was stopped in his prime times and he even had a bigger army then now he has nothing and now there is bigger threats like belveth i dont think he will ever be like viego (event and stuff not in power level

@@Agent-KD6-3.7 For one, all of the Darkin do the same thing, morphing the bodies of their victims and the more powerful they are the complete it is. Varus comes across as more human specifically cause he IS more human, but even Rhaast does the same to Kayn if he wins the struggle, he takes some of his powers solely cause Rhaast wasn't as strong as the other remaining Darkin and spent such a long time fighting for control that he retains some of Kayn.
The Aspects also tricked ALL Darkin, none of them were "humanized" or defeated straight up, the sealing the Aspect of Twilight taught the mortals either teapped the more powerful Darkin or destroyed the weaker ones, there's no in betweens.
Also most of the remaining Darkin are stronger then the Aspects, not all Aspects were made to fight and the ones that are still rely on mortals to "house" them. They are inhenrently weaker then most other "god tier" beings on Runeterra.
Aatrox was also stopped "in his prime" due to a trick, so the power of his forces doesn't actually matter at the time, and we know thanks to LoR that Aatrox is still strong enough to actually destroy Runetera if he isn't stopped. Bel'Veth is a much lower threat then he is, and Viego is a complete push over compared to even her, but that's likely why he got his own event, he's essentially weak enough to be stopped without needing to rely on the god-tier characters to stop him. Aatrox is simply too powerful, I don't think we'll ever get an event revolving around him in LoL cause of that.

I saw a very interesting comment on one post regarding Aatrox' quotes which i feel like make him that much more tragic. The comment was talking about how Aatrox often addresses himself in plural which could be a result of him being imprisoned, and thus alone, for so long, bringing him comfort when doing so. There are also a couple of quotes where you could almost hear him start to cry, like in 20:29 and 27:49 where his voice begins to break

they were essentially scapegoated and thrown to fight they void and the void corrupted them in return, they could be kept in check for a while by their emperor at the time azir but after his death, the aimless darkins went on a rampage and ruined the world,which is why they got trapped in their weapons by the aspects and uncorrupted ascended.
while trapped in the sword he feels like he is suffocating or drowning, starving. yet he cannot die, he is basically in eternal torture. after centuries of living hell, he couldnt take it anymore, he just wishes for it to end even if it means the end of everything. my favorite champion for sure, he just so epic violent but very sad at the same time, hearing him in game say that he marchs for death, though he wishes it was his own sends chills to my spine. such a great character
It'll be good if you reacted to Mordekaiser. He's one of the more influential people in lore, same as the Darkin in that regard. The Shadow Isle and Viego are jokes to him, and he created the immortal bastion, the centre of Noxus. Although now he's more of a myth to Noxians, seeing ruins of his statue throughout the city, a fable to scare kids. He's a fantastic character, I'm a little annoyed they aren't doing anything with him atm, but he's an event level threat - more so than Viego I'd argue.
They have done some extra work to the lore as of late, now tying Annie of all people to Morde, through Tibbers - which is apparently a powerful demon that deals in fire. Main thing I take away from this is that Morde’s old ally’s are still at play.

Something I noticed in Aatrox's theme is that the bells kind of resemble his basic combos, like Q>Q>Q and Q>Q>E>Q
I'm falling in love in the effort and way you do these videos. You take the time to learn more in the wiki and even found yourself wandering through links all the way to Pantheon haha
One thing I think the biography doesn't make clear enough, is that the darkin were actually corrupted by the void because of the war. Not all of them, but most. But initially they were kept at bay when they started to hear those voices. Either Nasus, Azir, or other Ascended brethren would help those touched by the void to resist. But then, Xerath betrayed Azir, killed him, Nasus trapped Xerath and his brother Renekton in a tomb, the empire fell and now it was Nasus alone with the job of keeping all the ascended touched by the void of becoming corrupted, at some point it was too much and Nasus fled and hide. With no one to lead them into the right path, those corrupted ascended fell into the void and listened to the voices, becoming the darkin.
At some point the darkin discovered blood magic, useful to becoming even powerful the more they killed. They even taught blood magic to a prisoner they had for fun, a Camavor dude, who thanks to the darkin became one of the most powerful beings in Noxus, who also helped to defeat mordekaiser, and also uncle to Viego; Vladimir.
There were a lot of darkin at those times in the darkin war, not only the three we know. The thing you say about Tryndamere, and as you saw in the interactions, Aatrox slaughtered Tryndamere's (he is Ashe's boy, I love how Freljord's three clans have inverted the role with the women being the leaders and each clan having one buffy boy as a right hand ahaha) warriors and led him to die, but he managed to survive and now he can also use blood magic without the side effects of being an evil warlord. So that may be why Aatrox has some respect for him as a vessel.
Aatrox actually killed Pantheon, the aspect of war, the celestial known as the warrior. But Atreus, the man who was the vessel didn't die, that's why "Pantheon died but not really" haha. And Atreus also has some recent against the aspects on how they use humans to do their chores. So you currently have a Darkin, a former aspect vessel, and a cosmic dragon (Aurelion Sol) against the celestials. Yeah, celestials although really beautiful looking cosmic beings, they have some questionable things.
Also, Mount Targon is where aspects get their vessels, anyone who endure the venture and manages to reach the summit, gets welcomed as a worthy vessel. Long time ago, as a preventive measure against the void, some targonians went east and founded a city and created a device to mimic the power of the aspects possesing humans, this device was the sundisc and this method was called the ascension. So yeah, shurima was founded by targonians and the ascended are an alternate version of climbing mount targon, though you get to keep your will instead of being used by an aspect, and also change form into an animal most of the time! (Aatrox changed into an angel, he was the most beautiful of ascended, he may be a representation of Lucifer now that I think of it).
I love how we get more empathy in Aatrox than in Jhin, not because he is less evil or something, but because you can understand why he is evil and how he became that. Also he really likes to speak in such manner, I think he quotes a lot of Shakespeare and Nietzsche, such a classy evil fallen angel :D
Not all darkins were sealed, some were killed, it is said that only 5 remain, and we only know 3 of them (Varus being 3 in one so in total they're five doesn't count, I think it was only a joke).
Oh man, I dream of the day when the League Cinematic Universe (btw, in 2020 they hired staff for live action tv shows and also for live action movies!!!) brings an endgame like movie where all previously introduced characters team up to face either Aatrox, Morde, Viego, Xerath or the Void and the watchers themselves!
Maybe the best to do next would be either Azir or Aurelion Sol for the connections to this story. One thing to remember, is that the stories of the characters are most often written from a their own perspective.
As far as Aatrox was concerned, before his imprisonment in the blade, he was doing his "noble duty" to a fault even after the fall of Shurima. However, many of the Ascended/Darkin were turning to blood magic and other morally questionable sources of power as means of protecting their territory from each other, and gaining more.
Aatrox was no exception, but his centuries of imprisonment (which he describes as being eternally "As if I had stopped mid-breath, and then held my lungs cruelly waiting.") have definitely made his view evolve from, "Whatever I did, it did not deserve THIS" to, viewing his imprisonment as a pure injustice.
yeah pantheon has some great lines and is very different than the other targonian champions .

The reason varus dosnt talk back is because when he was made the "darkin" were not established yet, so he has no retort and one A in his name, it just wasn't a thing and then the re-connect varus into the lore by adding him to be one of the darkin ( this was introduced with the music video of varus )
Also, btw. Aatrox is crying in his animated splash art. Zoom in on his eye. That ain’t dust… He’s slaughtering all these people, looking like a demon- a monster; a world ender; a reality destroyer. But he doesn’t enjoy it… he has to. The Cage is too much for him to bear- it’s been a millennia of him not being able to breathe (he constantly feels like he’s on the brink of death from suffocation… but he can’t die… So imagine that feeling for 1000 years) or move, or do *anything.* Just *darkness.* Darkness is all he sees and feels inside the sword. Just crushing, unending, perpetual darkness.
Some people don’t like Aatrox’s dialog because they thought he was too loud and brash. But in reality, if you think about it hard. The reason he roasts and the reason he is loud, is to fight against the crushing silence inside his blade. Think like if you where inside that prison. Endless darkness with nothing to feel or hear, left with only your thoughts, you think you are screaming but you can’t hear it. Sensory deprivation is second to madness, and he was already insane after fighting the void. So he insults and screams to hide his depression and sadness, and his ultimate fear of one day either going back into that prison forever or remaining immortal forever.
Fun fact: he always scream because he's scare of being lonely, he shouted to make sure people hear him

It's sad to see how Aatrox wasn't given the role he wanted in the world but instead he was given to be a villain but he still played his part
I mean, he still used horrific methods like blood magic before he got imprisoned so idk what his role would have been other than villain lol.
@@tompatompssonyes because that wasn't him kinda, it was but his mind was already corrupted, they are talking about when he was an ascended who were made to save the world, he was one of the heroes, but they were corrupted by the void which then led to blood magic and chaos. It's not the darkin's fault. They chose to be the good guys and save others, to be the soldiers on the front line, the void is just infectious and fighting on the front line doesn't work all that well.
With Aatrox's theme, not only can you just hear and feel the anger, but it gave me like, this sense of impending doom. As if I could see him marching, sword in hand, making his way towards me menacingly across the field.
He is a really intriguing character.
Fun fact; there are more than 3 darkins; a lot are not yet revealed; BUT we've recently got a reveal for the plans regarding the NEXT darkin champion; i believe; i'm not sure; but i THINK there's 5 darkins. In the lore there might've been more that has ceased to exist somehow; but there's 5 darkins confirmed to exist within the world
And i also noticed: in the video of his voicelines; look at his eyes.. it's like tears are burning from his eyes; he is no longer able to let out any form of emotion of grief. He's been hurt for so long that the rage he has within him only burns up his tears
Regarding their ego; i truly believe that their loyalty to what they served was life itself. The responsibility and humbleness that comes with becoming a being that in of itself "protects" life around it. A purpose to defend what they believe in and become an image that others can look up to; that whole thing is essentially part of who they've become; they are, in fact, no longer human; but they are still aware that they once used to be human. So in a sense; even though becoming literal immortal gods in a sense; they're still humans within. Ascension doesn't neccessarily taint the human mind; aspects however is a whole different story. The ascended become a form above themselves; they "evolve". But aspects are HOSTS to celestial beings. Their minds and bodies are literally taken over by the celestials; that's why the shuriman ascended are human gods all the time and remain "human". So i would beg to differ that there's not that much "Ego" compared to what the aspects have. Because to the aspects; humans are only mortals and nothing more; they're below them; so they "use" the humans as hosts to alter the world's balance. It's a different kind of regime entirely. Because; as far as i know; they made the darkin immortal by sealing their conciousness into different weapons right? Are we right to conclude that the ascended aren't immortal? I mean Azir who was the ascended emperor died aswell from assassination. So even tohugh they were regarded gods; they weren't completely immortal to some degree. Hence their humble standpoint towards life & their loyalty no?
They still; risked their lives to protect what they and the people cared for. Hence the nobility
it is only now in the aftermath; through the imprisonment & neglect/betrayal that he looked down on the "foolish mortals" who succumbed to their fear of the ascended (the fallen). There was no diplomacy in the actions taken towards the fallen either; it was a ultimatum, not even that; a forced means to control the "imperfect" gods. Because the celestials are extremely territorial in a sense. They believe that they are the true gods of the realm they reside in. To think that other "gods" are a threat to their regime is a act of resistance ; or more so, a act of rebellion towards their "supreme" existance.

Fun fact, if you look at aatrox animation where you heard his voice lines, you can see directly under his head someone still alive under the wood trying to hide from him ;) doubt it worked out for them.

Aatrox you got partially right. He does feel like he is forced into being this monster, but not because he doesn't know his purpose, but because he wants his purpose to end once and for all.
Because he is trapped inside his weapon, he is physically incapable of dying no matter what. The way we see him currently is him having taken over a host body and used blood magic to try and recreate his old form (Which excessively wears his host bodies out, making the takeovers only temporary). His goal in all this is to try and create a catastrophe so absolute and so universal that it will end the very concept of existance, and thus his life as well, because he's come to the conclusion that the only way to kill an immortal is to erase their very ability to exist. And while he is pursueing suicide via universal implosion, he makes himself as big a threat as he can in order to hopefully meet someone or face something that can kill him before he destroys all life.
“This entire catastrophe has been nothing but the worlds longest suicide note!”
"Let me earn their hatred" was the line that made me believe the Darkin War was a lie made by the Ascended.

You've quickly become my favorite channel to enjoy League of Legends lore/character content. Like many others I hope you keep it up as well! Personally I'm a big fan of the Pantheon and Swain voicelines, and I love their stories too. Yone has some awesome voicelines as well, and Aurelion Sol is really somethingtoo. Honestly there's so many interesting champions with cool voicelines.

"why did the aspects do this?" because they are cruel. Pantheon is right in that regard, gods dont acre about mortal life, they just acre about their strength and power. yes, the darkin waged dangerous wars and needed to be stopped, but their punishment was so horrifically cruel it's heartbreaking. In aatrox's color story "the cage" he describes the sensation of being trapped in the sword without a host to wield it. it's as if breathing in and holding that breath infinitely. as if straining your muscles but never letting go. it's not just being asleep or waiting in a room, it's torture.
I think you should, cope, seethe and/or mald.
Aatrox essentially believes that if he puts an end to all existance, he too shall stop existing by consequence.
I'd highly recommend recording your reaction while reading Aatrox's short story ''The Cage'', it is one of my favorite stories in league and it perfectly depics the suffering he is still going through that led him on that path. I identified myself with the story in many levels since it shows us how depressed Aatrox is, how dying is the single only thing he wanted for centuries and not even that he is allowed
Also, it is very undestantable for Aatrox to hate humanity considering they were the ones to bring the void in and start his corruption in the first place, the whole story is depicted in the short story called ''Where Icathia Once Stood''

Its almost that, the thing with darkins is that when a human holds the weapon they are sealed into the darkin takes control over that humano body. So if there are no humans alive he will be stuck into an eternal slumber.
The video you watched with darkin interactions near the end is one I sometimes rewatch as the lines are just too entertaining.

His motivation is so sad. I wonder if he was trying to kill anyone, just to spawn a revengful person, that would kill him, but then realized that's he is just too strong. He killed men and gods and nobody seem to have power to stop him and that makes his story even more tragic. He is so desperate to die and with every victory he just becomes even more desperate.
One of my most favorite characters of Rio'ts runeterra is Sion, his story and voicelines are something else man.

There is a theory that Nagakeborous, the God of Motion living in the waves of Bligewater might be able to kill Aatrox by judging him not worthy - since he is unable to move in several ways, figuratively and literally. He's unable to move on.
Failing her judgement would mean death. However ... I strongly doubt Aatrox would allow himself to lose to a god. He killed Pantheon already, his pride would not allow it.
The "Home" line is a pentakill line... when he kill every champion in the enemy team dealing the killing blow himself.

There is a short story about what it's like being stuck in a weapon, he is always drowning but can never drown, he tries to catch breath but is unable. It is like spending infinity just dying but never getting there.

iirc the aspects of twilight and war mentioned here in aatrox lore are not zoe or atreus/pantheon but i believe previous incarnations of them
Also form the battle of Icathia, the voice of the void constantly whispers to him. This is also part of why he wants silence so much and why he want the noise and screams of the battle to cover up the whispers.
I always taught Aatrox was evil but then i found out zoe was a celestial aspect.
"FIGHT OR BE FORGOTTEN" he used to say this to his Opponent's now he says it to himself as a reminder of if he has to do this because if he doesnt he will go back to that place the worst sorrow he has ever known and he will be forgotten 36:24 he is talking to a voidling, being exposed to void for long periods of time will corrupt anyone like Kai'sa. If there was was a way for Aatrox to being a pure god warrior again he would surely TAKE IT. He eggs tryndamere on because he HOPES he can ACTUALLY kill him.
I mean... There was many darkin besides Aatrox, Varus and Rhaast, but those Darkin did died (The Aspect of Twilight used the Chalicar to do it, but it can only be done once, therefore, Aatrox and the others would have to be imprisoned, as they didn't have other medium to kill them) and Aatrox also has an interaction with many others champions (like Garen and etc) but with Shen, who uses an spiritual Blade, he says "An Spiritual Blade Master Shen? Test it against me."
The reson varus and raast can have stable host is they are seem to have a bit more patience. Also While raast needs to battle for control. If someone tries to pick up aatrox (the blade) there are instantly taken over. Also they other darken seem to be fine with one host while aatrox is trying to remake what he once was. A 35 feet tall killing machine. Every person he kills is added to his form . I can't imagine the smell

my faviorte line is: "A God....reduced to a prisoner." The voicecrack on this line, sounds like he wants to cry, like he is shaken by the idea how far he once was and only a prisoner.
Aatrox dosent know, if by killing everything he will die. But he is already sooo hopeless that its more then worth it to try.
Rhaast, Aatrox and Varus all have the same problem.
They need a host, Rhaast was only unfortune enough to be picked up by some one who can ressist him ( for now), As far as i know, Aartox is the most powerful out of them and therefore his Hosts decay imediatly and cant be ressisted.
But no matter Rhaast, Varus, Aartox or any other Darkin, they are all trapped in their weapons, even if they take over a host, they themselve (their souls if u want) is still in the weapon, they just controll the host like a puppet. So they are never truly free of their prison.
Also about u blaming the aspects, about impriosing them. U must know that they were beginning to be a great threat to the world, and they could not be deafeted, thats why this prison was the only way

Honestly, I see tragic characters and evil characters as two different things. And I think that he has the unspoken goal of his hope that eventually, if he causes enough problems, that he will find someone or something that can actually kill him.
He can not be "killed". The most near thing is erased from existence. And for that, he need a human with sufficient forse of will to submit him (if you don't know, when a human is able to controll a darkin weapon, instantly kill the spirit, and yes, Kayn too). Not easy, because not even the Ascendeds can controll him
When u think he is taunting his enemies with these lines"i do not die,nothing can kill me"he isnt taunting actually,he is griefing .
Aatrox's best line has to be when he taunts Taric "Hail the protector! Hail Taric, aspect of- get a haircut!"

Fun fact: There are four known darkin that have survived to present day. Three of them are playable, and each one of them are themed from the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Aatrox being War as he goes into battles to end basically everything. Varus being pestilence as one of his in game abilities is called “Blighted Quiver.” Kayn/Rhaast being death, but death in league is never simple. Harking back to Kindred, Kayn and Rhaast is having a struggle wherein the winner takes over the host. If Kayne wins, he becomes almost a specter, traveling through shadows to take down their prey when they least expect it in the most efficient way possible. If Rhaast wins, he almost becomes like Aatrox wherein he is more savage and brutal when killing his prey. It is speculated that the fourth darkin is female because in one of Varus’ comics, he’s gone into Shurima to find his “sister.”

After the great War btw shurima and the void aatrox and the other darkin who were warriors blessed by the light of the gods of shurima has turned insane after looking at their ally die during that battle. Fun fact jax is the only survivor of his people after the void attacked now he's looking to someone who could be his student to teach him the martial art of what's left of his people
Celestials are higher beings that doesn't have the same viewpoint as mortals. While it does not justify their actions their entire plot is sealing or stopping The Void's advance. They enslave Aurelion because he can close the void rifts, they founded Shurima by giving them the Sun Disc to stop The Void in Icathia. They communicate with Nami's tribe through the Aspect of the Moon's host to trade special stones that are used to empower the crown that enslave Aurelion while also simultaneously giving them a stone that helps their tribe seal Void rifts under the ocean (although since Diana moved to Ionia for still unknown reason, Nami couldn't get the stone that would seal the rift close to their tribe). The Watchers in the Freljord have no signs of Celestial involvement since Lissandra seems to be able to take care of them, and there's also 3-5 demigods that guards it (interesting to just mention that further north than Freljord is a huge arctic like place where the creatures in the cards; She Who Wanders, and They Who Endure settled. They're pretty damn cool just to not mention).
So yeah, the have been kinda desperate to stop The Void ever since they were created from the first breath of creation that they've been doing a lot of involvement that unfortunately resulted to something like Aatrox.
you can also tell he is doing one of the most common depression tactics of hiding from his feelings and trying really hard to distract himself with anything else tho in his case its murder and battle.
I think about this often and this video is old now but. They trapped them at the absolute worst time. The ascended were literally having a meeting about reforming shurima when the majority of them were first trapped. Aatrox, Rhaast, Varus. They were essentially hunted until they were trapped by the people of shurima that they once protected, if not outsiders and strangers. It's stupid sad.
Of all three darkins we know - I like Rhaast the most.
Aatrox is a depresso who needs a therapy with hugs. You actually may check Aatrox's story called "The Cage". Gives you a glimpse on how it felt being trapped. Gives me chills.

Riot is really good at making tragic things, and they really enjoy world ending threats. The Void wanting to wipe out all existence, the Darkin basically wanting the same, Mordekaiser wanting to expand his death realm, Viego and the harrowing, Aurelion Sol coming for revenge. Then there's the smaller tragedies, like Annie, Amumu, Diana and Leona being torn apart, the new character Nilah and her whole story, etc etc ad nuaseam. I worry about the writers at Riot tbh, lol.
