How do you bake in prepping your cards for grading? I’ve never received a PSA 10 that I’ve submitted myself. In the current market, a PSA 9 barely does the same as the raw card. What do you do with slabs that don’t grade PSA 10?
I'm curious how this video follows from the video you had a couple months ago about whether it is still profitable to grade cards in 2024. Short answer: do think it makes sense to buy lots of raw cards and get them graded?
Wait till you get into graded comics when PSA starts grading them soon, i hear it could be in Dec. You don't even need to move them as fast because the comic character can't have a season ending injury. My best flip so far was buying some low print run indy Taylor Swift comics presale for 20 got them graded at CGC flipped them for 350 each on Ebay in a couple weeks, BIN. Had a newer Punisher book I paid 50 graded at CGC, sold for 200 in less than 48 hours on Ebay. I got some numbered Marvel Platinum, Basketball & Football cards back from PSA today. I try to stick to numbered and autos of lesser players, can't afford the big boys yet. Great channel.
Tyler short is refreshing! I have the same approach also. I just need a biggee bankroll but its ok slow and steady wins the race. Im using psa vault atm Thoughts?
PSA vault is good for liquid cards b/c its auction only. Each auction on PSA vault is $5 each before they take a percentage cut from each sale so you need to make sure the cards you buy and grade in a PSA 9 or PSA 10 will be profitable after grading. Ebay profit calculator is a good starting point to see how much you need to sell cards for a profit.
This is insane, especially the prediction part you shared. Congrats, man. I went back and watched your earlier referenced video and there's a ton of value there as well. I'm curious if you've ever taken any money out since starting your flipping and grading, or has it all been reinvested back into cards to keep the snowball growing to get to $100k in sales last month?
I am with you, "Investing" in cards is NOT the same as investing in general. I buy and flip like this, but I do it to buy the cards I WANT regardless of where it might go.
Does your profit contain the cost of penny sleeves, semi-ridged's, hard sleeves, cost to mail for grading, insurance costs for grading, envelopes, mailers, tape, postage, fees and most importantly your time to do all this. Don't remember seeing this in the video.
Yes, and on $500,000 on sales, that’s marginal. Oh it also doesn’t include the 3.3% cash back I get for the credit card I use so you can boost the ROI by that factor. I prefer not to include so as to not pad my stats
@@TylerShortGreat content, thank you for making these videos! Curious what card does 3.3% cash back or if you’re referring to that’s the value you receive (such as using Hyatt CC where 1 point is easily over 3% when you book Park Hyatt Sydney lol).
Without a doubt your best video you have ever put out. I knew everything you already said and have been doing exactly the same as you just alot smaller scale by choice I have many other revenue streams. I will say unless you're buying ultra modern cards buying to grade on ebay it's a losing model too much junk is being put up for auction because it won't grade out you're speculating on other people's damaged cards just too big of a headache with all the returns I was dointlg.

It's much better to look at ROI by order, by year, and aggregately over the time I have been doing this. If you search around you'll see where I review what this looks like.
Do you think for someone that doesn’t have a whole lot of money but has inherited a bunch of never touched cards is better off to sell them graded or ungraded?

Do you sell all your cards now or do you still do consignment also? I started doing mostly grade to co-sign with a company. I know sometimes I’d be able to get more if I sold it myself but the convenience of not having to deal with the eBay buyer is worth it to me
I ditched the consignors mainly because in 2022 auctions were getting killed. Now, in order to really maintain a decent ROI, I have to sell everything on my own. The consigners, although they have to be paid for their service, unfortunately you just don't get enough since everything is auctioned.
What's your process for buying raw? Of all the raws I've bought on eBay, I've had maybe 1 that I deemed worthy of grading. All of them have some sort of very minor issue when you closely pre-grade them.

I've owned a business in the trades since 2006 that does very well for me..... But I started doing this exact thing 4 years ago. With my profits from going raw to grade I bought 2.5 acres of land in a very high traffic tourist area and am in the middle of a 2,000 square foot cabin build to use as an air bnb..... all from going raw to grade & selling back to collectors. I started out small (30 card subs).... Now, my subs are usually several 100 cards at a time. The 10s pay for the order & shipping. Everything after that is profit. I only sub highly collectible, sought after players - and a LOT of Marvel & DC/Non-Sports. Typically these guys are done playing. This makes me enough per month that I ended up hiring a guy at $800/week to just grade, sub, and ship for me. This guy nailed it as far as how & when to work... But if you LIKE doing it.... it's not really work.
I also think of the millions Tyler should be making through internet marketing / selling courses. These free videos are by far some of the best I've seen.
Good stuff. You have to be dedicated, understand business, educate yourself and be disciplined which probably 90% of those trying to make money fail because they don't have the four forementioned principles within them. They involve themselves in the gamble, whether it be ripping wax, prospecting terrible players, grading the wrong cards or buying repacks which takes away from their R.O.I.
100%. Everyone can do this. I am a legit idiot haha. If I can do it anyone can do it. But too many are watching tiktok, IG, their favorite YT influencer and their latest top 10 list, and they get suckered into throwing their money away. Not to mention the insanely small EVs that ripping wax produces now and how so many are burning their money by buying into breaks like scratch off lottery tickets. If folks just remained disciplined, in any market, turn the news off, turn off the circus and clowns, just be disciplined, they would have a great outcome.
@@TylerShort Bro, you are absolutely not a legit idiot. You have to be smart for what your 9-5 is and having a mind that is constantly working to improve itself with self-education is a difficult task. I have a business degree and consider myself a smart guy but I can't apply the business principles to the card world.
Good video nice stats. The secret is just math and common sense. Get highest gem rates on stroud wemby Jordan Kaitlin ohtani and sell at scale. But to get there takes years of practice pricing quoting listing post offices etc etc I’m trying to skip the peasant version have it all go straight from psa to their eBay Sunday ending 99 cent 1 week auctions but not going great lol. My problems are always gem rate low and tough to scale to thousands of Slabs with full time exhausting careers but this is a hot time to sell. Tried comc too after fees I sold thosuands of inserts parallel numbered autos and it’s averaging like $3 a card. Pretty terrible as well. 😢😢😢. Next year will have to get sales tax exempt cert and go big start to end of 2025
Your monthly sales are higher than your yearly salary, why will you still have a full time job? You just dnt add up to me, have watched u before and u always come off that ways.
Your numbers are off and you aren’t paying close enough attention. Don’t worry, I’ll do videos explaining what I actually do in my real job and whether it’s worth quitting. $100k in sales is not profit. It’s gross. There is a margin called “operating margin.” Both gross sales and operating margin are growing…linearly. This is not hard to figure out. And why would I quit a job that pays well (you can google what the average RPh makes…I’m above it), when I can manage both? Cards don’t pay for health insurance. Cards don’t provide a 401k although they do provide a SEP IRA which I could open tomorrow. Cards don’t offer a match. Cards don’t pay me for 30 vacation/holiday days or a salary for weekends not worked. It’s called a side hustle for a reason. Cards could disappear tomorrow. The job I paid $216,000 for and spent 12 years earning credentials allowing me to work said job isn’t going away…at least not in the next 5 years
Appreciate the elaborate reply, with 32% profit u made over 28k in august or 300k yearly, which surely will be morr than day job including benefits even after taxes, hence i asked why work as u spent more time in hobby than work and hobby can use even more time to increase sales. You increasing avg sales price to get more revenue but time is limited and so is inventory at that range hence i think this will be peak but more importantly it is difficult to sustain due to burn out unless u get someone help. All the best hopefully you can quit in 5 years.
It adds up to me. I imagine one day Tyler will quit his job and make most of his money in a way that's related to sports cards. However, with his education and work ethic, it is likely more wise to keep the day job for now since he's able to do everything at the same time. (I'm a serial entrepreneur, but money comes at goes. If he quit, sure he might make millions here and experience luxuries his coworkers never will... but in the long run the steady worker, consistently able to fund their retirement account, etc, could end up better off while he could end up with millions in debt. There's pros and cons to everything!
I respect the grind but this strategy cant last. The grading premium bs while die off sooner or later. Whos buying these millions of graded cards each month? Like seriously they have to go somewhere
Not to mention the principle that without a "moat" preventing competition, if there is profit to be made competition will grow until that profit no longer exists. You note over and over how easy it is for anyone to do, that's really bad for longer term sustainability.

Not sure how old you are and this isn't professional advice.. but the best thing you could probably hear is "you only live once." Doesn't matter if you have kids and bills, many people have worked fast food for a couple weeks, quit, and 30 days later make 6+ figures a year. Again, not professional advice, but when you burn all bridges (your day job), your chance of success in any business significantly increases compared to everyone else who's just messing around watching videos on how to make money and not taking action!

This makes me enough per month that I ended up hiring a guy at $800/week to just grade, sub, and ship for me.
This guy nailed it as far as how & when to work... But if you LIKE doing it.... it's not really work.
To think people pay some absolute doofuses for sports cards histoe content while Tyler just casually drops knowledge bombs for free
I also think of the millions Tyler should be making through internet marketing / selling courses. These free videos are by far some of the best I've seen.
So… you don’t have kids?😅
You could double this by just buying a Jordan rookie card PSA 10 and selling it every month
Got to have money to make money!
In August of 2018, I had a net worth of -$190,000. That is correct, a negative sign in front of that number. Just putting things in perspective.
It is easy to borrow money and use it. Just make sure you are smart and work hard.
Hard work pays off
Truly amazing job ❤
Appreciate the 🔥 video real inspiring
Just subbed bro I’m ready to make money and not buy just raiders and Georgia bulldogs 😂
Buy the best players. Buy the wanted cards. Grade the card. Sell it. That’s the math.
I am agree about short profits instead fo big hits
What is your profit? Revenues - Expenses (Cost of Goods Sold). Good luck in 2024/2025 with fewer buyers. Don’t quit your day job!🤣
😢😢😢. Next year will have to get sales tax exempt cert and go big start to end of 2025
Great info. Ty
You took a lot of schooling, wow! 🏆
Pattie$$$$$ Go Chiefs!!!
When psa shut down. I had to go Sgc!
Why on earth r u wasting ur time with a side hustle when ur a pharmacist? Oh man this world would be different if everyone wasn’t so money hungry lmao
You sound silly. You need multiple streams of income in this economy.
@@Midnight65883 not if ur a pharmacist lmao.
Thanks for sharing
Sad thing about eBay is if you sell 100k you’ll only get to take home like $27 😂
This made me snort, I laughed so hard... so sad. So true... 😔
You could make it $2m a month by quitting your job
I respect the grind but this strategy cant last. The grading premium bs while die off sooner or later. Whos buying these millions of graded cards each month? Like seriously they have to go somewhere
Not to mention the principle that without a "moat" preventing competition, if there is profit to be made competition will grow until that profit no longer exists. You note over and over how easy it is for anyone to do, that's really bad for longer term sustainability.
You're busy responding racist comments to customers. Your screenshots are making the rounds.
Toot your own horn much? There were some good tips here but did come off as bragging. Glad you love the hobby though, it’s so much fun but the way you put it makes it sound too much like a job
If you work at McDonald’s you can’t do this 😂 he’s a pharmacist and has so much more capital than most people. Dudes a hustler and he’s out here killing it!
That’s true, but I think even he started small and built up to where he’s at today. Just scale at a pace that’s attainable for your situation. Good luck to all!
Literally waffle. Don't watch
The IRS is gonna love this video come April.
Bs
BS, it does in fact stink. Am I right?
@@TylerShort 100k a month is bs js
You’re right, I made that screen capture in Canva. It’s all fake, you got me 🙄 the funny thing is all of these sales are public. You can literally go to my store and search sold listings in that date range and try to disprove me. But no, you are lazy, and it’s easier for you to say “not possible” and eat more Oreos. So you do you, I’ll keep doing me 💪
Whole lot of nothing was said in this video. You are the equivalent to Brian Griffin. Chat GPT video
