Heavy Metal isn't young. Listen to Oh Fortuna, or any number of intense classical pieces. Those genius composers only had one big problem. No electricity, no distortion, and no electric guitar. I am a metal guitarist, and one of the first songs I played was a cover of The Imperial March. Not centuries old , the POINT is this, Metal is an expansion of and composed very much like classical music. I have never heard of a rapper with a symphony orchestra behind them, nor Darth Brooks. However Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, and countless other metal songs have a consistent relationship with a live symphony. Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult Armageddon album comes with two cds, One is the band with all the songs on the album. The second is the symphony playing the songs and only the symphony. So from Mozart , Beethoven to this day, is it such bullshit to say its not going to die. Evolve, YES of course it will, but die,? Don't hold your breath.

Judas Priest is a band that has left its mark on metal music in an indelible way. Out in the cold and even this song are enough to explain what I mean...
I think this song captures certain spiritual realities very well. The way evil is depicted as enticing yet simultaneously dangerous; the way we inevitably want just a taste to satiate our morbid curiosities; the way the guitar tones communicate a melancholy atmosphere, almost as if to show the sadness of addiction and the lie that if you succumb to your vice just one more time, even just for a bit, you can silence the temptation. Masterfully done, and one of my favorite Priest songs for that reason. I enjoy heavier metal and certain bands that have a metaphysical bend towards these topics, but I think they get hung up on evil as being this repulsive, crushing force, which while it can be, our own sins and vices rarely present themselves in such a way. Rather, they’re usually appealing and seemingly irresistible.

First time I heard this album, it just about blew my head apart! I was so happy to hear this incarnation of Priest. I've always loved classic Priest, but I feel this was a natural direction they took, largely enabled by incredible drummer Scott Travis.
It is 2017 and I discovered this album just a month ago. I must have been living in a cave or something. being primarly a progressive rock fan, I have listened and enjoyed Judas priest's first albums upto screaming for vengeance. But painkiller is something else. I am glad that I discovered this album.
There's lot of prog in JP:s catalogue. They've done many long epic songs, with changes in mood and rythm. Even a blitz song like The Sentinel is complex, with a story line and many different segments. They have always had this fleeting relation to prog. Other examples: Beyond the realms of death, Bloodred skies, Saints in hell.... Even after 39 years, I still find new layers in their music.

Heavy Metal isn't young. Listen to Oh Fortuna, or any number of intense classical pieces. Those genius composers only had one big problem. No electricity, no distortion, and no electric guitar. I am a metal guitarist, and one of the first songs I played was a cover of The Imperial March. Not centuries old , the POINT is this, Metal is an expansion of and composed very much like classical music. I have never heard of a rapper with a symphony orchestra behind them, nor Darth Brooks. However Dimmu Borgir, Metallica, and countless other metal songs have a consistent relationship with a live symphony. Dimmu Borgir's Death Cult Armageddon album comes with two cds, One is the band with all the songs on the album. The second is the symphony playing the songs and only the symphony. So from Mozart , Beethoven to this day, is it such bullshit to say its not going to die. Evolve, YES of course it will, but die,? Don't hold your breath.

Judas Priest is a band that has left its mark on metal music in an indelible way. Out in the cold and even this song are enough to explain what I mean...

I think this song captures certain spiritual realities very well. The way evil is depicted as enticing yet simultaneously dangerous; the way we inevitably want just a taste to satiate our morbid curiosities; the way the guitar tones communicate a melancholy atmosphere, almost as if to show the sadness of addiction and the lie that if you succumb to your vice just one more time, even just for a bit, you can silence the temptation. Masterfully done, and one of my favorite Priest songs for that reason. I enjoy heavier metal and certain bands that have a metaphysical bend towards these topics, but I think they get hung up on evil as being this repulsive, crushing force, which while it can be, our own sins and vices rarely present themselves in such a way. Rather, they’re usually appealing and seemingly irresistible.

First time I heard this album, it just about blew my head apart! I was so happy to hear this incarnation of Priest. I've always loved classic Priest, but I feel this was a natural direction they took, largely enabled by incredible drummer Scott Travis.

It is 2017 and I discovered this album just a month ago. I must have been living in a cave or something. being primarly a progressive rock fan, I have listened and enjoyed Judas priest's first albums upto screaming for vengeance. But painkiller is something else. I am glad that I discovered this album.

There's lot of prog in JP:s catalogue.
They've done many long epic songs, with changes in mood and rythm.
Even a blitz song like The Sentinel is complex, with a story line and many different segments.
They have always had this fleeting relation to prog. Other examples: Beyond the realms of death, Bloodred skies, Saints in hell....
Even after 39 years, I still find new layers in their music.
One of the best fucking guitar solos of all time.
That can be said about any Glenn Tipton's solo.
