- Thank you for watching this video.
I decided to try something different for this video and do more of an informative introduction.
This Yamaha Pss-470 has been sitting on my shelf for over a year now and I thought it could use some well-deserved attention. It's a great keyboard to mess about with, sure some of the sounds are cheap and without effects, it does sound rather toy-like. However, as you can see in this video just a few effects can really make this keyboard sound way better.
Please let me know what you think, I spent more time on this video than any other so far so knowing if it was worth the extra time really helps me with future projects.
Thank you for watching the video and I do hope you like and subscribe!

"Please let me know what you think, I spent more time on this video than any other so far" ...I actually really appreciate the extra effort you put into this. This was my very first keyboard ever, circa 1987, and this video reminded me of my beginnings, and brought back great nostalgia of the beginning years. Thank you :)
Thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and glad it took you back :)
I payed £10
Great video! My PSS470 is one of my favourite instruments I own. Jazz Organ plus stereo symphonic plus vibrato sounds amazing, and you can change the timbre with the Modulation slider. Also the manual bass is awesome. I got mine for £5 in a junk shop, and spent the next couple of days cleaning out battery acid. The high A key is snapped in half, too, but it hasn’t stopped me writing on it a tonne. Watch the 8-Bit Keys video on the keyboard if you’re interested in learning about how this keyboard works, and why it’s such a strange instrument for the time.
I have since added a Zoom G1Xon.
I also use a Tascam 4 track recorder that I Received free with a guitar purchase back in 2006 at my local Guitar center. Kick ass set-up!
I can blow people away with this set-up
I run my PSS 470 through a Zoom 505 ll multi effects pedal connected to a Roland Micro Cube.
Special effects all day. Cheap! :)
These old vintage keyboards are much improved sounds wise via an EFX unit and honestly beef it up. I’ve had loads of different keyboards over the years. I’ve currently got a STUNNING Genos and others.
This was beautiful
I bought a PSS-570 this year and im very happy with it. The PSS-570 is a little bit advanced over the PSS470, but not by much. I do have a PSS-470 too but its broken now, because something did blow up sadly :/ ,anyway i found it on the street because someone wanted to throw it away, so it was for free.
Therotten Bug did U fix it?
@@bestrickie2 no unfortunately i couldn't do it. But like i wrote before did get the better version of it named PSS-570. The internal parts are only a little bit different ( few more parts and a little bit more advanced circuid like some capacitors and some other stuff the 470 could have and mybe can be soldered on ). The 470 lies arround and maybe i can fix it sometimes, or i can use some parts of it as spare for the 570.
I payed £10
As you’ll hear on the 570, the drum sounds are PCM and uses a separate sound chip from the sound chip. Where as the 470 is one sound chip for both drum and sounds. The digital synth on both models are very good for a portable keyboard. I’ve had both models in the past.
I payed £10 for one and thought why not. Also I like old stuff and this things nerely as old as Me.
Hey man, thanks for the video! How did you run the synth through the pedals and into your daw?
Hey! So I modified one of the speaker out puts to be a line output, the synth does have RCA outs so you can use an adapter and run that in to the pedals, from there its as simple as just using quarter inch jack cables into the pedals and then into whatever interface you are using for your Daw! hope this helps!
Just bought one for 6 bucks love it
Thank you! More please!
I have this Yamaha but also have a Mininova and was planning to record in the notes same as you but alot of time to do and might just be easier to make the sounds in a DAW like Reason.
Sorry, I can't understand why would you brake the case for a line out when you have line outs at the back. On top of that the stereo chorus is phenomenal.
May I please get your resources for the mod? Thank you!
Hi from Chile . Did you recording on the DAW in a Wave format or you pass the output analog to a Digital ? excelente Video .
Hi, I recorded into my DAW Ableton :)
Thank you!
sounds good!
Lol theres one on cash converters for 30 quid atm. Lovely jubbly
Wheres the link(?) to the speaker>mono mod? Couldnt one just connect one of the RCA out to a mono mixer channel or adapt a RCA-TRS cable perhaps. I just picked up a 470 and PSR36 - ExtFX make these FM synths instant AFX/BOC :D
Kinda a bit pountless as it's got a Jack on the back anyway.
Hello,
please, how to connect your piano to my laptop and use it on FL Studio.
Is there a special cable?
Thank you
So I am using an Audio Interface here, you can look into the Focusrite Scarlette series as a good interface. Pre-owned ones usually go for pretty cheap but using one of these will allow you to plug in various microphones and instruments into your DAW (Fl Studio). Do a bit of research and see if it is the right option for you before buying. Hope this helped and thanks for watching the video!
@@alexdudley4497 big thank you to you
Hey man does yours have a high pitch whine ? I have a 480 and i hear they have this problem. Thanks
Mine doesn't tend to have that issue. It could be the cables you are using or also maybe the power supply, those noises are usually down to electrical noise. Hope this helped!
@@alexdudley4497 thanks tried battery and power supply still persists.
@@yeoldmedic7572 I've got 2 and they both hiss a bit. Pretty sure it's not my cables. I add noise reduction in Audacity to reduce, but not entirely remove, the whine. I'm not too bothered about lo-fidelity so I just put up with it
Why not just use a mono cable?
Dónde puedo conseguir uno?
Ebay!
Anyone have a way or setting to make it sound like an actual piano
No. its a basic FM tone generator.
I found one for 8 dollars in a thrift store !
Nice! Hope you enjoy it
I have one
I just found one for 50bucks and Ravi Shankar album
I payed £10 for one in a charity shop, it's filthy needs a good clean.
