One thing about trade companies: There is a goods produced bonus applied to non trade company provinces in the same region so it may be just as worth it to keep high value trade goods out of the trade companies as well. And as some people will inevitably point out: only turning trade depots into trade companies is probably better. Just keep one province as a trade company in each state to allow you to build the investments.

Can you have one province in a TC and the rest stated? IIRC, in my last Ethiopia campaign, stating an area with a TC province removed that province from the TC.

He could probably defeat the Ottomans right now. Just take some favourable battles in his mountain forts, let attrition eat them up a bit and then start rolling into anatolia. Would be an unnecessarily difficult and long war, but could be fun.

Mountain forts are complete garbage as a horde. Worse than not having a fort at all. Without the flat terrain bonus you do 50% less damage than with it. Building forts on flat provinces feels weird for a bit but as a horde it's one of the best things you can do
