    GEORGIA MENTIONED 🇬🇪

  • @Osariik
    @Osariik ปีที่แล้ว +155

    Yay, a country I know basically the minimum about the geology of! I'll do a bit of research for some geology facts for Georgia but I'm also going to throw in a few language facts because Georgian is a very cool language. Okay, time for some geology.
    For much of the history of the rocks that now make up Georgia, they were underwater in repeated and extended marine transgressions (basically the ocean flowing over continental land). For context, we're currently in a period with extensive marine transgressions, with huge areas of continental crust being covered in shallow ocean-for example much of marine Indochina from Thailand to Java, 94% of Zealandia, vast areas off the east coast of North America, etc. (and said marine transgressions will get worse due to climate change. yay). As such, most of the rocks that make up Georgia are marine in origin, interspersed with rocks of volcanic origin (yay!). For a long period beginning about 70 million years ago, the area experienced a lot of turbidity flows (basically underwater landslides), causing the formation of two types of rocks that have some of my favourite names and appearances: greywacke (pronounced "grey-wacky") and flysch (pronounced like "fish" but with an 'L'), with also limestones. 40-odd million years ago there was a huge amount of volcanism (yay!), which continued at lower levels for a few million years. About 20 million years ago, the Arabian plate crashed into the Iranian and Eurasian plates, closing off the ancient Tethys Ocean and forcing up the Caucasus Mountains in an orogeny (mountain-building event) that extends from Burma to France due to the combined efforts of a number of plates (including, but not limited to, the Indo-Australian, Iranian, Arabian, Anatolian, African and Eurasian plates). As part of this event (which IS ongoing), extensive volcanism resumed about 5 million years ago (yay!). Some of those volcanoes are still dormant or active; Kazbek last erupted about 2750 years ago, and could erupt again. Since the orogeny is ongoing, earthquakes are also a threat (more so than volcanoes actually).
    The Georgian language (ქართული ენა, kartuli ena) is only related to a handful of other languages, all of them minor and almost all of them only spoken natively in Georgia (one, Laz, is primarily spoken in northeastern Turkey); all of these languages except Laz use the Georgian alphabet, which in my opinion is one of the coolest scripts of any language. Georgian is also a completely ungendered language; it doesn't distinguish between "he" or "she" at all, and you refer to all people as just "it". The name of Georgia in Georgian is Sakartvelo (საქართველო), and the name of my favourite geological feature of Georgia, Mount Kazbek, is Mqinvartsveri (მყინვარწვერი), which means "Freezing Cold Peak" or "Glacier Peak".
    So yeah, Georgia is cool. I like Georgia, now I know a little bit more about it, and I hope you guys know a little more about it now too.

    For some reason, the mental image I had of the supply limit for those Ottoman stacks at the end was of their general just pilling literally all of their army's weapons, tools, foodstuffs etc into a comically large mountain of stuff on the back of a single distressed mule with trembling legs and going "Onward, noble beast; ya!"

    I was playing a game as Georgia and Ottomans attacked me, so they were sitting on Trapezunt with like 50k troops and I with two vassals and an ally had 30k give or take (+Moscovi but they were too far away), so I popped the quest for 20 strelci which put me well over double force limit and send everyone into Trapezund and well, let's just say that the Ottomans never moved an inch further than Trapezund ever again. (I stackwiped the 15k on the siedge and did double casualties to the 30+k reinforcements in a second battle)

    vassalizing is sometimes more aggressive expansion than fully annexing because in the menu it shows the maximum amount of ae gained with anyone, if you vassalize someone by war it calculates ae for them, if you annex them they don't calculate ae

    this start took some finegaling for me. I think it's important to be able to show strength on AQ first, as long as you can keep up mil tech with QQ you can eventually beat them on your forts, especially with a vassalized trebizond. I even managed to get a whitepeace vs ottos when they decced for it with 3x my force limit - georgias forts are no joke if you keep your mil tech up and stack morale. Defensive first is probably a must unless you are insanely good at thisg ame.

    My good friend Quarbit,
    How are you doing after all these years. Last I heard you had finally done the Rome video you promised so long ago. I don't know who it was that told me about it, but I thought it was a joke in poor taste, you didn't actually do it, did you? Well, it's not like you're going to answer anyways. I just hope, regardless, you're doing well, wherever it is you are.
    I seem to have finally recovered somewhat, at least psychologically, after the accident. Well, I'm still sending this letter even though I've "recovered", so I con't possibly have gotten that much better, what does my doctor know anyways. Well, either, I finally did it and opened EU4 after so long, I even played multiplayer with a few friends, it was really fun, or as fun as multiplayer can be, but it will never be the same as before.
    In that fateful day, I'm sorry to have made you play it, you scaled too hard, you hadn't for years at that point and turns out you were right. After the multiplayer game I talked about, I also uninstalled EU4 at last, I guess I just needed a bit of closure. I'm sorry, I really am. And my greatest wish is that wherever it is in VTuber heaven you are, you're doing well.
    Your greatest fan,
