My top love languages are quality time and acts of service.. I don't like grand gestures too, I prefer privacy, very personal, intimate gestures and moments, 1-on-1. I think if my partner doesn't match up, it's easy for them to feel unloved, since it's mostly in the small things daily that people often take for granted. Not to say I don't occasionally amp things up though. Identify with Azura on the flying thing though, as statistically, air disasters are way rarer than things like getting struck by lightning. That said, I think I will make it a conscious thing to at least say "I love you", just because you never know, but I still wouldn't obsess over the worst case scenario thing.
