For me, the good thing about it doesn’t fatigue my eyes due to medium brightness.. people overthink that brightness is the most crucial thing in TV… that is not true for me anymore!!
By the way, I am an owner for LG c1
Does the PlayStation 5 image go down much in game mode?
The new sweet spot is now the Sony A75L, $400 cheaper than A80L. Picture is the exact same quality
I have the A80J, same series. After calibration, this Tv is reference quality. to me, it's the best value OLED on the market. I have luminance set to medium and it's plenty bright to me. yes, there are brighter TVs, but brighter doesn't mean better. I plan to upgrade on the A80M or N series. (where ever they actually give me a reason)
Sony will never be the best value Oled when you have LG.
@@Exclawit's literally an LG OLED panel
I just bought and a80j and love it but a80L just went on sale for same price... would you return a80j for the a80L?
@@markman090yes
@@markman090Yes, newer faster better processor.
At its original price, not very competitive. But it came down to CAD$2,999 in Canada for 77 inch a few weeks ago, that’s truly the sweet spot. Pulled the trigger. Very happy.
Where did you get it from? I am only seeing it for 3799 at that size and it says sale would love to get it for 3k . Thanks!
@@moose9173 It was a Costco 2-day event in late September. 65 inch $1,999; 77 inch $2,999 and 83 inch $4,999. Most major retailers matched the price during that event. It was a pretty hot deal.
I’m getting 83” and it’s $3,999 right now. It’s instant value and better than the 83” G3
I have the same question. Where are you getting the 77” for $2999? Was it an open box?
@@XxItzkenExXwhere did you get an 83” for $3,999? Again, was this an open box sale?
At this point, between MLA and QD oled, i feel like the 80L should be priced way more competitively
Well it is now. At least for this weekend in Canada
Where I live, the A80L and S95C are priced THE SAME.
The A80l is basically an LG B2, with Sony processing. They literally share the same (old) panels. The LG C2/3 have the newer Evo panels which are brighter and more resistant to burn in.
@@DeesBees85 do you like LG C series better than A80 series?
@@DeesBees85 a80L has the evo panel huh
Hi Jon, are the settings shared in the description for SDR, HDR or Dolby Vision? Could you share your settings for each? I just got this TV and would love to bring out the best of it, thanks.
Did you find this out ? I’ve been looking for good settings but can’t get anyone to answer lol. This is my first oled and I’m confused. Do I need to adjust every mode? I’ve had it for a week now and haven’t touched anything because I don’t want to screw it up. I’ve noticed when I turn on my Apple TV 4K. Everything looks totally different, so I don’t know.
How do you like it so far
Just picked this tv up for 1500. This will last the family for years
I have an A80J and find it to be an excellent TV overall, but I do have one knock on it that I think still applies to the newer models. I don’t like the more matte like finish on the screen. It tends to have a bluish diffused reflection from windows, and decreases the black levels in daylight. I previously had an LG OLED and I think their screen coating retains black levels much better in daylight room situation. I noticed the same thing when I see both sets at stores. The LG’s have much darker black in a brightly lit room.
Was the A8h the last one with the glossy screen? I picked the LG C1 over the A80J because of the screen coating.
@@redpil1le____461Was comparing A80L with G3 side by side today, hands down A80L in standart mode blown away G3 in everything except low fps sharpnes.
@@rms_6401 Not surprised. Everytime I look at the Sony's they seem better to me than the LG's. What swayed me to the LG is that all of their screens are glossy and at the time you had to jump to a 77" A8H for the glossy screen. I didn't have the room for it.
I like my C1, but I still kick myself for missing out on the A8H.
@@rms_6401 Hyperbole much? They are not that much different, at all.
I personally think the matte screen is better
I got my eye on the Sony A95L in a 55 inch…I’m just waiting for it to be in stores
Is it as good as the S95C?
@@hastensavoir7782 ..yes but better…
It is not a sweet spot, you can buy a QDOLED for much cheaper.
S90C FTW - this has fallen behind
I have A80J for two years now. It comes to full life when watching in low lightings. Best tv for me
Hai sir
I am confusing
Sony A80l OLED 65inch or Samsung S90C QD OLED 65inch which is the best tv please tell me
Is this better than A90j!
Hi There...In Sony X90L About Section and Model name it's written as VH22 Instead of the real name ...Is That a Problem or its normal??
So , why not buy the similarly priced lg c3 or the cheaper b36 ...just saying
You can still get a brighter QD OLED cheaper than this tv with the Samsung s90c.
just bought it.. returning it tomorrow - might be good if you only watch tv during the day but the UI is so bad
@@zarethd you can literally change the UI with a streaming box…
@@trayvonlittle9326 why the would I pay for a new tv with all the modern features available and then do that? When there are TV's available that do what you want them to do out of the box

Awesome new setup!
Appreciate the content, very transparent and clear.

77 inch version is 50% more expensive than LG C3 or the cheapest Samsung QD-OLED
great review, for sure thinking of getting one now. Always had Sony myself, this would be a massive upgrade for me though.
👍
You are so rich and so handsome, do you have a free Sony A95L 77" for a loyal fan who is not rich and handsome like you are... you are so blessed....
What I truly want is a 32"-43" 4k OLED tv.
Like the C2/C3? 42” models there.
42” A90K Sony
As you said, it looks like a good TV and sweet spot, but I have a question. As I understand correctly, this TV is a midrange OLED TV, so what would you recommend? If last year's same-size flagship OLED from any company is the same price as the Sony A80L, which one to buy?
Sony a80k, s95b, s95c, c2, and c3 are the best choices.
@@SnowmanisChapin I was going to buy a 42 inch LG C2 to use as a PC gaming monitor, but they seem to just now be out of stock pretty much everywhere I have checked.
@@ryanb7186 its an older model so it may be hard to find. If LG is what you're going for then c3 may be the best option in terms of finding the right size for you.
I’d take the s95b if you’re looking at last gen. The a95k is more expensive then current gen oleds. If you want midrange id personally grab the s90c qdoled. It’s brighter and has better color volume than the c3 and especially the a80l.
First!
it’s a nice TV, but why would anyone pick this when the s90c and the c3 are on the market? it’s the dimmest out of the 3 and the response time for games is not that great either
Sweet spot I think is LG
Costco has the sony A80CL. Is that basically the same? Also is th 55 and 65 inch versions worth it. Highly considering buying mine there.
It is the same TV
Same here. Looking at the 65 inch
With a five year extended warranty, and a backlit remote included currently, 77 is 2700.00 🎉
I’ve had my a80l since launch and it’s been awesome BUT. Now that I have a ps5 my mind has completely changed on this tv especially if you use a avr hooked up to this tv and care about having Dolby vision . Apparently if you run your ps5 though your avr to a Sony tv you can not have allm and vrr on and get Dolby vision at the same time which I find a complete fail on Sonys part the only way I could remedy the situation was to hook up the ps5 directly to my tv which is dumb as I got my avr to run everything through that . I’m sooo mad 😡
Yeah Sonys biggest flaw for me personally is not giving 4 2.1 ports it seems. Considering the cost of these sets, it really makes no sense why they can't or won't do that
Does the PlayStation 5 image go down much in game mode?
@@olivermontes4321 only brightness
Deciding between this and the X93L... Great review though
Massive sale this weekend in my country for a80L
Nice video Jon!
I have just bought one , its a great set. Setting it up is a chore have your email, Google passwords on hand. Where can I find a test report where I can set up my inial settings from?
I’d rather watch a version from someone who had to buy the tv. You can say they gave it to you and are not paying you but I’m sure these sets are sold after

I love mine but mad I bought it at full regular price now it’s over 400 dollars less than when I bought it
This tv is incredible!
Had a previous Sony OLED, and after 2 years (and of course end of warrantee) we experienced severe burn in with a permanent image retention that could not be fixed without replacing the complete panel. I would not purchase another OLED for that reason.
Do you mind sharing what model was it? A80j? A8h or older
@@HasNiHassaan It was a 55" Sony A8G OLED purchased from Best Buy in 2019. And thanks for your videos
Always buy Sony
Sony is da man
So which is best Sony A80L or LG C3? Looking at both and going to use as home theater paired with Appletv 4k and sonos atmos speakers.
I was deciding between the two and went with the A80L! My understanding is the LG only has the edge for serious gamers. A80L is better for movies, streaming, etc.
@liammckane1724 I did the same A80L and am super happy with it so far.
Get a Samsung s90c it’s a qd-oled which is better than a w oled like the a80l and the c3
@@dannyumana143Does the PlayStation 5 image go down much in game mode?
beautiful tv but im not spending 1500 plus on it
@brooklynbeaver9063fr 🤣🤣
Why are you bragging about being poor?
It's not always about that. Some folks put certain value on things. I know some rich folks who drive Hondas or buy a used car and fix it and shop thrift. It's what you value and believe that is worth a premium. @@DoctorJammer
I found one for $1,000, is that a good price?
Gotten cheaper? My sony A8H was wayyy cheaper than this. The underlying panel on mine is effectively the same and it's 3 gens ago. Main changes are inputs and processing, and now a somewhat matte finish instead of gloss (which is a downgrade). Even considering inflation, price should have at least remained flat for their 8 series oled given the tech hasn't really advanced.
Well no because of the global economy and exchange rates + the lower sales or OLEDs driving panel prices up. A8H isn't anywhere near as good as the A80L. Trust me the processor makes a BIG difference.
Sony’s OLED tv’s range all come with only two HDMI 2.1 is not acceptable when competitors have all ports come with HDMI 2.1..
You don't even need that may 2.1 ports
The s90c from Samsung is the same price and significantly better.
Not really. Do research
I bought the S90C 2 weeks ago, and will most likely be returning it. The picture quality in 4K HDR is stunning, but on lower resolution regular TV watching the processing is horrible. My five-year-old LG C8 Oled this is replacing was way better. Samsungs processing isn’t in the same league as LG or Sony in my opinion.
@@abacar6134 settings..... A "quantumtv" (he has a TH-cam channel) picture calibration for sdr is totally needed out of the box.
That OLED didn't look that bright to me. Sorry
Youre slow..
Guys, A80L or LG G3 ?
Both 77” the G3 is 500€ more
Which did you go with? G3 in every size under 83 has MLA panel
G3. Got a crazy black friday deal, G3 77 for 2200€ 😅
How happy are you with it?
I totally disagree with this. This TV is barely an improvement over the A80J from 2 generations ago. W-OLED has barely gotten better since then (the brightness of this TV is the same as the A80J that some folks said wasn't bright enough).
If you want a "sweet spot" W-OLED, get a TV from 1-2 generations ago and save even more money. Or just jump to a QD-OLED. Getting a W-OLED from this generation is most certainly not a good choice. There's a reason no one is talking about the LG C3 either.
Extremely False: This and the C3 are a very good choice. Oh and last I checked being the second best tv in the yearly line up I still consider a premium. They aren’t MLA or QD-OLED. But are MLA and QD worth the extra 600 to a grand, I don’t think so at all. And yes the S90C is same price but being a reformatted S95B with Samsungs finnicky OS, spotty Software updates and reliability questions doesn’t mean that’s worth the same price. OLED is the sweet spot for the OLED and above category. Kind of like Full Array LED is the sweet spot for an LED tv. The X93L isn’t 6-700 better then an X90. It’s the same with the A95 and G3 in comparison to the A80 and C3.
@@zr1cvette What are you talking about? Are you suggesting a C3 is worth hundreds more than a C2 or an A80L is worth hundreds more than a A80K? Because my point was that they aren't. In some cases, the difference is $400 for the 65”. There’s been virtually no improvement other than minor image processing improvements. You can barely get a trained eye to spot the difference in side by side comparisons. And Full Array LED isn’t the sweet spot. It’s MiniLED. The only relevant FALD is the Sony X90 series, which was terrible the last few years, though they improved this year considerably.
There is barely a price difference b/w a QD-OLED and the A80L, like you stated. The A80L is the same price as the S90C at 65”. And there is a noticeable improvement for QD-OLED with the right content. RTINGs and other review outlets basically made clear the S90C is MUCH better than the W-OLEDs. Sure Samsung has some issues but get a set-top box like an Apple TV and at least half of those issues go away.
@@mohamedahmed1023I cancelled my order for the a80k and s95b. Found a good deal for a 65 inch S92C for $1460 usd / $2000 cad 👌
And the X90 series as always been a good upper mid ranger. I wouldn’t buy a Mini LED for 1899 over 1199 for full array at 65. At that price point go OLED over Mini.
@@zr1cvette I agree with that.
Great and helpful review, thanks.
