    Obviously someone loved ❤️ their Ash tree very much to have paid an Arborist all those years ago to bolt and cable the crotch from continuing split! I am sure they are still upset just seeing a huge stump where their beautiful tree use to be.😪😪
    I had a rounded 14' dump trailer of tree service wood dropped off last Sunday. I processed this week and 1/3 of the wood is in a cookie bin. All the work and mess to just basically give it away as boiler chunks. I know everybody gets all excited about thoughts of "free" wood being dropped at their woodyard but your thoughts will soon change after dealing with it!👍

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, you have to be very specific about what you will accept in the "dump zone"! You have to reject some once in a while to keep them honest!

    Ah yes metal in logs😆I used to work in a mill near mosgiel in Otago, New Zealand and a friend of mine at the mill transferred to dimension sawing. First day they got a log that had a very long waratah, that's a steel fence post, that the tree had grown right around and he blew the teeth off every single dimension blade. Fireworks. Stopped the entire mill! It totally freaked him out so He quit dimension sawing the same day and went back to his old machine. He was spooked for a week after it. I'll never forget it 😳 glad you just dulled a few teeth and didn't put on a fireworks display with your new chain 😆

    Great watch as always Chris.. Quick question if i may, Looking to buy my first splitter and wondered should i look at a Kinetic splitter, electric or petrol "normal " single wedge splitters ? All 3 are around 8 ton force and similar prices. Only splitting around 3-4 cords but all done in short time frame and mostly crotchy old Oak. Thanks, any advice appreciated.

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For nasty crotchy wood I would want a hydraulic splitter for sure. Single wedge.

    Milwaukee and dewalt have some really nice battery tripod lights that work great. They chew the batteries so you have to have a couple but it makes it nice to work long splitting wood in the fall,winter and spring.

    Hello from Port Washington WI. I really enjoy watching your videos. I can see where you would like a much bigger push plate. That company does make them for other models. I wonder if one could be retrofitted on your splitter. I love the crunching noise the wood makes as its being ripped apart. Especially the ugly stuff. Praying you keep all your fingers and toes. Susie from Port Washington WI.

    Don’t take this the wrong way
    But from a saw builder aspect. Please keep the high revving on small wood to a minimum (throttle pinned like this whole video). We call it “piss revving” hahah
    YOU will grenade that topend. More so have premature wear on the piston skirts and excess heat on every single bearing in the saw
    Maybe 1/2 throttle on the small stuff
    That’s a VERY large piston to be kept moving at 14,000 plus rpm

    I took down 6 trees earlier bunch more that should probably come down but these were all in the yard most the rest are out in the woods. Couple dead beech, ash, and maple. Couple of them were monsters. The one huge maple though not sure how much good wood will come out of it. The top blew down a while back. Was hung up in a cherry for 2 years and finally came down almost on top of my dog last year. Really been wanting rid of it but I was scared to cut it lol. I had some Amish here putting roofs on my sheds and the one young guy was brave he didn't care lol. It did land on the swing set but oh well. Gave it a good dent but didn't crush it. Damn maple broke into 3 pieces hitting the swing set and just dented the swing lol. Its probably about 30 inch diameter but something had been eating at it and the woodpeckers pounded holes in it everywhere going after whatever bugs were in there. He found a bunch of trees he wants sounds like he wants to give me a few grand to cut out some of the ash and the single pine I have. I figured ash wasn't good for anything but firewood but he wants to run it through his saw mill

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ash is great lumber! Good for you to sell it!

    • @JesseLJohnson
      @JesseLJohnson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@InTheWoodyard I didn't know it could really be used for much with the ash borer. I know there at least used to be a quarantine on the wood here. I guess it has spread pretty much everywhere now though so maybe it doesn't make any difference. I do know a few years ago though you were supposed to even leave the county with ash firewood. I guess if they are gonna mill it the wood would more then likely go in a kiln and that should kill any bugs

    If you use a basis of 720 pieces of wood per full cord of firewood.
    Then it’s a 240 pieces per face cord (1/3 cord).42.6 sqft. / 3.95 sq meter.
