It actually makes sense that dislikes will cause the video to be recommended less. It's just not 100% that it won't show up. The thing is the like/dislike ratio determines the quality of the video, which means that if the video is disliked way more than liked, it won't be recommended as much, as clearly people were unhappy with the video. It still counts as engagement tho, so it still does get recommended ocassionally. Of course it doesn't solve the issue of trolls purposely disliking someone's videos just to tank their channel down, for the lolz, which is the main reason why TH-cam tried to hide the public dislike counter, so it deters the trolls from pressing it - but it doesn't really work, trolls will press it regardless, so their effect only encourages trolls to press it more, because they don't know how many people pressed it, so trolls are either thinking - well somebody has already pressed it, let's go for another one, or - I'm first to tank it down. But trolls are only a subset of people on the internet, and the creators still see the dislike counts on their statistics page, so the hiding was pointless. What I would like is if the "Return TH-cam Dislikes" browser Chrome extension also supported YT Shorts, so I can see how many people disliked shorts. I use the extension and it works fabulously on the long form videos. But on shorts, it doesn't.

I’ve only ever disliked a video once. It was a video by the richest, in which they said Anna and Elsa from frozen are teaching kids it’s okay to be gay, because they love each other. The video has since been removed.
I pretty sure a few years ago, a dislike was just as beneficial for a video as a like. I guess they changed that though, probably around the time they hid the dislike button
We need a conformation for this, where instead it's a Short solely for the purpose of getting Likes, to ensure it's Not Just because people swiped away!
In my case, an ex is doing it and creating accounts just to dislike my videos multiple times...SUCKS because I'm a new channel and he knows what it does to my videos getting shown to others. Some people just WANT to see You Fail because they are hateful. You'd think YT would be able to block that.
If I had it my way, dislikes would completely revoke all profit they would make of ad revenue from your view, but TH-cam knows rage bait is profitable for them too, so that's not happening.
Well most of TH-cams videos have more dislikes than likes apart from the Technoblade video. I know this because I installed an extension on my computer to bring back the dislike counter. The dislike counter thing is probably why most of TH-cam's videos have more dislikes than likes.
They technically shouldnt even be allowed to do this kind of infringes on the freedom of speech and allows for manipulation of the market on certain things
