Awesome! I even managed to do it without an older monitor. Just turn the PS2 and TV on, and count the same amount of taps -> One down -> X -> Three down -> X -> One left -> X, And you're good to go! Thank you!

I am writing this in honor to my old TV, while trying to play my PS2 on my newer monitor, it failed to get any signal. Watching your video you showed me the solution, so I connected my PS2 to an old TV, changed from "RGB" to "Y Cb / Pb Cr / Pr" and now it works on my monitor, but I knew a little bit that it was the last deed what my old TV did for me. As I plugged my PS2 back into the TV and turned it on, I heard a loud ssssssssssssssss BANG !! And the TV is gone ... In his last breath he gave me the opportunity to enjoy my old console and games, for many days to come. RIP o7

I spent the past week trying to make this PS2>HDMI "dongle" work with my PS2 Slim and new UHD 4K TV and was about to give up and go buy a PS5 or some expensive hard to get console and then buy all new expensive games. NO! Your videos saved me from that. Now I followed the "clicks" (down-X-down-down-down-down-X-left-X) and it finally works. All you're doing is changing the PS2's video out signal from RGB to Composite. Now it works! Thanks!

This video saved me..YOU DONT NEED OLD CABLES. I followed what you did and I was able to do it on a blank screen. To do it without old cable.
Turn playstation on and wait a bit
Go down once and press X.
Go down 3 times and press X
Go left once and press X.
The video popped up immediately after I did that

I bought a component cable and thought it was broken because there was no signal. It turned out to be a settings issue. I changed the settings to: Digital Out (Optical) On | Component Video Out Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr | Screen Size 16:9 and like magick it looks good on my modern big screen TV. When I used the original AV cable, everything looked blurry and it was actually affecting game play. Now it's pretty crip and clean. I was going to use an HDMI converter, but now I don't even need it. It's a beautiful thing, being able to play these old games today and having them look good again!

The first time, I use the composite cable for set up the PS2 on RGB and clearly follow the step by step guide but it doesn't work, only the stable red light when plugged to external power supply (5V-1A). I so tried to make the "blind" modifies (with the no signal screen) changing both the ps2 video aspect settings and the color profile to Y Cr Cb. Made every possible combination but nothing to do, still doesn't work. What can I do? It's my TV fault? I have an Hisense Vidaa H55B7120. Thanks and have a nice day!

Another issue with the cheap chinese brand hdmi converters is they wont display the signal nessesary to display ps1 games regardless of the ps2 being backwards compatible. For the same reason they also wont display certain homebrew titles such as beats of rage games if youre running free mcboot. There is a more expensive hdmi converter thats branded pound that will. But its about 10x the cost of the chinese hdmi adapter. There are also tutorials online that show you how to switch over the ps2 display output if you dont have another cable. It just means youre navigating the menus blind and have to follow the steps exactly. Something which i had to do myself as my tv didnt have any inputs other than rf and hdmi and i only had hdmi and scart leads lol. That was a major pain in the arse. Idealy i would just stick with rgb scart if your tv has it as theres very little if any difference in image quality between hdmi and rgb. Also certain latter revision of free mcboot have an option where you can force the games to display in resolution up to 1080i. Iv never tried it myself but metal jesus did a video on it a while back

More the question what HDMI solution use what kind of signal.
PS1 Games are not supported with the component cable and so also not with the HDMI Cheap Dongle 👹

    • @stevesstuff1450
      @stevesstuff1450 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@WickedGamerCollector : PS1 games do play just fine over a component cable; that's how I have my fat PS2 connected to my TV, and PS1 games work perfectly.
The problem with the HDMI adaptor is that they only output the native system resolution, and so it puts out only 240i/p for the PS1 games, which most modern HD TVs cannot handle via HDMI. If the HDMI adaptor upscaled the picture resolution to 720p, then there should be no issues.
If the TV has scart or component hook-ups fitted, these are the best options for retro consoles as the TV can easily accept the lower 240 resolution through those connectors.

@@WickedGamerCollector as far as I'm aware iv never had any issues getting ps1 games to run via scart cable. I think that's the eu/uk equivelent of component. I'm sure pound aren't the only hdmi solution that can play ps1 games either but it's the only one I know off hand. I don't know the technical reasons why the cheaper hdmi adapters won't run ps1 though

@@WickedGamerCollector PS1 games does work with Component cable on a ps2 console, just not on a PS1. Steve is right, it's the TV not recognizing the signals. My Sony 32" CRT tv with component input is perfect to play systems all the way up to ps2 and ps3/xbox 360 generation. The only had thing about it is it's very heavy. Plugging it in modern TV systems up to the ps2 looks really bad even with the Dongle.

I did this solution for my original problem of no signal. Unfortunately, I'm still having an issue. At the initial start up, everything seems fine. But if there is any break in content (loading or transition) long enough I get the "no signal" message from my TV, for some reason the content once loaded doesn't "wake up" the signal again. I can tell the the game is running due to feedback from the duel shock vibration, but the signal is no longer getting to the TV. It's hit or miss with what games it does it with because some work fine. I have a theory that it keeps working as long as loading time is short enough to not trigger the signal loss warning on the TV.
My question is: is there a setting om my TV or the PS2 that needs adjusting to keep my HDMI signal "awake"?

Thanks for sharing. I’m having a few issues with switch boxes and converts so this has given me something new to try.

I had no signal issues when I tried this converter with the ps2 slim as I already had mine set to use with component cables, but when I connected it to the USB on the front, it messed with my controllers. For reference, I wanted this to play Capcom VS SNK 2, and the buttons worked, but d pad wouldn't registered when used together with the kick buttons. Fine with punch. The issue didn't go away until I switched from the front USB to a phone charger and did a complete shut down, not just sleep mode. So I recommend using an external power source if you don't want to inevitably destroy the 5 volt line on your system. Otherwise it is comparable to the component video quality but find yourself where HDMI is the only option.

Anyone had any issues with just cd games not displaying? The disc reads fine, I get the playstation 2 splash screen then just a blank screen before monitor shuts off from no signal, pretty sure the game is playing as I can hear the drive making noises

Yep, I get this for all PS1 discs and for any region-breaking or code-loading discs. Further up the comments someone said this is a tv problem - the HDMI converter doesn't upscale the signal, so newer tvs can't process the 240i/p signal.

Your video already helped making me realise where I needed to plug the usb cable! I did not remember/know how important it is. Could you help with an error message I'm getting? The screen displays "Not Optimum Mode Recommended Mode 1920x1080 60Hz" I seem to recall finding, after much searching, that perhaps my monitor was not suitable to be used with a PS2, but any input would be much appreciated! I'd love to be able to play my PS2 in my room.

Main problemis that not all tv's can handle the weird resolution it's outputting from this HDMI dongle.

@@WickedGamerCollector Thank you for your reply! It works perfectly with the TV, I'm trying to make it work with a standalone Samsung monitor I'm normally using with my laptop. I read somewhere that perhaps an adapter is not the right tool for this, that there is some other device that might work, but I could not find out more.

Its not an huge issue but when i reset my console or when the game loads (ps2 logo screen) the signal gets lost but it comes back in like 2 seconds but the sound is still going. I still cant find a solution for it and its really weird. Im using a Techwood LCD TV.

I still have a problem with mine. It boots up without the game with no issues and you can play around in the menu. If you load a disc the playstation logo will come up then it goes to the next scene and it goes blank and of course the tv says no signal. I'm stuck with what to try next. So close but so far away lol.
