I can relate. I was turned off young by the politics and culture in the hall. I saw how they treated poor witnesses compared to the witnesses who had money . Two sets of rules for elders kids. The elder kids I knew that were so wild but somehow they didn’t get disciplined. As I got older the doctrines just made no sense. I realized I wasted a lot of my time believing. My dad told me the world would be gone by the time I left high school. I’m 50 now. One more thing the hypocrisy of a lot of racist JW’s. A lot of black folks have a lot to say about white folks and injustice but they bow down to the governing body that just keeps adding more and more younger white men. I thought as the end got closer the GB would start dying off because wasn’t it only 144,000? Now they just keep adding more of Christ bros. Keep up the good fight. You made the right decision

I'm from Haiti. I moved here in 1995, at the age if 14. I started studying with the witnesses within weeks of coming here because that was the family, that had helped welcoming us here. Helping us, teaching us about the culture. Learning English and all that. Although, I never got baptized into the WTO. I was a very deep believer. The only thing that bothered me. Was that we could not celebrate birthdays. That bothered the life and death out of me. I questioned that a lot. I Never got an answer that made sense. Now, that I'm free in Christ. I am very, very much into birthdays. It's not the birthday party I go to. It's the birthday party I don't go to. I even went to a few of them, when I was in the Organization.

Im by Chicago but JWs up here in Illinois heard about the “apostates” standing outside of a Kingdom Hall with signs, because a sister has family at the Kingdom Hall you guys were referring to. And our elders up here felt the “urgent need” to inform and educate the brothers & sisters” about apostasy. The watchtower lesson that day did also talk about abuse and things..
I was down with J Dub's for 19 years. Now at 53 I realize several years ago I had to take the knowledge I learned from it in order to get past it as I look back on my early years and I started to write I recalled when I was in the 2nd and 3rd grade there was a play that I wasn't able to participate in and after the play teachers gave out popcorn when it came down time for me to have popcorn I recall the teacher saying these words and and I quote you can't participate but yet you could have popcorn. I didn't know what I knew but I knew in that moment something wasn't right... because how I was made to feel

It’s a high suicide rate for ex members along with depression from being kicked out of their family and having no one. They find a lot of comfort and support in our videos (as you see in the comments). So this is our niche. It’s our service to help people. If it’s not something you’re not interested in then no need to watch. Hope this answers your question.
For me it’s the only thing I can relate to being that prior to getting baptized and being born in you are taught to only associate yourself with members. So you’re basically set up to feel alone if you should happen to fall short. It’s therapy for me, reassurance and that I’m not tripping .Every timeI watch a video from former members it’s a breath of fresh air. They feel more like family outside of the hall than ever being inside the hall. And I know that I’m not just making things up in my head the questions that I once had and the fears that I’m trying to rid. Most of us are traumatized trying to heal so that’s why for me. I look every day to see if they post a new video.
