    After putting led strip lights up I'd never even think off getting another fluorescent light with the flickering tubes when cold and the constant replacing them having to get rid of the bad tubes.

  • @geezer2tech154
    @geezer2tech154 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Long tube lights are not obsolete. The advantage of longer or larger lights is that the light is more diffuse with softer shadows. In fact, one of the reviews at Amazon complains of harsh shadows with only 3 of these lights. Because you used 6 lights and your walls are white and highly reflective, you're getting a softer light due to overlap and additional reflected light. Note that the CRI of these lights is 70. Color rendition will be mediocre. LED manufacturers can choose between higher output of lower quality light versus lower output of higher quality light. As with most things, there is no free lunch. One person also notes in the reviews that the model has been cheapened compared to its predecessor. Not to rain on your parade as these lights may be perfect in some applications, like yours, I presume.

      leds are also much harder on the eyes, our maintenance crew changed from tube lights to leds during covid and I started getting migraines daily and eyes twitching I'm probably in the minority but something to be aware of.

From my estimation between 50-100 lumens per square foot on the lower and upper end. Appreciate any input. Thank you, CH

    I bought my shop LED lights way back, I love it at first, my wife hated it - too bright for her. Any way then it start fading and falling. Too expensive to scrap it, I decided to fix it. I was changing leds a lot. Finally threw them away. Reliability is HUGE factor for shop lights and only time could show are they good or bad. Should I follow this guy advice? He looks exactly like me when I turn switch ON first time. I hope he didn't wasted his money. Or, btw, on the second set I bought it took about a year for plastic cover get yellowish like hell, so half of light loosed. Now it's without cover, doesn't look as pretty as it used to. Close to ugly I would say.

    Couple of questions... My 30x56x12 building should be installed later this month (September '21) and WAS leaning towards the 'ol 4' lights, not now.... What size is room are you lighting in this video? Also, can you do a video on the electric? I've heard different things on electric, and it may very state to state, but could you possibly touch on it in a video? I see a few questions on here. Can't wait for my garage/workshop!
    BTW - not seeing a military branch flag.... 😉 I'm prior/proud Air Force, my son is active... I'm just assuming you're active in some branch.

    Hello, I see this video is two years old now but I’m curious to how you mounted the waterproof electrical boxes to the steel siding for the gooseneck lights. I want to add the same lights to my new building but there’s no structure behind where I need to mount the boxes. I assume you had to add some backing to the steel siding to support the box and the weight of the light. I’m thinking I’ll run a 2x6 between the verticals to provide enough surface to screw the box to with a hole drilled through the 2x6 to accommodate the 1/2” conduit connector fitted to the back of the box.

    • @PatriotDIY
      @PatriotDIY  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      My building does have a stud centered above my windows and door so that wasn't an issue in my shop, but what you are describing sounds like it would work just fine! Use brackets to mount a 2x6 between the metal studs to provide the support you need.

    My 20x30 shop with a 12x20 lean-to was just completed a couple days ago. I'm in the process of sealing corners and roof line as you did with expanding foam. My only regret is that I had it built on my gravel pad and not concrete. Any suggestions on how to seal that bottom rail on gravel? I'm thinking the only way is to dig under the rail and pour concrete.

    • @wheelinndealin
      @wheelinndealin ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don’t think you’ll have any luck dealing to gravel because the water is going to travel throughout that material no matter what you do. I would plan to pour a slab in the future
