The Yellow Watchman goby is well known to have a symbiosis with pistol shrimp. For the past months, I was on the hunt for what could be the best possible goby to pair with my pistol shrimp: Alpheus Ochrostriatus
Those 2 species coming from the same area, same color, both being very active, about the same size, I thought the Cryptocentrus cinctus would be the perfect candidate. I hesitated to get this fish at first because of its size vs my nano but knowing their behavior I thought this could be acceptable.

I got a pistol shrimp and goby pair in my tank and it was an absolute nightmare. Sand everywhere all over my lower frags and giant dunes everywhere!

@@AquaSplendor well he just scares and or chases others that do sometimes come too close. I think that he does not like anyone else excep Bob The shrimp his mate. He is just being Grumpy, like a neighbour that is anoyed about everything :)

I have a high fin goby with my candy cane pistol shrimp and they are definitely an essential part of any mixed reef in my opinion

No need to force anything, they always find each other. Had plenty of them in my 22 plus years in reef keeping and they have always found each other every time. Don’t force things
Yeah, it was more about experimenting honestly, and since I record literaly everything I kinda of record this and it went better than expected, I wanted to make sure they are fine together immediately before I take other action.
Mine was the exact same when I introduced him to my pistol shrimp. Love a first sight, only pistol shrimps can't see :/

Also u should leave the molt in aquarium. Shrimp can eat it for he can get calcium and nutrients back and is a source of food as well.
Here in Brazil, this fish, the yellow watchman, is very well known, and has already been the subject of some studies on color change. There is no evidence that the color change is sex-related. In the same way that there are male yellow fish, there are also females, the same happens with the gray ones. There are hypotheses about temperature, water, ph, etc, but nothing concrete. There is a lack of investment in more studies on the species to better understand this change, as it is something of interest to shopkeepers, as the buyer looks for a yellow fish in the store and in a few months he may have a gray one in its place. And to be honest, the grays aren't all that attractive compared to vibrant yellows.

Watchman + Pistol Shrimp are cool to watch but be prepared for the shrimp to rampage your sand bed and any corals you have on the bottom.
If you follow the series you know that I had another fish before ;) already use to their behavior!
U cannot fool me , i knew that was a shed from shrimp, because i breed neocaridina shrimps.

just wanted to say i love your videos you inspired me in alot of the choices i made for my fish/corals/and tank. i'm also trying a nano theme but abit smaller then yours *15G*. i hope i can some day get close to you i'm still hitting rough spots here and their like how my entire back AIO had a ticking time bomb of a detris trap in the bottom which clouded my tank pretty badly.
i also have a goby/shrimp pair although my goby seems to be leaving my shrimp behind more and more =|

I think i lost my yellow watchman goby... havent seen him over a week! I know the pistol is still messing up my sandbed.... but i hate the loss of livestock.....😔😔
Sometimes they just hide underrock, and bam, 2 month laters you realise it still there :P

Yes, I guess it depends, within the same big area probably, but if you pick one from the philippine and another from the Caribbean, I don't know.

Can u explain how do u keep ur hatchery box fixed n does it have a lid? I have a spare mini aquarium here n I might use it as a box for observation n to socialize new fishes into the fish tank, might open little holes on it to let water pass through.
I have pincer on top, I have a lid but it doesn't fully cover, it's just temprorary. I do with what I have honestly.
I guess we could use suction cup that have opposite side.

I usually leave the molt in the tank for nutrients. Is there a reason you take yours out?
Same reason I clean my laundry, I like it clean.

What do feed it?
Any type of food, I have over 20 I think, will make a video with my opinions eventually
Color has nothing to do with sex. There are males and females of both colors.
Yeah, I read very contradictory things about that, 2 breeder told me about the color, so I went with this information. But it seem not 100% verified (I think)
@@AquaSplendor Here in Brazil we have a breeder of this Goby and they clearly state that there is no indication of sex and color between them. As there is no safer information about this than someone who creates it, I believe it.

Nop, I made a mistake identification at first, but no Xenia genus. But something close to it (Anthelia/Clavularia but I think it's a Stereosoma celebense)
