Just drove one of these for my job and man are they amazing. The way the power comes on full tilt at any rpm is something I've only felt in that car. Definately have to get me one of those first gens.

Few vehicles where as sexy and outrageous as the Viper GTS. That styling has easily stood the test of time. I was one of those kids who grew up a poster of the blue & white GTS on his wall for years. As intimidating as this car supposedly is to drive, I'm sure that only adds to the spectacle of it.
I have a B&W 96 UGR TT GTS and had a more stockish red 97 GTS. They were a little bit of a handful when cars didn't come with 450 hp (especially since they didn't have any nannies), but while the torque was pretty impressive, they weren't nearly as bad to drive as most made them seem... just the idiots that needed the nannies had problems. The TT OTOH, its terrifying, lol!

You have to remember, through most of the 70 to mid 80's, few production cars had over 200 hp. It wasn't until the late 80's that cars started coming out with over that. 400 to 450 hp was pretty insane for the early to mid 90's, and not much made the tq these things made. Most people didn't grow up with power like this, and certainly weren't use to driving without the nannies by the mid 90's. Not surprisingly, many of these cars were driven by race car driver wannabes with more $ than skill, and in the end, lots of folks got bit. BTW, a new GTS hood for one of these cars (when you could still get one) was $15k... costly if you banged one up!

Its amazing how much different that dodge V-10 sounds as compared to the Ford V-10. This Viper almost sounds like a straight 5 Volvo engine. If you hear a Ford V-10 that's been straight piped it sounds almost like a Gallardo, very exotic sounding V-10.
