I knew you would both love this, what a way to end a concert. This is the most beautiful guitar instrumental I have ever heard, it proves Mark can do everything, great songwriter, lyricist, guitarist, producer and film score composer. His touch, tone and feel here is astounding. This is Mark's true voice, all from his fingers.
Don't know if you've seen it, but this performance he did as a tribute to Sir Stirling Moss in 2020 is absolutely breathtaking. th-cam.com/video/MEgMtw13s9I/w-d-xo.html
I was there, in the 2000 years old romans ruins in FRANCE, NÎMES....It was just MAGIC....The sound, the music, the energy, everybody was so happy! Nobody will ever forget that, believe me!😂DOMINICA, you wear the same shirt we were wearing at that time in the 90's😂Peace from France ✌️
Mark Knopfler is a Newcastle lad and this tune is played when the Newcastle United football team comes out on match day. That must be amazing for him as a fan of the club.Although..may I add...this is 'Wild theme'.......'Local hero' is the same tune but played at a faster tempo with the full band..including lots of Sax :)
The song 'seems' so simple and yet has held a special place in my 'greatest guitar solos' catalog for many, many years! Cheers to you both....great reaction!
Glad you are fans of Dire Straits. They were the first band I ever went to see, when I was fifteen. They were my favourite band back then and are still one of my favourites ❤
Now i can say, Mark Knopfler is the best guitar player in his time!....( the sound, the melody, almost every ganre of music DS covered, etc. )......David Gilmour is on the top of the same mountain - 2 guitar kings!!!❤❤
Hello *Andrei* & *Domenica,* Incredible this live version! I've owned the album since it was released back then, and no matter how carefully I listen, there's not a single guitar note missing. That's delivered precisely as in the original, which is extremely rare. *Mark Knopfler* is an anthology guitarist; there's no photo! Peace, folks. ☮😉
Thank you for reacting to this, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It makes me want to go back home to Scotland. Hits me every time. Keep up the great work guys, really love sharing your music journey with you ♥
This is a great version of Going Home from Local Hero - a wonderful piece of heart warming/moving music. Knopfler really is a master of telling a story with the guitar - do you know Brotehrs in Arms? This live version is more liek the 'unplugged' version - the original film version is more bigger and more of a force and you should definitely listen to that. No need to say one is better than th eotehr - just enjoy them both 🙂 Local Hero is a wonderful charming film full of good humour, great assortment of characters and script and a changing story line. I don't know wany one who doesn't love it. I hope you do liek it when you find it :-)
Nice and deep reaction to this beautiful song...listen to how the crowd claps at the end and see how they appreciate and love this great song. If only everyone could listen to this beautiful ...simple ...arrangement of this song. what a beautiful world it would be !!!!
This song is actually titled 'Wild Theme' (from the soundtrack to the movie Local Hero). It's the 'calm' version of the song "Going Home" also on that soundtrack, and Going Home us usually the song the Straits end every concert with, the On The Street / On the Night album being the exception where they ended the concerts with Wild Theme. The 'Local Hero' soundtrack holds an extra special place in my heart, it became the sound track to an important event in my life at the tender age of 16. The movie itself is also gorgeously quaint, and emblematic of the slightly quirky movies that Knopfler would made soundtracks for after this first attempt with Local Hero.
Been waiting for you to listen to this piece. Thought you would like it 🙂 Such a beautiful piece of music that is so emotional. Amazing reaction guys, just beautiful ❤
Its great to see how much you love dire straits. From this same concert (on the night) is another hidden dire straits gem called On Every Street. This live version is great and you and your audience, most i bet haven't seen it, will really like alot.
The beauty of this song lies in it's simplicity ( that and an ability to make a guitar sing ! ) You really should watch the film - it's a gentle , uplifting film - like the song
Come and see your friend Jean in Aberdeen. There isxa very large friendly Polish community and its only 35 mikes from where the Local Hero film was shot in Pennan. The beach scene's were over on the west coast. Recently there was a 40yrs reunion and MK gave his permission for the theme music to played at it.
Though the film setting was Scotland, Knopfler's roots are in the Northeast of England. Hence, 'Local Hero' is the entry song of Newcastle United when they take the pitch in their home matches. You should check out the Sam Fender version played in Newcastle.
Mark wrote this for the film Local Hero & there are many different versions of it. My personal favourite of this one is the one with very prominent Saxophone which almost duels with Marks guitar. There's also a live version of this with Mark's own Guitar hero, Hank Marvin of the Shadows, who joins them on stage as the finali to a concert I think at Wembley London. This song is on my playlist for my funeral, along with Brothers in Arms. Another great reaction you two.
Those are Going Home (Theme of the Local Hero) whereas this is Wild Theme played on Mark's strat rather than acoustic. Like many film scores they include similar motifs.
I recommend checking out A Happy Ending from The Princess Bride movie and Altimira from the film of that name, two more beautiful tracks from film scores composed by the extraordinary Mark Knopfler.
A beautiful piece of music from a cracking movie. MK has the ability to tell a story like no other he could make the phone book sound fantastic to a guitar in his hands, Try the Alchemy version that's awesome as well
When I first watched Local Hero back in the 70's this song brought tears to my eyes; just pure beauty. Definately watch the movie if you get the chance.
This was Mark's first foray into composing music for film!! It remains one of my favorite movie scores of all time! I recommend that you buy the soundtrack album for your home enjoyment! Seeing the movie is great too, but the soundtrack album is a supreme music experience!
If Dire Straits ever got back together and did a massive gig, I would hope they were aware of your channel and seen you both react to them, especially brothers in arms, that they gifted you both 2 VIP tickets 🎫 cos I think you both would so deserve them 🎉
Haunting is how I would describe Mark's play, just like the bagpipes on the Highlands. Talking of bagpipes, I have a challenge for you. People always think listening to this magnificient instrument is monotonous, but it is a bit like jazz, it grows on you. So I dare you to listen to one of my favourite songs for bagpipe called "Hector, the hero". Try the version from the Edinburgh Military Tattoo 1998 (kind of a marching band attraction for Edinburgh tourists), Wolfstone or others. I am pretty sure you will not be disappointed.
I would recommend you to listen to the Alchemy version 1983: like this one from 1993, the song splashes like a collage with the guitar riffs, but after 2 minutes Mark starts and the sax comes in: the song becomes a dance between the two instruments, which is different transmitted to the audience. Yes, it's more commercial, but especially as a concert finale and e.g. loud in the car gives a positive final boost; I just feel great, light-footed and open to new things. My opinion.👍
The whole Knopfler's movie score path is worth mentioning. The main theme from Local Hero is called going home and he has always ended his gigs with either Wild Theme or Going Home. Recently he's also used a beautiful song Piper to the end. And here's Going Home from the last tour th-cam.com/video/q6DDYy1UXaQ/w-d-xo.html
Technically this is "Going Home (The Theme From Local hero). Here is the end scene over which it is played in the film th-cam.com/video/hm-ZHUfCTwk/w-d-xo.html Mark closes his shows with this.
I love this song, but sometimes their live versions don't match the studio, so I would always recommend hearing the studio...incredible stuff. Some groups shine live, but in particular his voice is a story telling voice and often does come across live very well. Let's see how they do here.
You should definitely listen to the full version of this beautiful song next, perhaps Alchemy Live. This is beautiful but the full band version has the total triumphant journey.
This is the full version of the track. It's Wild Theme whereas you're thinking of Going Home. Both share similar phrases, but they are different tracks from the Local Hero score. Both are great!
favourite is wya I man, the song is about Geordie construction workers working in Germany in the 80s, big river is another classic mark playing the guitar in the background
Nice reaction but there is a better, longer version with a saxophone you would enjoy too. This was filmed at Nimes Arena where I saw David Gilmour play twice on his last tour. A special place for me.
I told my family that if I’m not gonna hear this song on my funeral service, I will come out of a casket or that little box and gonna hunt them to the rest of my life, or theirs!
Funnily enough, that is exactly what I've said to my family. Mark has recorded this in many different styles, but this is, to me, the most beautiful. I have not the words to describe how far it reaches into me, and I won't get into why. There are no songs or performances by Mark, or Mark with Dire Straits, or after Dire Straits. I cannot say there's a bad one in all of those. But this - this is something very special and very unique. It's one thing to stand up with the band and play the entire closing theme "up tempo" and it's grand. But this - this is another thing altogether. I know some would disagree, but this is one of the very finest of all of Mark's stage performances, ever.
This longer version has a saxophone solo (th-cam.com/video/6uSGvy6nKDw/w-d-xo.html ). By all means watch the movie "Local Hero" it is really good and is among the last few films starring the great Burt Lancaster. The rest of the movie sound track is also great, especially the only song "The Way It Always Starts" featuring Gerry Rafferty on vocals.
Well, to be precise he uses it from time to time in studio or for such songs as Expresso Love, Our Shangri- La, True Love Will Never Fade, Everybody pays, Punish the Monkeyn You don't know you're born, Don't crash the ambulance sometimes in So Far Away😊
That was beautiful but half of the tune is missing, the best part! Please please check out Mark's original studio recording here th-cam.com/video/3DB-uJ0TxKQ/w-d-xo.html
Nice reaction👍👍👍 you can try heavy fuel a cool song or maybe one from Mark knopfler solo career like boom like that or camerado or Imelda or done with Bonaparte or why ay man

I think that the Alchemy version of this great music is far better than this. You should check it out! it has saxophone, it has more variations, drums...the studio version also better.
You should definitely check out the film Local Hero - heartwarming is probably the best description for it 😊
Stunning he let's his fingers do the talking

The movie "Local hero" is awsome! Great actors, so quirky, and so beautiful at the same time.
I love seeing close ups of marks fingers. Nice to see what he’s doing when you hear the lovely sounds he makes
So beautiful ... makes it all worth while !
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you ❤❤
Thankyou for another awesome dire straits review!
You’d love the movie, it’s one of my favourites. It’s both funny and heartwarming. Plus I knew one of the actors, Jimmy Yuill.
Hello from Aberdeen

Evidentemente quedasteis enamorados de la música de Diré Strais, un saludo desde Galicia España
gentle master

Mark has the mission of a true human in his fingers😊

My favourite film and the piece of music for my funeral being a three quarter Scot living in England. To be used in years to come ❤❤

Them being from Whitley Bay which is just outside Newcastle upon Tyne, Newcastle United Football Club use this as their theme tune.

Absolutely magnifique pièce of music. Endingtheir concerts with it at the Time

I think it’s called “going home”. The whole soundtrack is beautiful from local hero. Definitely on my sleep playlist
This was filmed in a coastal village called Pennann in Aberdeenshire
The beauty of this song lies in it's simplicity ( that and an ability to make a guitar sing ! )
You really should watch the film - it's a gentle , uplifting film - like the song

Maybe Telegraph Road next..

This is Newcastle Fc anthem !!!! This was the end , The Fairwell from Nimes France . Simple and sad.
Great song and a great movie!
Brano Meraviglioso

The notes and chords are quite simple, but the magic that comes from his playing is unbelievable, it gives me shivers any time I listen to this track.
I loved the movie, and this song.
Beautiful! Thankyou 🎸
One of my favourite instrumental songs.

Mark has composed music scores for at least nine films. This was his first. Please venture into his solo work!
Love MK 's guitar heroes. .but this is so soooo soulful and so beautiful!🎸
You MUST listen to the late, fast version with the saxophone. Entirely different and exciting! Much more interesting!
A Mark Knopfler solo tune but played by Dire Straits here. Cracker tune
My home town is Newcastle in England , this is played at every Newcastle home game football match before the game
i don't know if you know the lead guitarists name but if you don't its (mark knopfler) and he comes from (newcastle)
I love this movie and the soundtrack. I still remember seeing Dire Straits live in 1982.
This is why I play a Fender Stratocaster. In the hands of a master like Mark Knopfler, the tone seduces my ear completely.
I would recommend you to listen to the Alchemy version 1983: like this one from 1993, the song splashes like a collage with the guitar riffs, but after 2 minutes Mark starts and the sax comes in: the song becomes a dance between the two instruments, which is different transmitted to the audience.

The one with Hank in 85 is nice and alchemy 83 is good also
I watched the movie back in the 70's; worth checking out.
Mark does each live version just a bit different. Also, Mark is left handed!! Love your reactions ❤
Iconiccally dire straights

The tune is called Going Home, from the movie Local Hero ! … stay lucky, stay safe! 🇬🇧
Actually, it's called "Wild Theme"..
❤beautiful
favourite is wya I man, the song is about Geordie construction workers working in Germany in the 80s, big river is another classic mark playing the guitar in the background
Going Home is the song, theme from Local Hero. Beautiful.
It's Wild Theme..
Nice reaction but there is a better, longer version with a saxophone you would enjoy too. This was filmed at Nimes Arena where I saw David Gilmour play twice on his last tour. A special place for me.
Not better. Longer yes
I prefer this version, I don’t like the longer version so much.
that song is not called local hero, although if it is from the same soundtrack, the song is called Wild Theme

The movie is really good
You should also listen to Going Home, especially the version of the Alchemy Album. It's the same musical theme, but the more bombastic implementation
You have to check the Nimes '92 Wild Theme, much cleaner, less reverb than this, and some Going Home, many versions, many concerts!!
Try "Song for Sonny Liston" live AVO Session, Mark is amazing...
Please watch the movie, too. It is wonderful! And I would love you to hear the NEW version of this song, released in 2024!
If an electric guitar could compose a lullaby this would be it.
No sax. forget it.
Watch the film!!!
Note that Mark Knopfler never uses an pick to play the guitar 😲
Well, to be precise he uses it from time to time in studio or for such songs as Expresso Love, Our Shangri- La, True Love Will Never Fade, Everybody pays, Punish the Monkeyn You don't know you're born, Don't crash the ambulance sometimes in So Far Away😊
Almost true. I have seen Mark use a pick playing Once Upon a Time in the West.

That's Going Home, this is Wild Theme..
Very Important: Local hero was an album of Mark Knolpfer. Not credit "Dire Straits"...
I think that the Alchemy version of this great music is far better than this. You should check it out! it has saxophone, it has more variations, drums...the studio version also better.
The tune from Alchemy is Going Home, this is Wild Theme..
This is not the best version of local hero
YES! Check the movie out.
My number one movie of all times.
Héllo de France Bonsoir se concert c'était dans les Arènes de Nîmes en France😊😊
