I have both versions of the RCB Nolichucky Jack, and I like them very much. In fact, the “mossy bone” version is one of my all-time favorite slip joint knives. I have purchased several RCB knives, and all of them have been excellent quality.
Obviously, GECs are by far my favorite knives. However, I got to say that Rosecraft seems to have way more CONSISTENT stag. I mean, there's some that are better than others just from different preferences, but I've not seen any bad stag covers!!! They all look good, and none of them are "duds". You don't have to play the stag lottery. Lol. I just ordered by Rosecraft Nolichucky on Friday. Can't wait to get it in hand. Great video. Keep it up. BTW, I agree with stag & no shield.
I own the Appalachian Jack and just received the Cooper Cotton Barlow Stag. I like the blade shape. I noticed in a previous video that you own at least one Jack Wolf. May I suggest the Monterey Bay Valar. It comes in two versions; I ended up owning both. Why? K 390, HRC 63-64. You will not be disappointed.
GEC use Sambar Stag (from the Indian subcontinent), which is the best kind. Rosecraft say this is Red Deer Stag, which is okay, just not as dense. Rosecraft have out-designed GEC for one simple reason though - they use steel liners with their stag, unlike GEC who use brass, thereby opening the door to the curse of verdigris (aka brass bleed). I just cannot understand why Bill Howard does this.
WOW, You compared the Rosecraft knives to GEC knives. Wouldn't it be more comparable to Rough Ryder Reserve knives? I mean from what I hear, the GEC knives are practically handmade, and...made in the USA. D2 in my opinion is overrated but it is good material. I am looking forward to owning a Rosecraft knife. I don't even try to own a GEC knife as they are so pricy and hard to find.
Love this Nolichucky Jack! Such a beautiful design!

I do agree that RCB is very consistent on their stag. Each example is well matched and looks good!

I have definitely been considering the Valar.
In the UK, Rosecraft stag sells out pretty quickly.

I was just looking at one of my MOST exotic knives and think it’s getting some verdigris… pretty bummed.
