Thanks. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now. Didn't know I could control the zooming with it too. And having a spare battery is also a good idea. Very useful tips. Keep posting.
Great video BUT can you buy a phone holder mount for the main cradle as I have an iPhone 12 Pro max and when it is in its protective case the phone won’t fit. Yes I can take the phone out of its case but that means my phone is not protected
Great tips John. There are TH-cam videos showing how to connect a Zoom H1 into an iPhone, as a USB mic. Eliminates the need to sync a separate audio track in post.
+rdailey4 Since making this video DJI have now updated the app, in settings you can now disable mobile device detection. But you’ll need the business card there to get into the app first 👍🏼
Hi, good phone choice and it should work well with this gimbal. There is the version 2 out soon which is half the price of the model in this video. So it might be worth waiting for that.
Nice video mate, can I attach another phone to use as a second screen? For instance if I was using the rear camera of the first phone but wanted a second screen/monitor to see what the camera sees?
Hi, you live in a really nice place. I enjoyed your video and noticed the flicker/shaking when you are panning up or down. This could be caused by the phone not being balanced or calibrated correctly, or possibly if you are using a phone which has a stabilised lens, like the iPhone 7, it could be trying to correct the movements of the osmo.
Hi John. Thanks for your answer. I'm using a Samsung galaxy S5 with the DJI Osmo Mobile and APP. Ok I will try to stabilised it again. The place were I live is Wormer in The Netherlands about 15km from Amsterdam. And if you like see my youtube chanels. th-cam.com/users/vcmovie1 this is about firefighting. And th-cam.com/users/wormerthings this is about other things I like to do. Keep up the good work.
+Tom Zander If you open the video comment you’ll see the link to the products featured in the video. Most TH-camrs place the import details about the video in the comments section 👍🏼
Hey John. Great video. I'm curious if you can tell me what tripod you are using there at 6:16? It looks like a tripod for a light...and also can you tell me what that adapter is that you secure to the tripod and onto the side of the Osmo? Thanks!
+TheMouseCo If you view the comments section on this video & click the Amazon affiliate link to your country 👍 then search Small Light Stand you'll find this product 🤓 it comes with a 1/4 thread that fits into the Osmo.
www.amazon.ca/Miniature-Tabletop-Light-Camera-Photography/dp/B071NZ7GRB/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1503994938&sr=8-1&keywords=Small+Light+Stand This is what you need :)
Thank you for all the tips. Tip 4. The osmo handle 2 grooves are for the lanyard. If the lanyard is in place then the osmo will not be loose on the base.
It's working fine with ANDROID as well ....I have been using it with my new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and the videos are so stabilizing ...I tried Hyperlapse, Timelapse, M Timelapse, Slow motion and also super slowmotion, Panaromic photos....Samsung Galaxy Note 9 + DJI Osmo Mobile 2 = Ultimate videos...
Most TH-camrs put the details about their video in the section directly under the video, I know TH-cam are now changing the layouts, but the following link is already in this section. The part you mention is the Extension arm - amzn.to/2uhTlWB
Great video!!! Just bought my Osmo to use on a trip and now know what the perfect setup is going to be. I am hoping you put the links to the Lumicube, cheese plate and battery charger/batteries in the info. If not, please send info. Again, great vid!!!
Thanks for great tips. I also watched your video about Osmo plus. a bit confused. I have iphone 7+ and want buy osmo mobile not osmo plus, but read in some reviews that osmo mobile videos are shaky and not smooth, specially when walking you should use ninja techniice. Is it true? And you recommend me buy osmo plus or osmo mobile?
IF you watch just before the rode mic I show me using the Zoom H1, this can be used on it's own or you can use the Rode mic to record to the Zoom H1 and record your audio that way too.
Gadget John ok, just bought one yesterday due delivery tomorrow. Comes with an extra battery so hopefully it will live up to the hype. Thanks for the reply
Gadget John Gadget John ok, just bought one yesterday due delivery tomorrow. Comes with an extra battery so hopefully it will live up to the hype. Thanks for the reply
Ia there any problem related to DJI go app compatibility with Samsung s8 plus? And can the users just use the Built In Camera app of Samsung S8 plus? Thanks In advance
+risandi pradipto I use the S8+ and it works fine, however you can still use the built-in camera app with the DJI Osmo Mobile, however, you won't be able to use the buttons on the controller to move the gimbal or take video/photo.
Hey John, thanks for the reply. I'm completely new to external mobile stabalisation but am potentially in the market for the Osmo. I shot some video at the weekend handheld using my iPhone 8 and the footage is all over the place cos it was so damn windy! I guess I thought the wind would blow the Osmo around a bit. But if it doesn't, I'm one step closer to purchasing one! :)
+fizzywack The osmo mobile is good at holding the phone steady, however it might not work too well with the iPhone 8 as it has a stabilised camera already. Watch out for me review of a new stabiliser in a week. It's much cheaper than the osmo and can work with the iPhone stabilised lens.
When it shows the tripod and osmo you can simply set it up to be at a right angle to then film vertically, or simply turn it to 90 degrees with your hand and the gimbal will then change to vertical mode.
Just saw one of these for sale second hand and thought - Gadget John is sure to have a video on it if its any good, so I can easily find out if its worth me buying - looks like its a good option for me to use with my iPhone. Great video as always - Cheers :-)
Thanks so much! The business card tricked worked for my space gray color iPhone 8. It's maddening that DJI designed their sensor the way they did! I was ready to return this damn thing to the store, haha.
+unhwildcat333 They introduced an option under settings in their app so you can now disable the sensor. I guess my video made them see how the sensor could easily mess things up for users.
I was really disappointed when I didn’t have a place to put my tripod in and you showed me where it was! That’s awesome I didn’t know about the zoom function either but I just got it tonight
You're the best! Thanks for getting back to me. I've just taken a V1 Osmo Mobile out of the box and its much different to my Zhiyun Smooth-Q (which is cooked). I'd assume it's up for a few updates.
The Original Osmo Mobile is brilliant, much better quality than the V2 and the Smooth Q. Updates are frequent with DJI and for most of the time they are easy and quick. You'll love it though :)
+Bridie Macdonald Thanks, the Amazon links are to the products I have purchased, I am unable to find the same products in all countries around the world and then link each country. It's a real shame amazon can't just suggest the same product in each viewers country.
I have the iPhone X and bought the dji osmo mobile since I heard it works but when I got it, it didn’t stabilize then i came around this and the business card or receipt thing. Tried it literally just a few minutes ago but nothing seems to work ): is there a way that the dji osmo work with the iPhone X
In the new DJI Go App you can disable device detection, this works much better than the old business card trick. Have you adjusted the arm to balance the device as best as possible before you switch it on?
That's explained in the video description already, this video was made a long time ago and when the video was made the tape trick didn't work. You don't even need tape now, you can disable the sensor.
I love Tips No.4!! I've been stuck thinking how am i going to mount to my tripod or monopod w/ tripod. You just save me $70! Dont even have to buy the tripod mini ball head which i cant find anywhere near my place
If you tape the business card in permanently and the Osmo gets switched on accidentally whilst packed in luggage for example, you risk burning out the motors as it will assume there's a phone installed and will try to orient itself.
+Jim Strange You'd have to leave it on for a few hours like that before you burnt out the motors, anyway if you read my pinned post you'll see there's an updated option within the software to disable the sensor. Unfortunately TH-cam does not let you add text to published videos so I have no way to update this old video.
Fair enough! I was only repeating what I'd read and seen elsewhere - similar warnings also on starting up the Mavic Pro without removing the gimabl lock. :-)
That doesn’t work as the sensor has to detect something at a set distance, however, if you look at the pinned comment you’ll see in the new app you can disable the sensor.
You're wrong. The reflectivity - or the "whiteness" - of the phone has nothing to do with the gimbal working. I use my shiny BLACK iPhone X on my Osmo Mobile without any issues. What was quite clear, is that you just threw the phone onto the gimbal without any attempt to balance the phone before turning on the Osmo Mobile. ALL, and I mean ALL, motorized gimbals ask you to balance the camera/phone on the gimbal so its relatively level BEFORE turning on the gimbal and calibrating it. Oh yea, you have to calibrate it. Which is why you balance it first, so that you give the gimbal a baseline to work off of. THUMBS DOWN. You spent the first 2-3 minutes going over an "issue" that is NOT an issue. Stopping video now.
Strange how thousand of people have said otherwise, you’re so wrong about all your points!!! Phone was balanced fine. But thanks for your comments, at least I earn some money from you 👍🏼
Thanks. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now. Didn't know I could control the zooming with it too. And having a spare battery is also a good idea. Very useful tips. Keep posting.
Device detection is now a software feature you can disable within DJI Go, no need for the business card any more.
How do you disable it in the software? I can't find it in my DJI Go app.
very helpful thanks. i couldnt find any help online for this.
trigger to zoom in and out really new to me. thanks John.
Great video BUT can you buy a phone holder mount for the main cradle as I have an iPhone 12 Pro max and when it is in its protective case the phone won’t fit. Yes I can take the phone out of its case but that means my phone is not protected
SIMPLE AND BEST . Your explanation and tone of voice is absolutely brilliant
Thank you so much for your comment. You made my day :)
great info , i want this shoe mount pls guide where to find on ali express and this base too thankyu
Brilliant John - as usual 🎉😊
Great tips John. There are TH-cam videos showing how to connect a Zoom H1 into an iPhone, as a USB mic. Eliminates the need to sync a separate audio track in post.
This is a really old video. I’ve got more recent videos covering improving audio on smartphone videos 👍🏼
Awesome, I learned something new today, and we are so excited. We had no idea about the zoom function, Thank you so much for sharing.
Brilliant video. I have the Osmo for 1 year now too.
You just solved a problem I have been fighting for the last few months. Thanks for the business card idea. All is good now.
+rdailey4 Since making this video DJI have now updated the app, in settings you can now disable mobile device detection. But you’ll need the business card there to get into the app first 👍🏼
Thanks again, right you are.
Thanks. Just got an iPhone 8 plus. Thinking to buy this stabilizer. Great video. Would you recommend it?
Hi, good phone choice and it should work well with this gimbal. There is the version 2 out soon which is half the price of the model in this video. So it might be worth waiting for that.
Great video can you please print the name of all the accessories and gadgets you use?
They are all in the video description.
That was some great useful practical tips. Thanks for that.
Nice video mate, can I attach another phone to use as a second screen? For instance if I was using the rear camera of the first phone but wanted a second screen/monitor to see what the camera sees?
The Mobile is the screen and the camera. This device won't do what you asked.
Gadget John thanks for the quick reply. I think a work around may be using smart view to mirror the phone's screen onto a monitor via Chromecast .
Good idea, let me know if that works.
Hey John, quick update, it works fine.
I’m a new user of the DJI Osmo Mobile and this video was very very helpful. Thank you!!
+Eszter V Thanks 🤓
Hi John, a totally off-the-subject question. Where did you get that great world wall map. Love it.
+Brian Medway It's a great alternative map, here you go - amzn.to/2v6ISwU
Nice video and instruments.
Thank you very much.
Great video and use full tips John. But what can Ido about flickering in my video"s ??
Hi, you live in a really nice place. I enjoyed your video and noticed the flicker/shaking when you are panning up or down. This could be caused by the phone not being balanced or calibrated correctly, or possibly if you are using a phone which has a stabilised lens, like the iPhone 7, it could be trying to correct the movements of the osmo.
Hi John. Thanks for your answer.

Great video. What is the light you are using in the video to attach with the adaptor?
+Satheesh Gopalan Hi, the description has links to everything, the light is called a Lume Cube.
Great tips. I can't seem to find the "Lume Cube" you mentioned as a lighting accessory to the Osmo Mobile. Did I misunderstand or get the name wrong?

Gadget John man... I want to get this but they don’t deliver to USA?! Do you have any other source?
Thank you for all the tips. Tip 4. The osmo handle 2 grooves are for the lanyard. If the lanyard is in place then the osmo will not be loose on the base.
Thanks for your comment, the little strap gets in the way too much so I always remove it, which then makes the base a very loose fit.
Hi just came across your channel brilliant information i have also just payed for Osmo Mobil looking forward to using it on movie mode
I now have the OSMO 4 it’s nice 👌
great video, great tips and great wallpaper .
Hey,good video, but can't you put the mic aux into osmo aux charge port!? Best regards,JL
+Jan-Luka Krusic No, on the osmo mobile the port is for charging only.
Gadget John what about DJI Osmo FM 15?
+Jan-Luka Krusic As I said, it’s to charge only.
Gadget John thanks man. i have Huawei Nexus 6p,can i put the mics aux in the aux port on the phone?
great video! thanks for the help!
Thank you for the backphone texture detection problem! i thought my osmo was broken! so happy! thanks
Thanks for taking the time to make this. great help!

Can you stick a mic on the top?
+The Bros There's nothing to mount a Mic too and the gimbal motors are not string enough even if you could.
Thank ou very very much for this video you helped me about 3 weeks i search for a solution
Superb vid well done JON
Hi sir, what is the name of adaptor that you attach at the back of lume cube?
It is a mini ball joint hot shoe adaptor - amzn.to/2uioMQQ
Great tip bud thanks!!

Yes, if you buy the extra batteries and charger - links are in the video description.
Gadget John Thank you

The iPhone 7 doesn't work well with the DJI Osmo Mobile, try another gimbal like the Zhiyun M
hey John, you are using a Rode Video Mic Pro, could you explain what you use to in combination to record it?
IF you watch just before the rode mic I show me using the Zoom H1, this can be used on it's own or you can use the Rode mic to record to the Zoom H1 and record your audio that way too.
Thanks so much for the quick response! Keep up the great work!
Thank you about the tips. I surely would have struggled since i have a an iPhone 7 Diamond Black.
Great video thank you, I’m looking to buy one of these and this kind of video is helping my decision. 👍🏽
Some great tips, thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing! Super informative Osmo Mobile creative hack demonstration video creation congratulations too! Good day!
👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️
May I ask something please John? I use a Mavic Pro & the Osmo Mobile. Since they updated the APP (DJI Go 4) I can no longer get it to see the Osmo?
+Martin Lynch For the Osmo you need the "DJI Go for products before P4" app. 👍
Thank you John, top guy. Works a treat. Subscribed too.... :)
Can you run the osmo through an electricity mains?
No, there is no way to charge and use it at the same time.
Gadget John ok, just bought one yesterday due delivery tomorrow. Comes with an extra battery so hopefully it will live up to the hype. Thanks for the reply

Thanks :) It's the S8+

I'm thinking of getting one of these devices but am wondering how effective they are if it's windy. Are you basically screwed?
+fizzywack Wind wouldn't affect it at all, what made you think it would?
Hey John, thanks for the reply. I'm completely new to external mobile stabalisation but am potentially in the market for the Osmo. Realy great tips
How do i use it on vertical / portrait mode with a stand or tripod?
Watch this video th-cam.com/video/ieoQuBM1i3c/w-d-xo.html
Gadget John wow cool thanks!!
Gadget John watched it but doesnt say how to take videos vertically :(
When it shows the tripod and osmo you can simply set it up to be at a right angle to then film vertically, or simply turn it to 90 degrees with your hand and the gimbal will then change to vertical mode.
Gadget John ok thanks

I was really disappointed when I didn’t have a place to put my tripod in and you showed me where it was! That’s awesome I didn’t know about the zoom function either but I just got it tonight
awesome trick with the business card. Thank you so much!
you do not have to put a hole card in to it, it's enough to wrap the sensor with a black insulated tape
I can't believe you solved my issue in the first hint. Thanks for making this. Silly iPhone 8+!
You can now turn off device detection within the DJI go app, but the card is much easier 👍🏼
You're the best! Thanks for getting back to me.

I have no idea, I don't have that phone. Maybe check the DJI website.
Very helpful thanks

Great tips m8, thanks!

tip 5, not exactly a tip right? you just needed the 5th tip. lol Absolutely love tip 1 and 2 thought! thumbs up
I have osmo and the base
That is for the wrist strap
(Tip 1) It works perfectly with my iPhone X, which has similar back panel as Samsung Note8
In this device there is no connection of the smartphone to the tablet so Osmo does not fit.
+Артур Макогончук You connect via Bluetooth from your smartphone to the gimbal. Then use the DJI go app.
u need to ballance your gimbal before using it
+xraydog2011 Great tip 👍🏼
The battery actually lasts for about 3 hours or more.
Sadly not, that’s why I suggest to have multiple batteries.
All u have to do is put tape over the sensor not a business card
+Tech life In the new app you can now disable the sensor.
It is because it is an android lol. It always worked fine with my iphone 7Plus black shinny.
Please...translate,
just put some tape over the sensor so it doesent look sloppy
That doesn’t work as the sensor has to detect something at a set distance, however, if you look at the pinned comment you’ll see in the new app you can disable the sensor.
well yea but i have the gimbal and i was using it with tape covering it i was just saying thats how i did it
instead of using a business card just tape off the sensor. You can thank me later XD
Read the video comments as there’s now a better fix for this, but you can’t tape up the sensor as it needs to see something at the correct distance.
Actually you can. You just need to use non translucent tape. Using it right now. Did not knew about the device detection tho.
These sensors must be so bad they even prefer a type of tape too 😎
Lol
