  • Throwback to South Island Diaries 8 in March when I stopped off for a few hours fishing on my way through to my next destination one afternoon.
I didn't have much time so I chose one piece of water and worked it thoroughly and slowly....with surprisingly good results.

Literally take your advice on how to tie, cast, hunt whatever it is I mimic it and it’s never let me down. I am a better angler because of you brother. Thank you for all that you do and know that it’s working for many people not just me. Keep up the great content!

That last girl put on a show. It’s really cool to watch this kind of fishing - working specific fish with different flies and depths, versus working pieces of water for unseen fish. Great stuff, as always!

Hi Alex, interest in your comments on the sunglasses, checked out your gear for reference but what you have posted is not recognised by Uncle Google. Can you supply a better reference and your NZ supplier? Cheers mate. Harera

That's what I call a best day on the water. A Qigong approach to fish hunting full of measured mindfulness and relaxed intentions. All at once calming the mind and feeding the soul.

I know it may not be everyone’s preference, but I love a deep dive into catching a single fish, like the start of this video, rather than watching a dozen fish caught.
But I also love all of the videos so maybe a variety is perfect 😂Great video as always!

Great Sunglasses are an absolute gamechanger. Could not agree more. Probably like most out there, I've tried tons of different brands, colors, and styles. Don't want to diss a brand bc I personally have had bad luck with them, but I've had a terrible time with Costa's 1080P glass lenses. All 3 of mine scratched on the first cleaning and they will only replace the lenses at cost.
I've gone with low light Verdsters, yellowish lenses. I love them, and they're $35! Anyway, another awesome video from the best TH-camr on the planet!

Yes, it usually pays off to change flies immediately when the fish does't take it. I just came from Austria last week where the waters where so over-fished you had to change immediately after a caught, because they recognised the pattern. This counted especially for grayling.

Another thing which striked me: I remarkedly lost a lot of "jumping" fish (usually the big ones), like your last one. Is there a particular reason why? It happened 8 out of 10 times.

Dear Alex, I’ve fished my way through approx 4 dozen fly lines from Scientific Anglers, Rio and Airflo to experiment with different tapers. You might be interested in knowing that the SA infinity turned out to become my favourite Nymphing line. It has the longest belly in its category and the weight is perfectly adapted to modern fast rods.

Hi Alex - great video as usual and good to see the time you took to work out how to fish that water. Also may I comment again that can you please add more pointers to where you are casting to and where the fish you see are lying? Esp in this video with the glare and your camo line and small flies it is difficult to understand what you are doing on the water. Not all of us viewers have that polaroid lens on but maybe I can try that while watching lol. Speaking of sunglasses - your link to the Smiths site is problematic = Warning: This URL has been blocked by Bitly's systems as potentially harmful.
We recommend you close your browser window and notify the person who sent you the link. Cheers from Cambodia.
