The training room is a great idea. You can find some great talent there. The biggest test is their attitude see if they fold under some pressure.
This is the greatest video on cap testing I've ever seen. No lie.
Ty
Hands on interview training. Best way to weed out the bad ones. I fully approve.
I like the hands on interview and how you handled it. You can test people's knowledge as well as teach them something. Everyone starts somewhere. I know I would like a hands-on interview, which makes it a lot more practical!
As a hands on learner... I can appreciate the 'training wall'. The using failed parts that look new is a nice touch as well.
Very true!
You did a perfectly mate you educated you tested knowledge you didn’t criticize that’s what you call a leader
Thank you very much for the feedback and support
Great interview, your patient and you can tell you genuinely care about someone success. Knowing the WHY is important and as you know commonly not taught or trained on anymore. Thanks for being you Mike P!
Mike your drive and hustle is inspiring! You inspire me to do better!!
Oh, thank you very much
Hey glad you liked the package. And please there is no obligation for advertising. I appreciate the sentiment but it is not necessary. Just thankful for your order. Also I love the hands on interview!
:)
You did very well for the interview/Live Exam. It's clear to see that you are passionate about it. Best way to learn - Hands on!
Mike I know every interview I've been on in the industry. I've had to take a written and a practical exam. So you keep it up.
Very impressed with the organization of your warehouse.
thank you
Your a good teacher!!!!
Thanks
Simple cheat:
HERM=Hermatic compressor: 3 prong
FAN: 1 prong
CONTROL: 4 prong

Skills assessment is the correct way to interview. You also found the ability to listen to direction and retain information in a mere few minutes. Now the ultimate test: Can they show up to work?
Let’s see:)
Nice posters, especially the F B one 👍😀
Oh yeah we all know. You should hear my ringtone. Customers love it.
you gotta start
stamping those bricks of copper..lol
I know
You’re gonna give John Phillips Plumbing a heart attack with those flags
That’s the GOAL. Just kidding
Great idea Mike! Don’t waste your time and money on liars! Anybody who has even a little knowledge of the field should know that stuff! Good stuff man
Declan from England likes how calm you are I have guys working for me who would not know a capacitor from their arse never mind how to measure its capacitance.
the Omega symbol on the meter doesn't mean resistance, it means OHMS...words matter
I never checked the resistance of a contactor until watching your video Thanks for the info
No problem 👍
I believe you did well on that hands-on interview.
I also believe that his former "mentor" was full of shit but also that this kid is willing to learn.
My $.02 worth.
Good job I know everything that you know , and appreciate everything that you do to teach others , I’m always looking to learn more because if I learn one thing a day it’s definitely a plus , my problem is that my mind says yes on doing anything but my body says no but I’m still trying to do what I can while I can keep up the good work and great videos 😊
I appreciate that!
Every client that buys a top of the line unit from you should have a Mikey pipes stamped brick of copper as a gift
mikey pipes killin da game
Great videos! I watched one yesterday and you where doing some high voltage testing. You mentioned the ELECTRICIANS one handed rule. That was one of the first rules I was taught when testing 240 volt equipment with a meter back in the 80s. I see a lot of videos where techs want to hold both leads with one hand and a camera with the other. Could lead to creating a short circuit or even death by electrocution.
Great Video, Learning something all the time.
Love the mock up using bad parts 🏆. That said, your subs that watch you daily can pass the test that a hopeful employee struggles with during an interview/test 🤷♂️🤦🏻♂️
Your copper and brass bars are shmexy :3
Gotta love it 👍
Depends what the person being interviewed says they know. I been doi g this 20 yrs and I always tell everyone i know nothing but i can troubleshoot sequence of operation and low voltage. I never over sell myself i over deliver.
What a calendar...ohhhhhhh. "Peter let me see your ohhhhh"
I think he got alittle stage fright with you there. I also think you should switch position of the components so no one gives the answers away or anyone watching your channel walking in doesn't know what's good and what's bad so you know they are testing it right.
Great idea
10k subs! Let’s goooo 🔥
I hate to say this but now it will be 10 times harder finding employees but it’s a great idea
it is what it is
You need to hook up a training unit. Put a low ohm contactor and have them diagnose it from start to finish. Put fuse popper on the board
If you confuse a contactor for a transformer clearly you haven’t been in it long enough. Diggin the idea of the hands on interview tho
Thank you for the feedback
Mikey what do the pipefitters steam fitters work on in the New York area?? I’m a pipe fitter retired in the upper Midwest and we did all the commercial HVAC work . I love all your videos you have a great work ethic thank you
mike, upturned U is omiga, meaning ohms the unit of resistance!
Ty
I love silver seal, use it on everything
I can tell peter is not for service,he doesn't know the basics.you did the right thing leaving him in the warehouse.Honestly i wounder where mikey finds this new guys that come, they dont even know how to check the capacitor and contactor imagine to check inverter systems, low air flow or low in charge. If you have gone to hvac training every single tech should be able to check the charge, check capacitor, check contactor, check compressor and fan motor(basics).
Like the interview lets you get past the paper and talking bs, lets them prove it. Now I can understand it puts a lot of stress on them when coming in for the interview but I would do like you say just tell me if you dont know or unsure, but they dont want to say that in the interview. Might want to get a couple capacitors that are questionable, ie just under the 5%, and see what would they advise on a maint call.
Great I think he was nervous though lol😊
But what if they watch this video before the interview?
Do you know what that’s a great question cheaters will never prosper
😂 he did pick up the most expensive capacitor. 70/7.5 amrad
All the shit for techs is good. Can you make some stuff for the owners as well? The organization side. Help us out oh g
You did fantastic… can I take the test you can use the video as an answer key so you can show the interviewee “not Peter”how it’s really supposed to go 😂
Yeah good job
I don’t think he is ready to be a service tech yet
Put him in maintenance department see what he will do with the opportunity.
He knows a tad bit
Ya did good.
I would have also instructed him how to identify the capacitor terminals by the markings C, H, F. And when checking resistance to always short circuit the meter leads to confirm the meter is working properly.
Also take a screwdriver and touch across cap spade connectors to short it out so you don't get wailed. You'll only make that mistake once!
You handled it well but I don’t believe he’s ready to be a part of pipe doctor yet! Maybe as a apprentice
You could add a traditional boiler, with all the components.... after you rearrange all the accouterments totally wrong.... interviewees answer as you point to each device, and explain where it really should be mounted... . then ask them an alternate name for a hose bib.
How do these guys not know these basic troubleshooting steps?
It’s really mind blowing
I occasionally interview engineers and I always ask what to do with a stripped screw. Eliminates about half of them in 30 seconds lol.
Mikey I got a bad compressor from Lennox right from the factory, it was shorted to ground never even run a day in its life. Stuff is made like garbage nowadays unfortunately.
You need to send Frankie some shirts
You're an HR persons nightmare 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lol. Mets suck
Peter’s been there too long not to know that he should know that. Sorry I’m not a hater not a troll.
He struggled too much on the jobsite so hes a a shop guy now lol, but hes good at that role
Woah! Where do you get those flags? I’d buy one
Amazon
Im replacing a 35/5 @440 cap as i watch this video
Awesome
Peter must be a plumber holy shnykies
#1🎉🎉🎉
Those copper - brass bars come with or without the sock ?
Easy on paper
From your question to the prospect it could still be a bad contactor. The coil could be good but the contacts could be burnt and or pitted as you can have 240v on the line side. He should have said to test on the load side and and also do a voltage drop test across the contacts. The guy also said he would measure voltage at the cap instead of MFD's. In your question both sides of the cap would have to be bad. I had one on my own unit go bad on both sides. This guy doesn't sound ready for the big leagues. I hope you passed on him. I'm just a DIY guy BTW but I know this stuff.
I have most of those flags my neighbors hates them but i dont care !! Lol
Tell Peter that the capacitor has CHNF common FAN herm It’s written on there come on Peter. Signed Big cat matt soft and warm, the quiet storm, big and beautiful, large, and in charge HVAC in Minnesota two pounds of gold
I’m over here, screaming Herm to common and fan to common lol
Mikey where is the Porsche? That what was it, 911 turbo… HVAC paid for it? Let’s see it and let’s see what HVAC can really pay for 🙏 did it go away? Whip that thing man
@MikeysGarage
Well I believe he was a helper and not a hvac tech? ( his mentor seems that he is learning)
He might be trainable but certainly cannot go out on his own..
your first question on your new tech exam should read as follows: (fill in the two blanks) Who was the best modern day president? Who is the worst president of all time?
Why the Biden hate? Ever do work for Trump? Be prepared not to get paid as agreed!
Bull shit. 💩
Wouldn’t your posters alienate half of your customers?
We live in a free country right get your facts together if you have that much hatred for the opposite political party well, let’s just say that maybe you should go live Siberia
I’m talking from a purely economic standpoint. Less customers mean less money. Just saying.
Carrier has a lot of balls charging the prices they do for that cheap garbage.
As a loyal viewer I hope I can talk some sense into you not voting for Biden. :) #FJB
I can't decide if I want Trump to be granted a directed verdict or trust a NY jury for an acquittal. We need The Donald more then ever right now.
Ain't the flags on the wrong side? flag protocols
The symbols on the meter no matter what meter they are the same capacitance symbol ohms volts all the same….. sorry kid next interviewer
106 thumbs up
I really appreciate the continued support. Thank you very much.
Let me say this: In my opinion, I suspect your 'political affiliation' is less a ''political affiliation' and more a 'what's best for The United States of America'. That being said, in my voting life, no Democrat has run on any platform that I agree with, and in some cases, Republicans were borderline. I feel there are candidates other than either 'D' or 'R', that would be FAR BETTER for our country - but if you're not running on a 'D' or 'R' ticket, you basically stand no chance of winning a presidential election. It's really a sad state, but it is what it is. So I have always voted Republican, because they may not be the best option, but they are the best option that at least somewhat aligns with my beliefs and has a chance of winning. So generally, I vote 'R' because they more closely align with what I believe in. With Trump, at this point, however, there is a proven record. Yeah, he talked mean on twitter and such, but who cares. The political promises he made and largely delivered on and policies he pushed were GOOD FOR AMERICA! He was and is AMERICA FIRST. Biden, democrats and company are China (or everyone else) first. AMERICA FIRST, FJB!!!! FTD!!!!!!!!!!
Well said my fellow American 🇺🇸
I’ve been watching you for a year now, and Peter should’ve known those answers like the back of his hand. I’m not sure he has what it takes to be an HVAC technician. -SMH How can someone hangs around you that long and not know these basic HVAC things. This tells me he’s not interested enough and not taking his job serious. Tell me I’m wrong.
Also don’t hire that other guy either. The one checking resistance from the 24v terminal to the high voltage terminal. If you do let’s hope he’s a faster learner then Peter when it comes to capacitors and contactors. 🤦🏼♂️. Hope you find a good worker where I can learn even more from your channel. I only watch your HVAC stuff not the plumbing. Thanks!
Mingia Peter was out with you for how long and still can’t confidently test a capacitor? I’m surprised this guy is still employed by you
Peter now runs the office. Perfect for him.
I think the interviewee didn’t pass
id give him 10 bucks an hour lol
Some people are just not meant for our type of work and Peter is a perfect example, time to move on from him or just make him the yard dog. He hasn't learned even the simplest of hvac basics.
Don’t be so cruel
Stop the politics I enjoy your content till u tart that
lol God bless America
I think you gave away too many answers.....
Did you pass?
Love the F*ck Biden flag!!! ❤
The flag of war criminals still hangs.
No bueno.
Which flags are you referring to? Please don’t hide behind a keyboard.
@@MikeyPipesUncensored Don't respond to these morons.
The flag of war criminal country that is located on Palestinian territory.
@@MikeyPipesUncensored " no bueno " go back to mexico or wherever the fuck your from.
peters still a better tech than your interviewee lol
