Ordinary people are STRUGGLING in their everyday lives, and they just keep talking about the bigger picture.
To the Just Stop oil protester: Raising your voice, shouting, calling people "deranged", slapping tables, beating around the bush, and being sarcastic do not make you any more convincing. These are usually signs of you losing in an argument, or, in analogy, an animal barking to make itself look more dominant. Even if everything you say is factual and correct, your expression makes me less likely to believe you, as compared to a more toned-down, civilized exchange of facts. In short, this is not a debate or a promotion of your belief in the future, it is straight-down threatening and intimidation.
The earth is like a mobile phone, it's not meant to last forever, it's not designed to last forever
What I want to know is why, in any discussion about our future energy needs is Nuclear power not put forward as a viable replacement for fossil fuels. Or even as a stop gap. The amount of power generated is enormous compared to the wind, solar and water generation.

I was like you maybe 5 years ago, and I used to think I was objectively right based on the “selective snapshots” from science. That was exactly the problem. If we want the best for the society-and for the planet earth, we need to take a closer/careful look. For instance, Toyota has always been environmentally conscious compared to its American and many European counterparts, actively pushing for low-emission technology, including hybrid cars. Yet, it is reluctant to shift to EV (and, instead, they are pursuing different technology w/ liquid hydrogen engines) saying that: (a) EVs are actually more likely to do harm than good to the environment, especially under the current infrastructure, which they back up with data; and (b) heavy reliance on electricity isn’t sustainable when we know power grids in most places have long been on the verge of maxing out already, which I, again, they back up with data. I would thus like to consider both sides of the argument before I stand in the middle of traffic, stopping people from getting to work.

Climate alarmism is unfounded. Piers is right about the food production actually going up. There were news reports that predicted mass famines in the 70s and many more predictions which never came true. Climate is a complex problem and we need more robust climate models. I am not denying climate change, just hoping we can be more science oriented towards it.
