  • This week I was in a rush again, because of illness in our home. As once again I couldn't dedicate a lot of time to the making of this video, I hope the content is interesting enough and that next week I'll be back with something a bit less boring than just bits of painting process.

Recently discovered your existence and really like your use of colors and brushwork. Great that you spend some time on the topic of failure in this video. It's good to remind ourselves that failure is part of life in these times of social media. Even John Singer Sargent would scrape off paint after many sessions to start over again. Monet also destroyed many of his paintings. I think pretty much every artist does it. Don’t let it ruin your day!

Thank you for the compliment! And yes, you're right and I will try to care less! :)

I actually LIKE how your flower painting turned out. It's less photo-realist and more impressionistic, which may not have been your intention, but I think it works really well. Maybe you'll see it that way too with time, and maybe someone will surprise you and ask to buy it. I find letting go of perfectionism is an oft-recurring theme in my journey.

Thank you! My intention is never to do a photo-realistic rendering, but my aim is to capture the light and colors in a strong composition. Since the light was constantly changing, however, I didn't manage to find the right hierarchy in my painting. I'm definitely happy about some parts though.
Yes, I know some painters who don't have to deal with perfectionism, but most do, I think.

What a very good video! You definitely highlight the real world and not the "fictive" internet world. To be an artist does not require all things to go 100 percent perfect every time. You should actually be able to make videos showing your failed attempts of creation. That would teach people that the artist-world is also about failure - because it is. I would recommend that you DO use photography to assist you when lighting-conditions are rapidly changing. I know you are not a fan of this, but actually it will make your days much easier. Thanks for your honest videos and very informative videos. Great paintings, Anna!

Thanks you! I actually like using photographs when I paint mainly from imagination. However, I will not use them as a reference for still lives, because the subtle colors I like about my subjects completely disappear in photo's. Tomorrow I will try to paint some Sardinian artichokes by father gave me and then I will start with new projects that dons't require perfect daylight!

@@annamariavargiu Looking forward to upcoming projects (non-light dependent 😉). I am really enjoying your painting style.
