Childhood experiences can play a significant role in shaping behavior. For example, if, as a child, you often asked your parents for something and they responded in a snappy or irritated way, it might leave a lasting impact. As an adult, you might unconsciously say "sorry" whenever you ask someone for something because you're trying to avoid those kinds of negative reactions again. People pleasing is a manifestation of a deeper issue. It could be an anxiety disorder or depression, low self-esteem, PTSD, BPD, perfectionism, etc..... that person you mentioned having a panic attack from people pleasing wasn't having a panic attack from people pleasing, it was probably an anxiety attack.
