  • We made two AWESOME modifications to our 5x8 mesh floor Tractor Supply Utility trailer, and we made one big mistake along the way.
We bought this 5 x 8 utility trailer in 2017 so that we could transport our ATV but now that we are living full time on the off grid homestead and building, we have a lot of other uses for it and these two simple modifications are a BIG help!

Free is good. Motor oil not so much. But now you (and I) know that. Great video. Stay warm.

That trailer turned out freaking awesome my friend. I cringed a bit when I saw you using a plank to hold the trailer up while you crawl underneath. Be safe and use your tractor to lift it up. 😁

I’ve used used motor oil in the past and had good results.
What I’ve done was brushed on straight used motor oil. And it’s worked well. It just needs to be coated every year or so. But the ground contact wood projects look brand new after 7 years And the other negative is that not all the oil soaks in. So some will come off if rubbed. So used motor oil is a terrible idea for something like a bench. Because the oil will come off and stain the clothes.
If you use it on the correct project, you’ll have great results. Like I used it on my trash can corral

Nice job man! I have a question, I got the tractor supply 6x8 trailer with the wood floor. My sides are square tubing not angle iron like yours. If I add 3/4 plywood sides with self tapping screws do you think the the trailer will rust out around those screw holes?

What size boards did you use for the floor?

1”x12”x8’ - but it’s rough cut lumber so it’s true to size. Not what you get in a box store.

I use motor oil and I do not cut with diesel or kerosine. I reapply annually. (Roughly)
