Hello! :) The distance here is changeable depending on the beach. I went out with a friend this evening onto a beach in a place called Greatstone. The distance from the top end of the beach all the way down to the low was easily a mile. It can be really dangerous, because when the tide comes back in, it can circle you, and before you know it, you're surrounded. A lot of people drown this way!
About a year ago I detected an old sand beach and focused on the strip where there was pebbles and small bark bits. That strip stretched along the entire beach and it ended up being full of silver coins from the 30s :) It was awesome. So yeah, that strategy totally works.
appreciate the time you took to make this video. Some good tips! I've only been detecting since last August but I have something to offer which may or may not hold true for other beaches. Here in South Carolina where I live, there is the beach, the dunes and then the sand walkways on the shoreward side of the dunes just behind the hotels. I've found 8 small earrings since I've been detecting and 7 of them were found on the sand walkways. My thinking is that people are removing their sweatshirts, tee shirts, or other top layers as they head to the beach, and the clothing pulled over their heads pops off an earring. I try to incorporate working those walkways as part of my hunts whenever I can. Thanks for the video!
Hi, A really good tip is to look to see where most of the stones have settled, on a mainly sandy beach. The movement of stones with the action of the sea, usually harbours the heavier objects like coins, jewellery etc. So always detect the stonier areas, you would be surprised at what you find, especially after a storm....sid snot of Torbay.
such a down to earth video and your advice makes so much sense, learning the activity of the beach pools dips dark areas etc, i live in weston super mare somerset, i walk the beach several times a week and often i may find a 2/3 tonne tree stump with roots burried in the sand that wasnt there the day before if the sea can shift that who knows what else it has shifted
Hi,DONT GET CUT OFF BY THE TIDE AS COMES IN FASTER THAN GOES OUT.Always have tide information.Hope this can save a RNLI boat being launched! Great vids and to the point.
as a complete newbie to metel detecting your video how to detec beaches was a great help the wife and I love to get out with our detector when ever we can
Great video, best tips for someone like me who has never beach detected before.heading off to a beach in foster Australia for Easter this weekend so the tips will come in very handy when I try my luck, thanks.
I normally do that, and its a great tip! I only started using that spade since I got the sand scoop. The big spade, and sand scoop is too much to carry!
hi yesterday was my first day beach metal detecting and i found a 1997 TWO PENCE piece here in Toronto ON CAN lake ON. so yea they can travel :) had some fun
The silver item you didn't know about is a locking wheel nut. The odd design on the end is a special keyed receiver, making it near impossible to remove an expensive wheel and/or tire without the matching key.
I thought this was a very good video for beginners. A lot of it confirmed what I already had thought about, but the trick about the dark sand was great. I don't think I would have put that together on my own.
I've been first time beach detecting in the Netherlands this week with my Q20 and here's what I learned: 1. Detecting in the early morning is more peaceful. In my second day some drunk twat tried to rip me off some way or another by telling me I'd need a permission to detect here. He even followed me around for a while. Luckily I checked with the beach administration before even coming here and knew that no permission is needed. Nobody bothered me at 7am. 2. The Q20 seems to have a problem with salt water. Detecting in wet sand makes it bleep randomly. I might edit this for more when I'm home.
Great Vid! I live on the east coast and although dirt digging can be fun at historical locations, nothing beats beach metal detecting imo. Lots of exercise and meet about 10 new curious beach zombies asking me the same questions 🤣
Mixed success for me with mainly fishing weights but I did find a nice WW2 British Army tunic button in one of those ripple gullies. Love these vids Bleeps
Awesome vid mate,I really enjoyed it,I think you covered most bases but my one tip and yes its a boring safety one but ALWAYS know your tides and how they come in,Don't end up getting cut off from the main land,My beach is notorious for it, HH
Hi m8,I realy enjoyed your video, regarded myself as quite an experienced beach detectorist.but its a true saying you learn something new every day,I only ever detect dry sand or wet sand [low tide area]but I took your advice about detecting the high tide mark and to be quite frank have been amazed with the results.obviously I could say anything about what I have found, but the last two visits to my local beach I've had two silver rings one childs silver bracelet and a gold two fingered ring and various decimal and pre decimal.so to say your video has been a wealth of information is an understatement. keep up the videos regards Bobby
Great video, all I need is a beach - live in Rugby, couldn't get much further away from them. Ah well, armed with the useful info from the video I know what to look for now. Probably head for the east coast - slightly closer with rougher conditions. Thanks for putting this together for us, ignore those moaning, they all had to start somewhere.
Hi, Really enjoy watching your detecting exploits. . . My c scope xp4pi was delivered today . . can't wait to start using it! . . . Love your enthusiasm about detecting. I'm totally addicted too! I was born in Folkestone but ended up living here in Telford. I'm off to Barmouth in north Wales this weekend to try out the new c scope. Keep up the good work and happy hunting!! . . Best wishes . . . Martin..
Another brilliant video my friend, wonderful and you covered a lot of things that just simply put don't get mentioned in videos. You may like to add a list of things you need or like to take with you when you are beach detecting.
Love beach hunting and learned a little today. You did well. I had no idea that the distance between the high and low tide line was so great. I noticed that in Florida as well--but I think you have them beat. I hunt Maryland beaches where the tide fluctuation may be 50 feet or so.What is the distance between high and low tides lines there? On Jersey beachs we like to hunt any area that is low-meaning saturated sand. Also areas that contain shells -objects with like weights seem to stay together
Yes, oddly I discovered this, not when detecting but when I used to go looking for sea glass. Look for drifts of tiny stones and you'll discover glass. Similar weights stick together.
Awesome vid mate, interesting and had a good laugh with you. Keep them coming! I'm down in Australia lucky to be near the goldfields, never been beach detecting but will after watching this. Cheers :)
Cracking vid buddy, Ive only just started detecting and i live 10 steps from my local beach so im down there a lot, Ive taken in all your tips from this vid so will get to use your knowledge maybe tonight. I think your very very entertaining and great to watch, im going to check out your other vids and your site now, Thanks for the great upload . Thanks again, lee. ps, where was that beach it looked amazing?.
Very helpful informative video, cool! thank you! Subriscription added 👍 My son and I are planning to take out first trip out detecting on a beach , am I understanding this correctly that no permission is needed to detect unless it's a private beach ?
Great tips. One comment. I think you should detect in the evening right after the people left bathing/swimming. If you wait for the winter, other detectorist will hunt before you. Also more chance of new sand sprayed over it at the end of the summer. Thumbs up! HH&GL. Marc
You are making lots of interesting and informative videos, it makes much better viewing/listening if you put a small piece of foam on your mic to eliminate wind noise. Its so simple to do on any camera or phone. Google or TH-cam is your friend for how to go about it. Looking forward to following this beach detecting guide thank you.
A quick question, Have you got any advice on best beaches to hit around kent? I'm from Dover so would be great If I could get some advice as I would love to expand my knowledge and detect a lot more!
I know this video is a bit old but my tip would be to detect on ether Saturday evening or Sunday morning because at least on my beach it's always packed on Saturdays so get the jump on all of those dropped coins
Off to do my first ever detectoring on a Welsh beach next week, ive just bought a minelab vanquish 340, is this any good for a beginner or have I wasted my money?
Your videos are the best l really enjoy them. It would help me and other XLT users if u post any programs to write the settings down on a bit of paper it would be great mate. But u are the best I'm in Scotland and watch all your vids. Thanks a ton.
I just found your channel. Great video! Subbed! Is that a C-Scope metal detector? I just bought a metal detector for the first time. My Dad used to bring me metal detecting in the 90s and he used a C-Scope. I've never saw anyone use them since.
@@Addictedtobleeps Legend! I went out detecting on the beach yesterday. I need your advice man. You're going to laugh your ass off, it's probably happened to you and I would really appreciate some advice if you have the time. Long story short I got a target, it was raining, sand was soaken wet. The hole ended up being 5 foot in diameter and 2 foot deep. The target was always within 2 inches (pinpointer), it kept sinking downwards like sand in an hourglass. Walls of the hole kept breaking off into the hole, hole was filled with water. Two hours Man, two hours digging that hole. I had to walk away. I covered it up of course. Felt like that moron digging a 12ft hole lol! I have an Excalibur 2 so it wasn't mineralization. Any tips would be appreciated. Cheers.
Not all beaches are sandy - many are rocky. I am new to md but it seems to me that rocky beaches would have their own set of tip as well as sharing some of those you mentioned in this video..
Great video! I find all of your videos really informative! Ive been watching your videos for a good 8 months and always find them fascinating! I recently purchased a Garrett ace 150 and today was my first day on the sand, believe it or not, on the exact beach this video was on! I thought that especially after the storm monday I would have a little bit of luck however that didnt seem to be the case and I only found a 1p and 2p :/ Better luck next time? Anyway keep up the brilliant videos and HH
You had mentioned in an earlier video about needing permission to detect on private property, etc... what about beaches? I live in the US, and am wondering if you would happen to know. I love your videos.
Hi Claudette! I'm guessing that its ok to detect on beaches in the US (apart from the private ones) Over here, you need a crown estate license (completely pointless - no-one has ever been asked to produce it in all the time they are going) which gives you permission to detect on beaches that have no historical monuments etc.
Hello Claudette. I don't know where you are but in the state of South Carolina one does not need permission to metal detect public beaches but the sand dunes or disturbing any vegetation on the beach is a fine and possible jail time so I steer clear of these. On state park beaches it is best to ask for permission and find out if there are any restrictions. So far I have not been denied. In North Carolina along the Outer Banks some areas ban all metal detecting and some beaches are restricted to a certain time of the year. If there is any doubt just check the local laws involving metal detecting. Happy hunting!
I think you should be careful and research the law because I know in many places if there is some reasonable information to use to find the person you have to do that or it could be either a misdemeanor or a felony depending on the value. Sometimes you have to leave it at the police station with your info for some amount of time and if no one comes for it it's yours. At least that's the law in California.
william northcote Stuff the crown, beaches claimed in the name of the PEOPLE. The monarchy can go to hell. I refuse to be a good little sheep like they want us to be.
Thank so much for great tips. Do i need a special detecor or coil, cos i heard that it is a lot of interference cos to the salt and minerals in the water. Would i be able to use my Gold max pro to detect close to the water (if the settings right), cos it gives a lot of false signals now, it works fine on normal soil. Thanks again. Regards from Norway :)
I wouldn't recommend going metal detecting in Virginia Beach, Va. in the U.S. because they buried a bunch of old cars under the sand years ago to help stabilize the beach. I bet one would go off nonstop there.😂 Also, funny story... When our children were little we were on vacation playing in the ocean & a pair of $500 Oakley sunglasses just floated up to my daughter. They were scratched of course but still! No one was even close to us so hard to tell where they came from.
Good video! I detect around Lowestoft beach mainly, it's smaller in comparison to yours :O And full of iron, I "Had" the Cscope CS4PI, and after using it a few times I only ever got handfuls of corroded iron, so I guess a cleaner beach is nicer for that machine.
Other than little tiny bit of a suggestion. Fantastic, in keeping with my previous lovely comment on your other post. Do you think that your lovely fair completion may need sunblock on these harsh excursions?
6/4/2014 Orange beach, Alabama USA. Whites metal detector. Went out there optimistic, found 18 bottle caps, very rusted nail, pieces of alum foil and a tent stake. No flat round metalic discs. Oh well, had fun anyway.
+x2malandy For all that you didn't find any minted discs or loops of bling...every piece of trash found and removed, means there is one less risk of injury on the beach...! Keep up the good work...!!
Hoping to do a beach or two in March. This vid extremely useful. Thanks. I suspect you don't hand in EVERYTHING you find to the police e.g. 2p coins. Do you have a philosophy on what you report?
No, Peter. Google 'Crown estate license' and apply online (they are free and get sent to your e-mail) voila! There are 'some' beaches that are scheduled, but it tells you on the site, and they are quite rare :)
Addictedtobleeps Unless you go to Cornwall where that shit prince charlie and his dutchy own most of the coastline and detecting is not allowed. Apparently he's thinking of issuing licences at £60 per year. As if he doesn't get enough of our money!
+Addictedtobleeps Would that cover all Crown Estate land that is publically accessible...? The only reason I ask is that I live in an area which is within the confines of Windsor Forest...!

I have a tip. I added a magnet to the end of my handle of my sand scoop. That way I don't have to bend over to pick up bottle caps or nails.
I get your point! However, I’m in my fifties and any exercises to keep the beer belly at bay I tend to keep

The silver item you didn't know about is a locking wheel nut. The odd design on the end is a special keyed receiver, making it near impossible to remove an expensive wheel and/or tire without the matching key.

Wayne you could describe the idea of finding better things near the low tide is quality over quantity and quantity being near the high tide

can you keep what find over there in the UK? I know if you find something here in the US Its yours even if its Ben Franklin's Eye glasses.
stealing by finding .
I have a feeling the IRS would make such a find extremely uncomfortable if you tried to hold onto it.

Briefly, yes: www.bleeps.me/get-a-free-license-to-detect-on-beaches/
It seems the crown is doing a consultation and permits are not being done as of yet. Wonder what is going on.
william northcote Stuff the crown, beaches claimed in the name of the PEOPLE. The monarchy can go to hell. I refuse to be a good little sheep like they want us to be.
Great info. on beginners for farm detecting , thanks .
very good thankyou what is a good all round metal detector to get please only just starting please

No one was even close to us so hard to tell where they came from.
where I live we only have white sugar sand I use the same methods but only use a sand scoop lot less bending
Good video! I detect around Lowestoft beach mainly, it's smaller in comparison to yours :O And full of iron, I "Had" the Cscope CS4PI, and after using it a few times I only ever got handfuls of corroded iron, so I guess a cleaner beach is nicer for that machine.
Great video, mate! Thanks a million! Cheers!
Ah yea, good point Alan. AND a mobile phone. I should have mentioned that.
Other than little tiny bit of a suggestion. Fantastic, in keeping with my previous lovely comment on your other post. Do you think that your lovely fair completion may need sunblock on these harsh excursions?
A hat normally does the job :)

lol you are a good sport mate! :) well done, thanks for your videos dude they are awesome and I enjoy watching your awesome videos.
Keep up the good work...!!
tangomoggy Will do.
Help.. should i get fisher f4 or minelab xterra 305??
Thank you, great info, im still new at this
Great hunting to youall
Brilliant... Where are you based in the South East?
Watched a few of your vids, n I've subbed bud! Very informative nice 1
Hoping to do a beach or two in March. This vid extremely useful. Thanks. I suspect you don't hand in EVERYTHING you find to the police e.g. 2p coins. Do you have a philosophy on what you report?
Great video! Thanks for sharing your well done research.
Great personality mate. Enjoy your manner.
Love watching your videos :) do you happen to be from Folkestone? i recognise a lot of the places in your videos
Dan Roberts Hiya, Dan! I am indeed. Here you go: th-cam.com/video/e0yT_KbXeQU/w-d-xo.html
Finding loads of bullets from 1942 and fishing weights, Someone said check round the area when your finding them could be rings buddy 😁
Nice tips sir, good video indeed. Cheers and HH from Italy!
brilliant video , ive only just taken up this great hobby . Do you need permission to detect on beachs ?
No, Peter. Google 'Crown estate license' and apply online (they are free and get sent to your e-mail) voila! There are 'some' beaches that are scheduled, but it tells you on the site, and they are quite rare :)
Addictedtobleeps thank you so much for your help
Addictedtobleeps Unless you go to Cornwall where that shit prince charlie and his dutchy own most of the coastline and detecting is not allowed. Apparently he's thinking of issuing licences at £60 per year. As if he doesn't get enough of our money!
Grrrr!
+Addictedtobleeps Would that cover all Crown Estate land that is publically accessible...? The only reason I ask is that I live in an area which is within the confines of Windsor Forest...!
Excellent, cheers Marc!
