At his time RVD was a relentless finisher, possibly the best finisher in the world, just an absolutely world-class striker, but United became a better team after selling him and forming that lethal, much more mobile and hard-working front 3 with Cristiano Tevez and Rooney. Tevez replacing RVD allowed Ronaldo to have less defensive duties and it resulted in one of the best front 3's ever
The modern forward has more duties except just scoring and RVD never really excelled at any other aspects of the game, which eventually lead to him having insane numbers even in the Champions League but United never reaching real European glory with him in the lineup. Personally, I wouldn't put him in the top 10 strikers ever, but he was incredibly efficient.

Hamburg fan here. You mentioned, that the year in Hamburg wasn't such an important one and of course overall you're right. But there is one match no Hamburg fan will ever forget. It was against Stuttgart, van Nistelrooy was only transferred recently. I was sitting in a bar, watching the multicast stream and suddenly you hear the commentator from Stuttgart shouting "GOOOAL IN STUTTGART". Scene switched to the arena in Stuttgart and you could see van Nistelrooy cheering after he scored the 2:1. The replay showed he needed only one touch. He was playing as a substitute only for 10 minutes until he scored. The scene switches again to some other match, and only 90 seconds later the commentator from Stuttgart again shouting "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL". And everyone in the bar knew immediately van Nistelrooy had scored again. Everyone knew it. Before the TV channel even switched to the match in Stuttgart, you could hear "haha, this guy is the king!" and stuff like this.
And well, he again scored with only one touch in the box.
    What a legend.

@@dathunderman4 Totally different style. Ruud was top scorer in Dutch league, La Liga, EPL. If he always beat the offside trap, why will he choose to score from lower probability from outside the box or dribbling and risk losing possession? Van Nistelrooy scored from halfway line in the Dutch league and scored more outside goals in Madrid. He had a better header than Henry. They are too different to be compared fairly.

Thank you for finally doing a video on Van Nistelrooy. All yall people requesting for more videos on other players, just take a moment to appreciate this incredible legend. Van Nistelrooy is the single greatest finisher and goal poacher of all time, and there's no shame to that. Name me one player who can finish from close range like him- the closest would probably be Cristiano in his later years, and where do you think he gets that from? Most foreign strikers these days can't even dream of those goalscoring numbers, and half of them choke when they arrive. Van Nistelrooy was the gold standard for a typical 30-goals a season striker, and the pathetic 20+ goals a season we get these days is just a far cry from that. RVN was the best at doing his job, and inspired a generation of deadly strikers- Rooney, Ronaldo, RVP.
Let's look at the career goalscoring rates of some of the greatest goalscorers in recent memory:
    RVN: 0.58
    Thierry Henry: 0.45
    Didier Drogba: 0.43
    Eto'o: 0.49
    Fernando Torres: 0.34
Aguero: 0.57 (He's only 31 so that number is going down as he gets older)
Zlatan: 0.59 (Nobody mess with Zlatan)
Outside of the GOATs, and that includes Ronaldo Nazario, there aren't many that can match RVN's goals.

one interesting thing about Van Nistelrooy was before a high pass landed near him, he would look around him and scan his area before the ball arrived and he would jump in the air to heada it in the goal... he probaly was the first player to do something like this.

Unfortunately modern football don't appreciate you if you are not flashy. That's what happened to next guy who came after Van Nistelrooy. Huntelaar. he was a deadly finisher and would've been better than Nistelrooy but he ain't flashy and just stay in the box and score.. no one gave him a serious chance despite being a great scorer.

I don't get why they were so againts his playing style. Okay he scored a lot of tap-ins, but that means his positioning is amazing. For me, he is the best target man I've ever seen on a pitch, he was a coold blooded monster in front of goal, scoring almost everything he could. His positioning was insane to be honest, just a ball in the box and RVN would finish.

RVN was amazing but I’d say he was only effective with an amazing midfield, otherwise he’d be a liability because he wouldn’t really help out too much. CR7 would often run down to defend in United, but he was much younger and more energetic then, of course

Raymar Football True but RVN was Steiner simple his job was to get the goals he had willingness to win but wasn’t always a team player.
Also he said some terrible things to Ronaldo.
One had to go but Ronaldo was the future you can see he was improving and need to build a new team. RVN had his time and he wouldn’t of suited the new style.
Had Saha more of a team player and worked better with the team they had then Tevez came in and he was so important with his energy and his sacrifice. Berbatov was more gracefully more lazy in his approach.
Different strikers but with the team United had he wouldn’t of suited them
