I appreciate your comment about not using the weights - I hadn't even thought about heart rate, I was focused entirely on resistance! Thank you. All of my workouts to date have been with the weights. Will try it in class tomorrow!
Thank you for commenting. The reality is that many of the buoys are just too large and dense for some participants to exercise with good form once they are submerged and interact with buoyancy. Personally I prefer to teach without handheld equipment. I can get more creative with movement. Plus, the water's resistance is the best equipment there is!

It is recommended that water shoes be worn in shallow water if you exercise vigorously and frequently. Gravity is still present in shallow water, and thus impact. It is just a way of protecting your feet. Shoes are not needed in deep water, but I wear them because they add extra drag resistance to lower body movements.
