Any time I install American standard or Trane I like to remove that side panel to verify that none of the pipes are touching anything. Especially the ones that go under the coil to the compressor. I like that RLS setup.
You will lose efficiency but it will work. It just won’t work as well because it won’t move as much refrigerant. Different manufacturers are different and the information is usually I the installation guide.
@@AaronPowellvox Not in this case you won’t lose efficiency by dropping from from 7/8th to 3/4. As long as the correct sized piston or TXV is used and the charge is set correctly, a half-ton difference isn’t enough to drop efficiency. Plenty of refrigerant will be flowing especially with a slight larger piston or 3.5 ton TXV. The actual charge will need a bit more dialing in but there isn’t a big enough difference to change efficiency. If anything, it might improve it.
Nice work
Has the refrigerant messed up your vacuum gauge?

Can a 3.5 ton unit be reduced down from a 7/8 line to 3/4 suction line? The old unit is 3 ton with 3/8 and 3/4 lines.
Read the manual but the answer is yes, you can reduce to a 3/4" suction line on a 3.5-ton unit.

The efficiency is probably negligible, I do it and I have no issues
