    Great tape breakdown, but I thought one of the most impressive things that Fields did that game was take snaps. Because of Covid, Ohio State was missing three starting lineman including their center, because of that they had a guy who never snapped in a game before play center. Fields manage to handle high snaps, low snaps, and snaps like knuckle balls and still be able to make plays out of them. Definitely one of the more impressive things he did to me...

      And Miller got walked right back into his face on the play JT said he missed the TE corner route. I think that had to affect his vision and ability to step into that throw. You could tell Day schemed more rollouts to help overcome the inexperience on the O Line.

      You see this become an issue a ton in the Indiana game. No excuses for the picks by any means but the IOL play is borderline abysmal most of the day

      kyler - i wanna say this is a great call buddy, thanks for bringing me that nugget. i didn't watch many buckeye games and didn''t know that about the line. one of this guys other videos on fields has kind of a bad snap & he handled it really well & i too kind of look for that sort of thing, but after explaining the line problems it really kind of pumps me up. i'm so conflicted on fields, but i love that insight coming from a guy that prob gets to watch him more than i do. so thanks heaps buddy, i think that was a really under-rated comment. i'm gonna keep my eye on more of your replys...also kinda cool to see both brian weaver & oprah give insights too without being dicks like a lot of other comments.

    • @8barbies779

      hahaha kyler, i started reading comments before i actually started this video, i made the comment & then started the video and...first snap hahaha. also the snap was wide right at about 2:19 on the play that he got drilled. another iffy one at about 6 where he missed the corner but ran it in.
      i say this because i've rarely seen former QBs like simms or romo talk about this...but it's really important. i played QB in highschool (i know not the same but...) we had a very similar thing happen with my line during my senior year and i'm telling you, it really through our timing off. it's hard to explain to people that didn't play - but that split second really compounds things. i've tried to explain the feeling and the only thing close is...have you every been driving pretty fast & maybe leaned over for your phone, took your eyes off road for just a split second and now you're kind of drifting off the road, you catch yourself & get back aligned but for a few seconds your heart is in your stomach & it takes a few seconds to kind of get your groove back? i know this sounds weird but it's the only way i've ever been able to explain it. that split, split second really screws things up. and then in my case (which sounds like justin's case too) what starts to happen is you start not trusting the snap & you start trying to read coverage but you're trying to read while also trying to use your peripheral and you end up not seeing anything. it's really hard to explain. we started doing a bunch of bad snap drills in practice with the new guys, but it just isn't the same when you kinda know it's gonna happen. sorry for the novel but i just thought your point was really poignant, and now that i'm starting to watch video on him i'm starting to really see it a lot, and i've noticed that there are many more times i can now give him the benefit of the doubt on some plays when i thought he wasn't getting through his progressions fast enough on the 2 games i actually watched live while drunk:)))

      I’ve watched lots of these break downs on both of these guys. They’re really similar prospects in a lot of ways.
      I think Wilson is slightly more pro ready and slightly better with the off platform throws and ball accuracy/ball placement. But I don’t think it’d huge gap. Field is obviously faster and he’s bulkier too and will probably be more durable.
      I think teams like the Jets and niners can take their pick of either and will probably be happy. As long as these guys can take the next level step in terms of pre and post snap reads and vision, I think they both have plenty of tools to be really good QBs in the NFL.
      I really don’t see much separation at all in their overall tools. I think it’s just gonna come down to whether you value Fields size and speed advantage, or feel better about his longer resume of production, or whether you like Wilson’s arm shenanigans or feel more comfortable with the fact that he seems to be a little better with his reads and anticipation.
      That might be what puts Wilson over the edge for the Jets as they’re coming off of Darnold who was a disappointment largely because he never transitioned fully to a pro level awareness of the field. So they might hedge towards Wilson for that reason (if they’ve evaluated them in the same way that is).

    The sac, the receiver started looking for the ball inside the 20 and he was running by time he crossed the 15. The time for a receiver to run 5 yards is not much time to decide and trigger a throw. That zone corner that stepped forward to cover a scramble instead of back to cover that receiver probably saw the switch from pass to run through the eyes of Fields, a looking at linemen instead of receivers tell. I think Jackson's current greatness comes from getting DBs to do that switch from covering receiver to covering him, then he switches back to hit receiver that get open like this. If Fields running gets to to the distraction level for DBs and he could use it to become much better than he would be, he also would see teams running predictable defenses that protect against big plays that occur when DBs get distracted underneath, a man/umbrella zone type defense.

    Love the channel JT. I was wondering what you thought about this question: how do you use your eyes to look a safety off while still being able to know if your receiver won on his route in man coverage?

    • @yeahr1ghty
      @yeahr1ghty 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's where anticipation comes in, you have to be confident that your reciever is going to win his route and you have to know where he is going to be while you look off the safety. Once you feel that other reciever is in position (based on the timing of the route), switch your eyes back to him and make a good throw without thinking. Obviously if you see the window doesn't look like you thought it would, you can bring the ball back down or just toss it out of reach.

    Are Ohio St. fans just mad that he has similar arm strength to Alex Smith, but is a Cam Newton runner? He is very capable if things fall apart in the pocket, but he has an average NFL arm, and he is like 225-235. He just hasn't been taught to use his body appropriately, or size sometimes doesn't matter, because there are two players with long range NFL arms and it isn't Fields, Lawrence, or Jones. Lance is the single best arm in this draft and Wilson is the second, but Wilson has so many more platforms to throw off of, he is the second pick this year. I assume the 49ers smoke screen is just that, but perhaps not. They might have bet against themselves, like the Bears did when they took Trubisky. The 49ers gave up unnecessary draft picks.

      No where near as good as Zach Wilson and I like Mac Jones more. Fields has mechanical issues where he does not use his base enough and has been at OSU where the plays are usually for the first read. So that does not show the required reading of the defense for a NFL QB. Does not mean he cannot do it but he has not shown it.

    I hope this comment reaches JT. I came back to this video just as a barometer to see if i could spot some warning signs that would show the downfall of fields in the 2023 season. I saw a little bit(not the cleanest footwork, maybe some vision/getting through reads issues), but to me there’s a jarring difference: the speed and base of his drop. I thought in your most recent vids you were over exaggerating the speed of drop concerns, but its so real. Fields also at osu looks like he has a more natural width to his throwing position instead of being so wide. To me this lands squarely on chicago’s coaching staff. I’d be suprised if our QB coach makes it to january. Super disapointing, because I know fields has the potential to be a top 5 qb and he will never hit it. Thank you JT.
