HANDS ON Testing The ORVIS ENCOUNTER COMBO / WATCH AND WIN This ROD SET!!

- I grabbed the cheapest rod, reel and line combo available from ORVIS and took it out for the day to put it through it's paces. I wanted to see just how it fished and to show that you don't need to spend stupid amounts of money on gear when you first get into fly fishing in order to catch fish.
The 'ENCOUNTER' combo is available from Kilwell Sports online and from Taupo Rod And Tackle in store and is a great option for anyone new to the sport.

Well, OK, but hardly an objective test, since it's YOU, on a NZ stream. I mean, how much worse would you do with a curtain rail and some dental floss? A much more convincing demo would be ME, with THAT gear, catching trout THAT size, on a Washington State stream. BTW, if my comments ever sound bitter, it's because I am. I’ve been fishing with the Encounter 8wt Combo on the Tongariro for the last 12 months . I paid about $360 for it last year and have been really happy with it so far and after seeing your review I’m off to buy the 6wt also . I must have fished 30-40 full days, caught hundreds of fish and it still shows very little wear . I changed the line last month as it broke , getting wrapped around my Orvis pro boots which I also love, and found the Rio gold 8wtf floating line I purchased was a nice improvement on my cast , all the best everyone, regards Darryl

Cheers mate didn't know orvis had a set under 500 here which is good to know, might get me one had to slightly modify mine after last time fishing there, now fishing a 8.9" rod as they don't make the tip section anymore. Looking forward to your summer dry sessions!!!
Done, for my buddy who's really starting the get the hang of fly fishing but broke his rod on a big brown a while back. Amazing quality content as always, Tight Lines!
