I was too creeped-out to finish this game as a kid, only renting it a couple times from a local shop, but its melodies were so undeservedly good that they're still stuck in my head decades later. You did a fantatic job bringing them back to life and rekindling some old memories!
@@88bit I just wanted to say, I'm an NES musician, and your delay technique is exactly how we do it with chiptune - Square 1 plays the main melody, and Square 2 plays the echo, usually 1 quarter note after and about 60% lower - the only thing is that we also have to put in a fine-pitch command to shift the echo a fraction sharp or flat, in order to prevent pitch-clashing (when the NES plays 2 pitches that are 100% the same, they make an awful buzzing under the note). But I imagine doing it in real-time, with your hands probably took a lot of coordination and practice. You make it look easy.
@@InstantTrain ah, you are! Very cool, just checked out some of your stuff and subscribed. :) I've studied the sound files and also dabbled in tracker programs and recreating chiptune sounds. And yeah, this is my understanding as well. I didn't really know about sharping the echo note though! That makes sense! I did use vibrato which is also effective. And thank you. Yes, manually creating a delay has taken a lot of work to make convincing. :)
Really tremendous job! At the time when this game was new, I'd never have imagined there'd be thousands and thousands of fans who loved this music like I did. It was just video game music, right? This is a really classy rendition you've done here with a great visual atmosphere.
After a fair bit of work I finally figured out the “Jason is defeated” grove. Bravo on the cabin theme. I think that one is way above my skill level. Fantastic work. I will check out more of your stuff.
heck yeah! Isn't that "Jason Defeated" theme super cool? And I think with a little work you can get the Cabin Theme! It's not as difficult as it may seem and sounds totally fine without the delay effect (as you can hear at 0:59).
All of that was great. Fantastic even. Bravo 👏 However one of the things that got me was when you put in the "children are being attacked" sound in. Also your hands were flying on the "cabin" song

ah, that's the goal! thank you! ☺️
"Use the torch to light the fireplaces." is the single worse piece of advice ever given.
Man, you made the Cabin Theme so haunting. This is just so professional and tight. Bravo
it IS haunting! all those diminished chords and chromatic descending voice leading. It's just oozing lower and lower. And thank you ☺️

Any sheet music available for this yet?
I’ve been meaning to finish writing this out. Thank you for the nudge. :)
This video is a lie. No one knows what the song sounds like when Jason is defeated. It's never happened before.
