  • Boy this was a lot of work! I definitely will have an addendum, I forgot to even mention Kaneko's OTHER novel collab and I want to find more details about the games he worked on that I didn't talk about in much detail.

    Kazuma needs to go back to doing art designs for videogames. His demon designs are so clutch.

    I first played Persona 4 and stayed for the mythology when playing SMT IV and gathered all the PS2 for PS3 Atlus games. He and the overall idea of Megami Tensei has influenced me as an author, and I had begun developing a character called Count Kaneko in tribute to him as Hell’s Beastarian and Archivist in tribute to his work as the head art designer of many MegaTen games and his knowledge of mythology and pop culture.

    After watching your recent Kaneko video, this was so nice to see right after!! I never knew that the reason Kaneko has all those crazy pictures of him posing were for references in his art, and honestly, that is really cool and smart. Your channel has shown me so many secrets I never knew about in Megami Tensei. Keep up the great work~!!

  • @sigurdtheblue

    I didn't know Kamen Rider was a manga. Also worth noting that manga is really cheap in Japan so his book collection is not nearly as impressive as it would be in America. Another cool thing is that when I looked up Saturday Night Fever, it's the same pose that is on the cover of Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
    ..... So is Kaneko not going to be prominent in Shin Megami Tensei V most likely? It would be nice if they played an important role.

    I really love kaneko art, so simple yet very effective. His art is why I'm not a fan of the smt iv's demon designs.

    • @sigurdtheblue

      I don't think his art is very simple as a lot of designs he made were really odd or complex visually, although at least the motivation behind the designs is simple.

    I really appreciate all the work you put into researching stuff, this is a great video. Being an artist I also relate with some of the things he said, like, not liking to be watched or making the same expression as your character.
    Also, if you don't mind a bit of criticism, maybe you could add a few more images to illustrate certain points. Like his Lucifer design mentioned early, or an example of a "naked" design. I think that would make these videos more accessible for people who aren't already very into Megaten.

    • @Larrue
      @Larrue  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest I fell really behind on the production of this vid so it ended up being bare minimum in terms of edits, a lot of personal life stuff happened that slowed it down. If this weren't a video planned for his b day I would have just waited til next weekend and spent more time reading to beef up and fill in the gaps.

    I recently realize that its pretty common for these artists to be credited with different names when working in different projects. But like, not a flashy pen name, they usually just choose another random japanese name like if they were hiding from police or something lol
    But maybe japanese people get it.

    That Persona section really says alot about how numbskull the mainline Megami Tensei fans can be about how Atlus does things. It doesn't matter if Persona is more popular than mainline if being targeted towards a wider audience was the intention since P3.
