100% agree with Nima - Locatelli NEEDS to be in this team. He has so much to offer, even as a rotation player. His influence on the Euro 2020 win was underated!
Lots of great commentary here, boys. My go to podcast. The best thing said was Nima saying we had an identity again. Just right on the mark. We had flow, looked organized and exceedingly sharp. So proud!
Under Allegri, chiesa played in the 2, not as a wing back. As a wing back I don’t rate him and is wasted doing too much defending. He can do a job as a second striker but he prefers to drift wide and not stay centrally.. Raspadori is best suited in that position but chiesa is a better player, so it will be interesting to see if Spalletti finds a way to incorporate him in the starting 11. Just please just don’t play Pellegrini upfront. He’s too slow.
@@Sanjos94good points. I do think Pellegrini played well enough because his touch and intelligence is so good, he dropped in to overload the midfield. Remember Totti at World Cup 06? He wasn’t fast either but played a similar role. As for Chiesa, I hope he finds his feet at Liverpool to work his way back into the Azzurri. Yes true he is not really suited as a second striker but the overall system works best so I think he would need to play there for Italy.
@@gabr131s I agree with your points. I would love to see chiesa start in that role even though he isn’t suited. I am French and I am still pissed off 2 days later. Shameful display and Deschamps needs to go. Good on Italy and my Milan's former Sandro Tonali was excellent. Maybe he didn't bet on the outcome of this match ;)
Pleasant surprise. As far as i have followed Italy, they never have put such a dominant show so early in d season in Sep. Even against minnows we used to play badly in Sep. Tonali was the difference maker. Barella, Scalvini & Scamacca would complete this team soon🇮🇹 Pellegreni is out of form, should be replaced by new players like Baldanzi, Pafundi.
@@w1572w would be exciting to see Baldanzi or Pafundi in this team. Otherwise I would like to see Coplani, Orsolini, or Liberali considered. Would be keen to see any of those tested as the second striker (incidentally they are all left footed players)

I love your Azzurri content. You both bring up really good points. And I like many others was pleasantly surprised at our performance. I hope this is the start of something great and we can achieve some consistently.
Amazing win!! The system needs to be locked in now, and continue to build from here. Pellegrini and Raspadori show they can play that second striker role well, and Retegui did his job well, great assist for the Frattesi goal. (Frattesi did great too, Inzaghi needs to pay attention!) Overall I was most impressed by the performances of Ricci and Tonali. But again so solid from Bastoni & Calafiori. Cambiaso played so intelligently as Nima said. Being predominantly left footed but able to play so solidly as a right winger, it’s a joy to watch. I’m so glad to see Dimarco shine when he is played in his proper position, and the one touch team goal was so glorious, what a finish by Dimarco. As for France, they were underwhelming and we all know they can do better, there must be pressure piling up on Deschamps now because he doesn’t look to be getting the best out of the talent available. I think Thuram should be the target man with Mbappe playing of his shoulder. Udogie showing he is great and showing how versatile he is. Yes he subbed on as a mezzala in the 62nd minute but later he moved to left wing when Brescianini came on. For the next game against Israel, I reckon Fagioli Brescianini Udogie and Bellanova should start. The players should be rotated to avoid any injuries but also to give others a chance to shine and integrate into the system. In the future I wouldn’t mind seeing Orsolini brought in as an impact sub, I think he could play as a second striker in this system. Also think Rovella could be considered still as another CDM option

Surprising superb performance by our boys. I’ve watched so much post match analysis from the pundits and a great amount just rips France and doesn’t credit Italy.
With the way Arsenal uses its fullbacks, Calafiori playing Left back for them will end up benefitting Italy..and so will his decision to leave Serie A. None of this staying in Italy stuff
If Italy could somehow unearth a quick strong CF like Osihmen or Thuram playing alongside Chiesa or Raspadori (hopefully Liberalli one day) then this system could really work. Defence, wingbacks and midfield look pretty good otherwise.
It was a great result, performance, and very encouraging going forwards. That said, it's only one game. Spalletti has it in him to try and be too clever at times; overloading his players and constant tinkering. I still don't understand what he sees in Di Loremzo (at CB) and what his problem is with Locatelli, who would thrive in this new system which will give him license to push forward. Overall though it's a very encouraging time, moreso when you consider the quality of young players (Liberalli, Camrarda and many others) coming through.
Ricci is awesome! Italy at all was awesome! I didn't even recognised them. This team only needs Locatelli,Zaniolo,Chiesa,Barella back. But for me Italy need to produce another right back as an alternative for Di Lorenzo(I can't see this guy wearing this jersey anymore. ) he did well in the euro 2020,but Spalletti needs to think about other options like Bellanova or Calabria. P.S.: Pellegrini is a good player, but is very slow. Baldanzi or Zaniolo can play there too ,I think.

It really doesnt. You might want to listen again to everything in context. If you still dont get it then it's one of them things, agree to disagree and that
obviously a big victory for italy, especially for their moral, that they can play with the best teams in the world. However this is "only" the Nations League and at the beginning of the season when many players are not in form yet. france is also a bit in decline as we saw at the Euros where they really didn't impress and it may be close to the end of the Deschamp era. Tonali however gives Italy along with the return of Barella and i agree also Locatelli the makings of a solid midfield for the future and of course this is the key to winning soccer matches. Califiori continues to impress ( maybe the next Cabrini?) and Bastoni is also solid in defense. The next step of course is as you say consistency
Donnarumma, Darmian, Buongiorno, Bastoni, Cambiaso, Barella, Tonali, Calafiori, Dimarco, Retegui, Scamacca. Yes, Calafiori as a fake central midfielder just because I don't like Pellegrini's style of play and I don't like to see Bastoni playing in the centre 😅 And one more thing, DARMIAN deserves the place than Di Lorenzo; at least for the next 12 months. To add onto the Di Lorenzo convo. Go back and watch Croatia and Switzerland's 2nd goal vs us in the Euros. Both times Di Lorenzo is stuck in mud and falling asleep. He does not sense danger and is very lazy. That French goal is completely unacceptable and Conte is not going to fix these instincts of a 31 year old man. It is time to move on from Spalletti's son!
Di Lorenzo and Pellegrini should be benched. I prefer Udogie and Bellanova over Dimarco and Cambiaso as they will take on their defenders. Tonali was so missed and Ricci looks special.
